TopicWhats a crappy job that you quit?

Ive quit many crappy jobs

Call center for a big national bank during the 2009 recession. People screaming at me over their overdraft fees or begging me to stop their checks when it was too late. Some thought I was at a physical location and would scream at me to go get their check from the atm. Quit after two months

Sales engineer job that was really customer service and they knew it. Had me just taking orders and following up on shipping constantly. The dudes were super nice but very chatty with me it was a drain. Quit after 3 months.

Another sales engineer job but it was obvious they werent going to do well financially and they started laying off their outside sales people. I knew I wasnt going to make the minimum required to make commission. Also my boss was kind of crazy. I loved her on a personal level we got along, but she was type A and micro managing. Quit after 3 months.

The worst was one was support for engineers in the field. Male engineers would laugh at getting a woman on the phone, argue that my solution was incorrect, call back and get a male on the line who would tell them the exact same thing and they would get praised. I had no formal training unlike every other on my team (who was male) who were flown out for 2 weeks hands on training with our products. Despite that, my numbers for cases closed and customer satisfaction were the best but management brushed that off as my empathy and not technical ability. Then I got a sexist manager who targeted me and made my life hell. I quit on the spot one day, over a year into it.

Oh and then there was the one where the engineers (male again) knew I was on a TN visa and used that to make me do bitch work and laugh about it. I know this because another engineer came to me to watch out because he overheard them talking about taking advantage of my status because I couldnt say anything back or risk leaving the country. That was fun too

Dont cook them together. They cook differently. But cooking one after the other in the same pan is fine. I would do a quick wipe though because you dont want any oil you used to burn and effect the flavor.

Crawling and climbing over everything. Not walking yet but she cruises along furniture and walls easily. I have to be around her at all times because she can hurt herself if unsupervised. Its very early for her to be this mobile at 8 months. I cant even change her diaper without help because she flips over and tries to crawl over the changing table and fights every second of it lol. By the end of the day, Im so physically and mentally drained I cant focus on anything and just go to bed. Rinse and repeat. I have a safe playpen area for her but she hates being in it too long so I give her time to explore the house and just follow her around.

Now back at work but its hard to be on all day and then go right back to baby duties with no break ever. I hope it gets better!

On my end, my girl is sick with her first cold. Her nanny came in last week on Monday and I could hear her coughing and sneezing, so I sent her home and test for Covid. Test came back negative and it was a cold. We had her stay home for the week anyway in case. By Thursday, my daughter started to have a cough and runny nose. Now its just thick mucus and she has a hard time eating and sleeping. I got the nose frida to suck out mucus and have been giving her warm baths to help.

Im beyond exhausted since its been several days of a cranky, uncomfortable baby. And pissed at the nanny for coming in when she was sick, especially with Omicron running rampant. Now Im started to get a scratchy throat and fatigue, but home test also says negative for Covid so at least its just a cold.

Cutting dairy is a good idea. Ours used to burp fine but when we kept at it a few more minutes and more would come up so there may just be more gas than you think. Try the probiotics though. Another thing we used is gripe water for really bad episodes. I used to give her some and then shed burp and fart nonstop.

Im sorry, this period sucks. The first 3 months are the absolute hardest. Its known as the fourth trimester. Just hang in there and it will get better.

My baby had reflux too. 5 weeks is when it started to get bad and then it peaked around 8. Got better around 12

For us we had to burp her a very long time before shed let out these massive burps. My husband was a pro at it. Then we kept her upright about 30 minutes.

Also probiotics if you havent tried those yet.

Is your baby breastfed or formula? Ours is formula fed and we switched to the Dr Browns anti colic bottles. Those seemed to help. Just had to make sure to use the newborn nipple sizes because the ones they came with were too fast for her.

And yes America is truly barbaric with parental leave. And then expect you to go back to work and perform the same as everyone else when you are lucky if you string 2-3 hours of sleep a night.

They cut out anyone who ever leaves from their life, regardless of if theyre family. We dated long distance for a year and a half with him making plans to leave the cult and move to be with me. Awesome to have goals for yourself like that. It helps to build a spreadsheet to track your spending and saving. I always do one each year and put everything on there as for monthly spending and what we should be saving. Make a list for yourself as to what your overall goals are then break them down into smaller goals to attain for yourself and what timeframe you want to achieve them by.

You really just need to look up how many calories you need to consume to maintain your weight with your current activity level. There are a few calculators to help you figure it out. Then you need to deduct 500 calories a day to lose a pound a week. Beyond that is too extreme imo. With my height and being very sedentary right now, 1500 is about what I need to maintain, so 1200 is very reasonable. Ive been consuming maybe 2000 the last few months and steadily gaining weight so its hard now to reduce so much. Consuming below 1200 isnt recommended so thats what Im sticking to. I plan to incorporate exercise starting this week though.

Achievable but very unfulfilling because your food options shrink drastically and it'll be boring maintaining that sort of diet for more than a day if you enjoy variety.
You can eat really tasty things but you just need to be mindful of how much youre eating.

Heres an example of my lunch the other day. Around 350 calories. Ground turkey made with soy sauce and hoisin, topped with sriracha and furikake. Side of steamed rice and broccoli
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/9/3/AAdXATAACwzh.jpg

Another thing I made is BBQ pulled chicken that I eat in a half a pita with a side of veggies. This week Ill be making chipotle chicken salad and spaghetti squash bolognese. For breakfast Ill either have some yogurt, granola and berries, or egg white omelette with oatmeal. Ill snack on walnuts since they have healthy fats and are filling, Ill sprinkle some cinnamon on them for flavor. I leave room for a few squares of my favorite chocolate every night. Its a lot of effort and I have the luxury of wfh so I can take the time to meal prep.

Ive been trying a 1200 calorie diet for the last week and its extremely difficult. And Im a 52 woman. I limit each meal to about 300-400 calories and try to keep some for snacks. I come up with tasty food so its not miserable and bland. But its still very difficult. I cheated the last couple of days for New Years but Im back on it today. I dont know t bones exactly but general steak advice is to make sure the pan is very hot before you put the steak down. Get a good sear on each side, about 2 minutes each. Then I usually lower the heat and toss a bunch of butter and baste until medium rare. You can use a meat thermometer if you have one but I usually go by touch. When you press down you should feel a bit of a bounce. Similar to pressing the inside of your palm. If you push down and its too soft, its still too rare and if theres no bounce then its over cooked.

Appeal to authority fallacy. Either use words to persuade, or dont bother. You surely have to be aware someone being experienced does not make them correct.

I think its your approach.

Like, youre just saying My husband is in tech and I know what Im talking about ad nauseam.

Youre not even replying to what peoples point is.

People itt are saying if making deliveries temporary once a month is too beneath you, youre being entitled or overly difficult.

Your stance, correct me if Im wrong, is that employees can easily find positions with better pay without the extraneous driving, and that DD is trying to get free labor.

I dont see how your stance contradicts the point posters itt are saying.

You just come off as a bougie douchebag when you keep spouting about your experience and knowledge blah blah. Even if youre correct, people are gonna speak against you out of spite.

I think this is the correct take:
I only mentioned my husband working in tech once as an example to someone who quit a job over making him return to the office once a week. He found a full remote job easily. I have cited that this is my job many times though. Ive been a recruiter for a number of years and Im very familiar with the Bay Area market.

Yes they will lose people. No one is arguing that. Ive only explained the context of the Bay Area being very expensive and $400k not being outside the norm. Ive also corrected people who assume their software engineers are easily replaceable talent. They are not. Ive also countered the claim that they were fine doing it before with the fact that the pandemic has changed the market in favor of employees. All of these points are based out of conversations Ive had with software engineers every day as well as the knowledge of how difficult 2021 has been for all tech recruiters due to an incredibly competitive market unlike any other weve seen. Im not really sure why any of that is ruffling feathers but I have my suspicions.

The charity part is really negligible when you consider theyre only donating the tips they get. So theyre taking time out of their day, interrupting their work, to drive to a restaurant, possibly wait around a while, drive to deliver it and then drive home to maybe contribute $3-5. Its very little return for the time invested. You could argue that it makes the devs better in tune with their product, sure. But then they can do that every 6 months or a year. Or implement a program that has them do a few deliveries as training during their onboarding. DD has an army of data analysts, UX researchers and data scientists that work on improving the app.

I prefer setting up monthly contributions and my company matches them dollar for dollar with no hoops or attempt at marketing. Other tech companies offer volunteer hours where they let their employees contribute working hours to a cause of their choice. It has nothing to do with being entitled or feeling above the job. Ive volunteered numerous times for things my company has set up for charitable causes but they were things I wanted to do. They were not forced nor tied to performance reviews.

People shitting on me out of spite just proves their own insecurity, its no skin off my back. Im simply sharing what I know of this industry and if that bugs anyone then it says more about them than me.

I know people who dont bring their babies because they cry the whole time. Since she acts so good I just dont see the need to leave her alone with someone. As she gets older and wants to be entertained more, that may change.

With finding competent candidates, having them go through the interview process, offer negotiations, etc, youre looking at a couple of months to replace a senior engineer. And thats if the recruiter is decent and aggressive at finding people. The tech market is a shit show competing for candidates right now. They have so many options. Every time I go to make an offer, they have 3-4 other offers on the table. Just because you think their app is nbd doesnt mean theyre not talented. They wouldnt be paying $400k if they were shit.
