argonautweakend

I know a lot of people who use spotify and make playlists of songs. Or other services. That is totally fine, but I feel like something is lost with playlists of random songs(not really random as the songs fit a mood or genre, but compared to albums, yes)

But I feel like you lose something in that, that if you listen to full albums, you get.

Here are some examples of what I mean: I was listening to the first album by the band Naked City, which is very odd. It combines traditional jazz elements and other styles with grindcore and other abrasive genres. So when the second track "The Sicillian Clan", which is a cover of an Ennio Morricone piece ends and you get the very short, very grindcore influenced "You Will Be Shot" you might be blown away. One band, the same musicians on both tracks, both are drastically different. That might be some sort of musical revelation. But making playlists, you could easily have film scores interspersed with grindcore or any abrasive genre you want. So if i were to put on this full album I'd be blown away by the disparity of genres present on one bands album. Once in a while, I do get blown away by genre disparity, very recently, last night, the track "Weekend Sex Change" by The Dillinger Escape Plan(metalcore) off of the album "Calculating Infinity" with its almost drum n bass slapping, or Botch(mathcore) ending their album "We Are the Romans" with some drum and bass.

I feel like to people who mainly listen to curated playlists lose some of this. To me, I'm listening to a full album blown away by the off kilter elements that somehow work even though they are different and not what you'd expect, taking in the whole of an entire album. The band has to come up and these ideas and find ways to make them work in the context of the album they are on. That fascinates me. But to playlist people, they might not even care because anybody can make a playlist with all the weird track listings they want, so the surprise of hearing grindcore after a cover of a film score track, may not mean anything.

This isn't to say playlists are bad. I have some that I put on at work because I need to filter out aggressive or offensive songs from an album or a bands discography, because I have to keep it PG. But I don't listen to playlists otherwise, and every album I am interested in I need to listen to it in full, because I need to take it all in, and trying to understand the how and why to me is fascinating. I feel like some of that magic is lost if you never consume full albums.

Doing more research into the matter it turns out this doesn't appear to be a Capped Bust dime at all. Oh, how the wheels keep turning.

This is likely a Canadian dime made bwteen 1858 and 1901 featuring Queen Victoria on it. What little details I can make out point to it being this over a Capped Bust dime, and while not using a super precise measurement tool, a tape measure brings this bad girl in at about 18.0mm, which is the correct size for a Canadian dime from this time period.

Well shoot, I was wrong twice, but I think I finally have a winner

Dang that is a nice looking penny. I've never really seen any errors like that myself, but that is crazy. the more obvious and glaring the error is, the more money it is worth, so that might sell for a bit, though I don't know too much about errors having never really discovered one myself.

As far as selling? Meh. If there was profit to be made, I'd sell it for sure, but...for something so worn and thin, with no year legible...i'm just gonna keep it because 5-10 dollars max isn't enough value to make me want to do anything with it.

So, lets see here. I cannot tell what the exact year is, but according to The Book

1828| 125,000 minted between regular and small size, the small size is also variety small date square base 2 and has a minimum value of $65. My coin would grade lower than the lowest value(G-4) listed, by a margin.

1829| 770,000
notable varieties| curl base 2, with a minimum value of $4,500

1830| 510,000
1831| 771,350
1832| 522,500
1833| 485,000
1834| 635,000
1835| 1.42m
1836| 1.19m
1837| 359,500

The lowest values for these in the book are around $25 in G-4 condition. This is significantly worse and as such it might be a $10 coin, because you cant tell the year, and it's condition is...troubling.

Sitting in some guy's ass jeans pocket isn't the life this deserves. Around 190 years later, this sumbitch can retire.

In a previous thread I mentioned how I got paid with an old, late 1800s to early 1900s Barber dime.

I was wrong, folks.

This ain't no barber dime; never even got its hair cut.

This man comes in and is paying with coins. One of the coins he placed on the table I thought was just scrap. It was a tiny, flat, featurless disk. As he is getting his change out further he says "I don't think that is a dime" and something then hit me, because a second later I say "nah man, that's a dime" "it is?" "Yes."

I didn't know what it was, but the feeling I had to investigate was strong. Because while it could be some form of pocket lint, it just didn't make sense. So tiny...keep that in mind.

This actually is a Capped Bust(1809-1937) dime I have dated to be from between the years of 1828-1837. How do I know this? I was curious why it was smaller than a regular dime once discovering it was some type of coin, because the reduced size did not seem to impact the actual design of the coin, from what little I could make out. This is because during those years of 1828-1937 they reduced the width by 0.3mm.

This coin is super worn, super old, and super odd. Never before have I seen a coin this thin before without being altered on purpose or look like it went through every war known to man. The item I thought was just trash at first is actually almost 200 years old, but it just looks worn from many hands, and not anything brutal

here is a real one

here is mine

https://imgur.com/i3aKrhf

There is just enough there to tell what it is, and I can narrow it down, but I cannot find the year on it. Heavens no, a mint mark.

Buffalo nickels have a problem wherein the dates get worn off before most of the other design elements, but there is a product you can buy that will corrode the coin to reveal the date. This ruins the coin, but if there is no other way to tell what year it is from....just do it. I haven't done it but I want to. It could be rare, so damaging it prove it still means ya got a rare coin, and what I assume is diminished value, vs like one dollar in value for any random dateless buffalo.

I don't know if there is a product available to do the same for the 90% silver nickels, but this one is so thin, I don't think it matters. It would eat through it.

Anyways, this has been exhilarating. I thought at first that random, thin, tiny disk of metal was not even a dime, but the intuition was strong. I learned some dimes were 0.3mm smaller than normal, so dangit I will never almost make that mistake again

Yesterday I got 71 shares of amc(what $500 could afford) just because I wanted to get in on something. I watched as I was down a bit, then the price rose and I was consistently ahead by like 20-50 bucks all day. Today was similar. Up 50-70 all day and now it seems to have "exploded" because now I am up almost $300.

I guess this is a million dollar question, but fuck diamond hands, fuck WSB, fuck memes. When do I get out? I guess nobody knows. Say it does get to like 400 like GME did, I'd feel dumb for getting out now that its 11, at 20, at 100...but I guess I need to be content with whatever decision I ultimately make.

What is a barber dime? It's the design before the Mercury dime, made 1892-1916(then you have Mercury dimes into the 40s, then Roosevelt dimes we see today).

A guy comes in and is paying me, and getting his change out. He sets down one really small, really worn circular disk on the counter, because he needed two dimes. I'm thinking "hey that's not a dime" thinking it was just a piece of scrap or something. The customer says "I don't think that is a dime" and I quickly came to my senses. I said "nah it's a dime we're good"

So that part of me was kind of untruthful, but oh well. Upon further inspection it IS what appears to be a Barber dime. No date legible, and I can barely make out any design features, but I think so.

https://imgur.com/ZuL1Vfo

https://www.usacoinbook.com/us-coins/1893-barber-dime.jpg

This is one of the most worn down coins I've ever seen. WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the First AND Second Boer War. You name it, it's probably been there.

But despite the war comparison, this doesn't look intentionally damaged or defaced, or run over by a train, or anything. It just looks super worn down but not because of anything but human hands accelerating the process. I've never seen a more modern coin this thin, this worn. But hey i'll take it.

What is it worth? Probably maybe a couple bucks, if that. The silver content is diminished because it is super thin, and there is no visible date, so it could be a rare key date or not, I have no way of telling, unless there is a product like for Buffalo nickels where in you can corrode the coin to reveal a date, but I don't know if a similar product for the composition of silver dimes exists. But if it did I'd be awfully curious to see what the date is.

ive seen some dash cam videos where the cammer had right of way or was in the right and clearly not at fault, but the accident could have been prevented if the cammer was actually paying more attention. A lot of people think that if they see an erratic driver ahead rather than slow down to give them space, they try to pass 'em, which can end hilariously.

defensive driving, even when you have right of way and are not doing anything wrong, is good.

Of course they can, as that was one of the purposes of the document in the first place. However, it is hard to do, and this happens very rarely in the modern day. Any of one of the bill of rights could be scrapped tomorrow, but it's just unlikely it would ever happen with all the votes and such that need to occur in order to make it happen.

As far as the time span it means when the idea was first proposed and then completed. As for why the most recent amendment took over 200 years to be completed, I don't know exactly why that was.
