what about when adjusted for inflation, spending power, and also return on investments? because generally my impression is that most high income high net worth people are preferring the states still by far.

with Australia and Europe being vacation spots / vacation cottages on the beach for old age leisure, etc.

These numbers are all PPP adjusted. Return on investment is irrelevant. I have investments in multiple countries and I assume most Americans who invest do as well.

Someone want to tell him how many times I've pointed out Australia has a higher median income? Or that Luxembourg isn't the other countries in Europe with higher incomes?

Because I'm done with his blatant dishonesty.

Yes I clicked the link showing the US has one of the highest median incomes in the world, what are you trying to prove here?

Others have higher incomes. You ignore that. You dismiss Japan because it has a lower median income. So if the US is lower than 5 countries what makes it better than them? And if you admit income isn't all that matter you are left with all the many measure the US doesn't do well at. And again you have stuff like the US and News World Report saying the US isn't the best country to live in. You aren't going to find much suggesting it is. Thinking it is the best is nothing but an impediment to improvement.

And we literally do? In the entirety of the developed world the only countries that compare to us are nations like Switzerland, Norway, etc. And Japan isn't even in the conversation.

I do not care if you personally like Japan over the US. That isn't the argument. You asked for stuff we do well and I gave you multiple examples. You're just proving my point about people not being aware of them.

So did you not click the link that listed the incomes, because you are just listing some bullshit there.

You literally said the US has high incomes then dismissed the countries with higher incomes. You claimed quality of life is income, so again these European "microstates" (outside of Luxembourg, I don't think that applies, Australia definitely isn't a microstate and isn't even European) beat the US. And the US and World News report that you ignores also lists places as better than the US, because most people don't think median income is the determination of quality of life.

He made a claim that the US doesn't do anything better than other countries and then when I gave him a list he ignored it and said wages don't matter.

Learn what a rebuttal is.

I didn't say wages don't matter. I said that the standard of living for people isn't just wages. A lot of people in the US can be bankrupted by a medical emergency. Average savings are incredibly low. You seem to think income inequality doesn't matter, you don't care about things like homelessness, crime, drug abuse, etc. If your entire definition of what makes a country good is income, then the US still doesn't win:
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/median-income-by-country

There are multiple European countries ahead of it, so what makes the US better than them?

Also I find it hilarious that US News and World Report ranks multiple countries as better than the US:
https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries

Japan is number 2 and your northern neighbor of Canada is number 1. Maybe you got some work to do.

I don't know if I would use the word easy, but there are tons of awesome free resources now. Especially Spanish you have a lot of great stuff out there. You will want to use a free spaced repetition app like Anki or Memrise. You also want to do a language exchange with a real person (which also has a lot of great free apps, like HelloTalk). If you take it seriously you can speak competent Spanish in less than a year.

Cool. An overwhelming majority would disagree with you, since people do vote with their feet.

All of the stuff I listed applies to Japan as well as Europe btw. In some cases more so, Japanese incomes are even low by European standards!

The GINI index in Japan is much better than America, as is all of Europe. You are focusing just on incomes. Ignoring the standard of living for the average person. Any measure of standard of living will rank them above America. People in Japan aren't worried about being bankrupted by medical bills, the homeless rate is or is close to the lowest in the world depending on what stats you look at. Life expectancy is the highest in the world. Violent crime is near or is the lowest in the world.

All you seem to care about is income. Yes America is rich, which is good for a subset of people there.

Like by all means they should be considered distinct just like say Russia, Germany, and France, but you can't ignore their commonalities.

Unfortunately people never seem to consider the alternative until they experience it personally.

I've lived in America and Japan. America is a shit hole compared to Japan. That's my personal experience. I also spent 3 months in Germany, not enough to make a judgement, but I would live there over America (I have also lived in China, which is where half my family is from, I would never live there permanently). Maybe if you live in a rich part of America it's nice. I didn't. Violence, perpetually ignored homeless, drug addicts, abject poverty. That was my environment. It doesn't need to be like that. Since again no other first world country has nearly the same rate of violent crime, drug addiction, inequality, imprisonment, etc. America is the richest county, but it doesn't make use of that to make society better for people who aren't already rich as they should (based on every other first world country).

And lol at anyone who brings North Korea into this. America isn't the worst country in the world, you compare it to equally rich countries to see what it should be achieving, not pick the worst examples and tell people to stop complaining.

The real bias in the media isn't left or right-wing politics, it's negativity.

Please let me know what is better about the US than basically any other first world country. You have by far the highest rate of violent crime, the highest prison population percentage (that's in the entire world actually), highest rate of drug addiction, worst scores on international education assessment tests, most expensive healthcare, worst GINI index score (measure of inequality), the list goes on. What is the US the best at? Having billionaires and a strong military?

One of the "problems" with being such an affluent country is that we're starting to produce a generation of extremely naive people who've never faced any real conflict in their lives and struggle to put all this stuff in context.

If you live in America now and compare yourself to basically any other first world country things don't look very good. You have to look at the past in America to make things look better now.

ssjevot

The Soviet Union basically provided them the perfect propaganda by being authoritarian state capitalism calling itself communism. Workers ended up with more rights, better wages and better working conditions in Western countries. Communism just became a word for authoritarianism. In countries that actually had established socialist movements there was still a desire for worker control of the means of production but in the US socialism has become associated with social democracy, which is a form of capitalism. People in the US are so disconnected from what the core concept of socialism is that it basically has no chance existing in the present environment there.

I live in a country with an actual communist party and it isn't associated with authoritarianism or capitalism because it never claimed the Soviet Union or China had communism or that it wanted to be anything like them. It's funny that there are actually a number of young Americans, tankies, that explicitly say authoritarian state capitalism is communism which only further destroys any chance the general public would ever want anything to do with it.

Edit: For clarification, I went to Maidreamin and another smaller known one. Forgot the name of the second one.

I went to the Maidreamin' in Akihabara closest to the train station (it's the original one with the visible stage from the street) on New Year's Eve in 2019/2020 and it was the absolute best time. They had non-stop signing the entire time rather than once an hour. Champagne was discounted (though still way more than it would be basically anywhere else) and we get all kinds of goods for free. Had corona not ruined everything I would have loved to go back last New Year's.

A lot of people say @home is the best in Akihabara, but unless you consider length of lines to be the measure of quality I don't agree. Maidreamin' is everywhere now though. Not just Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, any major city you tend to see it. I live in a smaller city so we just have a small independent place that honestly isn't all that great (it's also a cosplay cafe, maids is just one of many occasional outfits), but they have a decent manga library.
