I would like to ask if you could please try to judge us as individuals though whenever possible.
@The_Hat
I'm not the same guy, but I kind of have the same view. I was raised Christian in a small town, and every Christian I've ever met is one of the following types:
  • Sadistic and cruel. These hide behind the Word of God to justify their meanness and abuse.
  • People who think they are God. These are mainly backwoods pastors.
  • People who pretend to be holy and good but who act just like everyone else when not at church.
  • People who get super into the religion and give off weird cult vibes.
  • The type who believe in Heaven and Jesus but have never read any of the Bible and couldn't quote a single verse if asked.

Your are yet another type, the type who insists that there are real Christians out there that aren't like the others you've seen. That some folks out there are living the way Jesus wanted and are cool people. I have met precisely zero of these people in real life. I'm sure that there are plenty of good folks out there who are Christian, but the fact that some of the worst people I've ever met are all church leaders and "godly" men started me firmly on the path to atheism.

Just from the trailers, if you have time machine technology why the fuck are you using it to bring cannon fodder from the past instead of manipulating the timeline to win easily?
@Blbmbr666
Because they don't know when or where the aliens actually arrived so they can't do anything to stop them from coming. That was about the only glaring flaw in the plot that the movie actually addressed. Other such flaws include how they quickly convinced the whole world they were from the future, how they ever got the world to agree to fight the future war for them when we can't agree on anything in the present, why the future has lame regular weapons instead of something cool when 30 years is time enough to build a time machine, why we aren't sending them nukes instead of regular soldiers, etc.

So many things about the movie felt off or just made no sense. It had real star power and a large budget behind it, to say nothing of the long runtime. There was no excuse for it not to be incredible based on the premise alone.

I can't believe all of the Axiom Verge hate in this topic. The graphics were great and the music was even better. I only have two real complaints: the grapple beam in the game controls like ass and some parts of the game were balls hard. I can give it a pass for those though. Almost every Metroidvania out there has some kind of awkward mechanic, and difficulty is relative. For all I know, nobody else struggled nearly as hard as I did against some of those bosses.

If so, why? Around a year ago, I watched a close relative of mine die on hospice. It was ghastly. Like, there wasn't anything spiritual or enriching about the experience at all. You could basically check off the parts of the brain and body that died each week. The idea that when the body finally fails and death destroys any remaining memories or abilities the brain once had, an invisible thing called a soul that was the real you all along pops out like loot from a video game enemy and goes somewhere else seems kind of silly.

Trauma to the brain can erase memories, impair any kind of function, change morality, change the personality completely, and even alter sexual orientation. So what is it exactly that a soul does? If the very character of a person can be changed through brain trauma, doesn't that sort of kill the idea of mind-body duality? If souls exist, at what point in the evolution of the human race did we start to receive them? Where do they come from? Why can't we detect them?

On a slightly broader note, if souls come from somewhere other than our physical reality before we are born, and then fly off when we die, what of that spirit world? Evidently, souls can only get body and leave a body. because we see nothing else happening on that front. If vengeful ghosts were real, Adolf Hitler, Albert Fish, and Frank West would have had a pretty bad time of it. Similarly, we don't see dead grandmas coming back to heal or comfort their grandchildren. We don't see any real evidence of other types of non-human spirit creatures, either. If gods or devils existed, you'd think at least some of them would would care about what happened in our physical reality and take some kind of action. But that doesn't happen today,and as far as we know, it never happened in the past either.

I wish there were a convincing reason to believe, but it all seems so silly and obviously untrue.

So what's the real story here? Is this really about the George Floyd case and the repercussions, or is it a COVID economy thing? During the pandemic, every business around me started cutting workers to increase profits, demanding unreasonable hours for their remaining employees, and forbidding time off. Even with Biden being elected and the rollout of vaccines everywhere, these things haven't changed, and now all Republican states are trying to cut unemployment benefits to push people back into low-wage, long hour jobs that have just gotten harder purely for the sake of company profits.

It's not the case that all businesses with lots of openings want them filled either. I know several high-end businesses in my area are keeping positions open as a sort of carrot to dangle in front of the remaining staff. Telling them, in essence, that things will get better when they hire more people (to replace the ones they fired for no reason?!), but nobody is applying...

I'm sure there are jobs where they can't get the right people, jobs that get vacated because workers want to move on, and jobs that can't be filled because no one will put up with what is required in the job for low pay. But there is definitely a game being played in a lot of businesses.

School needs a big overhaul in the United States, or at least that is what my life experience tells me. My physical education classes were taught by barely functional alcoholics and people with 100 word vocabularies and behavioral problems that taught dangerous ways to lift weights (if they taught anything at all). The music teachers didn't want to acknowledge you unless you played an instrument already or could sing. In art, you were part of the in-group if your skills were good but not better than the instructors, you were either doted on or bullied if you were better than the teacher, and ignored otherwise. Technical education was taught by folks who knew more than the average high school student, but would have been laughed at by anyone who did it professionally or as a serious hobby.

Science was fine for me, but the main teacher actually had an engineering background. Math was OK, but if you had any interest in it at all, you could easily go beyond what the teacher knew. History was memorization, mostly of some key US facts, but the envelop was never pushed and I had to read on my own to learn basically anything worth knowing. English was mostly good, but I would have preferred to gain more practical communication skills.

Something is wrong with how stuff is taught though, because you see tons and tons of people who can't understand percentages or proportions, or sometimes even perform the most basic addition and multiplication. I took my education seriously, and even I had to work a lot harder than I think is reasonable to turn my A in something like calculus into the practical skills to solve real problems.

There absolutely should be a required course on cooking, one on personal finance and maybe a little law, and maybe one on some other common life skills. Not everyone has good parents, and those with good parents may not have ones who have the time to teach basic life skills. or they may not have them in the first place. There are a surprising number of wholly defective people in the world who know nothing but somehow continue to exist anyway.

I second this. James used to have more fun doing the AVGN and did most of the work himself. It shows. He doesn't do any of the writing or planning anymore and just phones it in. Mike left to do other things, which not only killed off James and Mike Mondays, but took away the driving force behind the AVGN character.

Observe the following progression:
1/1 = 1
1/0.1 = 10
1/0.01 = 100
1/0.001 = 1000

The smaller the divisor becomes, the larger the quotient. If you could divide by zero, you would get something that was infinitely large. Since infinity is not a number, division by zero is impossible. In more advanced mathematics, we would say that the limit as x goes to zero of 1/x is infinity.
