I thought this would be about the EU's Article 17 which just went into effect.

But this is bad as well.

Oh, cool. So the courts are going with the YouTube system of copyright protection. That always works out for the people.

An ISP should be no more liable for your piracy than the local water utility would be if you drowned someone in your bathtub.

I've heard that most countries are really watering it down so that it doesn't do much. Are there serious problems in Europe with copyright?

No, it's because he's getting kickbacks.

Can't say, since I don't live in the EU. But a certain site that I have bookmarked says that due to the nature of the site, they have no choice but to block all traffic from the EU until some solution is found.

That's like the fourth or fifth time some overbearing EU mandate that's effectively impossible to actually comply with has just led to sites cutting off Europe entirely.

That's a pretty serious accusation, I'm no lawyer but I wouldn't be surprised if that could be considered libel(I'm assuming you have no evidence of said kickbacks).

It should be on the accuser to prove an individual pirated. If multiple people use an internet service, it should be on the accuser to prove which individual is the pirate.

This seems like a power grab, not merely a ruling but like it's going way beyond what the actual verdict needed to be and creates requirements that don't line up with reality or even the previously applicable rules and verdicts.
