To clarify on "they should be allowed to leave," what I have read and been told on the subject is that while social workers do end up chasing kids down to convince them to stay, the OFFICIAL policy is that they should not do this and the kids should be allowed to leave. So it seems to be something that actually works better than it sounds in practice?

They're children. I'm not sure "just freely let them leave" is a great idea as it would be for adults. Like, if they just let them leave, it's going to turn into "Biden administration doesn't give a shit about kids, losing children every day!"

It's a lot more complicated than just treating them as adults.

I mean that's not the ideal. What you want is the quality care I mentioned. But part of being humane is allowing escape from a bad situation if that occurs. It shouldn't happen, but the escape valve should be there.

Another point of clarification - we refer to them as children but this policy applies to all unaccompanied minors. You have people in their late teens being detained too, it's not just completely helpless babies. They've got SOME agency.

I mean this is easy, you build actual shelter and pay trained social workers for quality care instead of building detention centers run by for-profit companies that kids are literally not allowed to leave. Big difference!

Well conditions have improved marginally, but the structure is the same. It really is a similar policy (people in here have covered the subtle differences) and a lot of the same contractors are involved. Instead of LITERAL cages it's like, converted trailers, which is good! It's just, a lot of the same abuses are going to occur in a slightly nicer living space. Kids are still being detained past the 72 hour limit. Stuff like that.

It's the equivalent of when prisons improve the quality of their cafeteria food and act like it's a huge step towards prison reform.

Biden is specifically for unaccompanied minors. Children that do not cross the boarder with their family and need some place to stay until their families are located or until the US government can find an appropriate guardian. It makes far more sense to detain solo children than it does to pull them apart from families that come with them.

I mean, if they're being detained it's still a cage. If you want it to not be a cage the children need to easily be able to leave.

I'm not saying they don't need to build shelter. I'm saying that what Biden is doing is not humane shelter, it's not a "good enough" improvement. The people getting the contracts to build these temporary shelters are the same companies who oversaw the tent camps and human rights violations at detention centers, and that is plainly not good enough.

True, I think I was mixing it up with people saying Harris can overrule them. It seems like in the past Republicans did this via the Majority Leader and Secretary of the Senate. But this is splitting hairs - Democrats have avenues to fight it, Biden and Harris have avenues to pressure the party to do so.

I always find it funny when people compare Mario Odyssey and BotW, because IMO they couldn't be more opposite. BotW's content is scattered across a vast, mostly empty world whereas Odyssey packs a similarly ludicrous amount of collectibles into way smaller spaces, thus creating a scenario where every inch of the level is actually engaging.

Yeah there are plenty of throwaways that you just trip over as a result, but the entire space is used to the absolute fullest and there are still far more cool moons in Odyssey than there are main collectibles in any other Mario game.

I would agree with this except what you're describing about Odyssey moons is the same design style as the Korok seeds. It doesn't really matter that Mario has multiple maps and Zelda has one. I bet they're about a similar density.

So the major difference you point out here is that Mario has "major" objective moons that are well designed. A lot of the minor objective ones are too! It's just that there are a LOT of minor moons that just exist to make the world dense. If you set out to collect all the moons, or even just get to 500, it starts to get tedious. By the end I was using tbe amiibo feature to mark my map and wasn't having a ton of fun doing what amounted to fetch quests for the amiibo roomba.

This isn't necessarily BAD but I'm a Galaxy > 64 type. Mario is best to me when the level design is tight. And like foolmo already pointed out, getting 120 stars/all levels in past Marios has generally been worthwhile so it took me longer than I should have to realize I was just doing Korok seeds past 500 moons. Part of that is on me but also I wish the game had differentiated the moons. Except, that would ruin the feeling of progression they want to achieve for exploration-focused players when you stumble across a random minor moon buried in the desert. It's whatever, it's not for me.

I'm a big fan of Mirage Shot. It's killer on most cast builds. Special shoutouts if you're doing Ares and can manage to get Hunting Blades with it.

These are all good to great, but Heart Rend is probably my #2. I could possibly be overvaluing the cast boons but I do think even if I am, it's close.

Not only is open immigration itself leftist, but jumping straight there is a huge leap when the US's immigration system is already very conservative. Advocating for any left policies at all is already going to have to run up against nationalism and conservatism. If your point is that we shouldn't accept nationalism in exchange for left policies then yeah but this shit is not mutually exclusive.

I think this is an appropriate way to describe Skyward Sword as a whole, which is probably why I'm still partial to it. I'm not super annoyed digging through crap if it means I unearth a gem (Ancient Cistern, Sandship, really the entire desert area) along the way.

Yeah I've maintained that Skyward Sword is among the best and worst Zeldas for this reason! Though to be fair, the dungeons are all solid at worst. The bad parts are uh...in all the other parts of the game.

Zeus is my favorite weapon and what I got my 32 heat clear on. I absolutely love putting Zeus or Dionysus boons on it and going to town, when fully upgraded it does a shitload of damage, you can kite it around the room, and that's just the special! You still have the ability to block!

Beowulf is also pretty easily in my top 5, extremely good aspect, but even with that it isn't particularly close here.

I had a completely miserable time trying to do all the shrines in BotW and left mostly unfulfilled with its extremely shallow gameplay, vast landscape with absolutely nothing in the majority of it, and obnoxious crafting system it leaned so hard into.

Nintendo's design choices in BotW and Mario Odyssey have hard trained me out of bothering to 100% them. It's very clearly not how they are supposed to be played anymore, unless you are super addicted.

TP's dungeons are so boring to me. There's about 3 of them I really enjoyed (Arbiter's Grounds, City in the Sky, and parts of Snowpeak) but the rest of them are bog standard, and some are among my least favorite in the series

I am 100% behind his viewpoint. Wind Waker is hands down the best looking Zelda game. And then everyone thinks about that and forgets how awful the dungeons were. It's bizarre.

Except for Forsaken Fortress the dungeons are fine so I'm not really forgetting anything

I don't see how this will happen. MM was like this because it was a major shift in direction and tone, I don't think they'll do that. I think it's gonna be more like Super Mario Galaxy vs Galaxy 2 where the consensus was the sequel was just the first game but more polished and streamlined and perfecting the level design.

I mean when you think about it, it's remarkable how beloved and good BotW is despite being so mechanically barebones. Not a lot of Zelda gadgets and magic, hilariously low enemy variety, very few traditional dungeons and bosses, not a ton of weapon or combat variety...all they have to do is the same thing, but more, and I don't see how people will be disappointed.

I'm not leaving it out of the conversation! It's a great album! I think the other two are better. I'm not grading on a curve based on what's definitive for the genre or anything, I just actually think the other two are far more consistent.

Human After All is the one I'm content to leave out of the conversation.

I don't think Monica needs to be acting rationally but the framing of some of her scenes is weird. I do agree with the criticism of the truck scene because it just feels...pointless? I can see where the thought process is - they try to enter with a super advanced vehicle, it kind of gets through and Monica sees that it got halfway through and decides to try herself - but something about the way the scene is just awkward instead of dramatic. I dunno.

I feel a similar way about the earlier scene with her weird test results, and she gets mad when they ask to run more tests. Why? Trauma from losing her mother to cancer? That's a great reason, but it feels like it gets glossed over because they don't want to tip their hands about her powers developing too soon (which also might have let us skip the stupid truck). I just wish Monica had more time to unpack stuff as a character instead of mostly being subject to what has to happen for the plot.

Achiles is my favorite, being able to dash around like an idiot is tons of fun and I like that it can also buff your cast.

Hades is a good aspect too if I really am in a spin attack kind of mood, but I haven't gone back to it in a while.
