He said Tokimeki Memorial would "not be 3 hours long", so you have to make sure to attack a statement like that from every angle possible.

Well Tokimeki Memorial is only so long because of the LP segments, and I do honestly believe he won't have nearly as much to say about Cyberpunk 2077, so if it's much longer than his normal reviews it's because he's doing some weird season finale shit that will only be tangentially related to the game. So I think THAT much is accurate.

Out of curiosity, I googled "West Virginia minimum wage polling" and found this, which is even more depressing. I haven't looked at the poll itself, but the good news is that 60% approve of the $15 minimum wage. 71% approve of Manchin's plan though, including a higher amount of democrats than the $15. This doesn't quite answer the question though, because (and again I have read the poll itself) I think the better phrased question would be "if yes (approve of the minimum wage increase) then do you support plan a or plan b". I feel like if it is phrased that way, then the $15 plan would actually be more popular, nationwide at least.

https://www.newsweek.com/joe-manchins-11-minimum-wage-more-popular-bidens-15among-democrats-republicans-1573489

(I couldn't find anything for WV itself after a brief cursory search that wasn't the poll linked above, but I could be missing something)

I mean it seems obvious to me that this is because voters do not see this as an either/or thing. They are being presented with two options and going "oh! both of these are good!"

This is not how politics actually works. Part of putting pressure on Manchin would be screaming to these voters "we are trying to do one of these plans, right now, and Manchin is blocking it. We will not get either if he keeps doing this."

lol

I think they probably will in future bills. They can't here because when they started reconciliation earlier all the numbers were locked in so they can't just magic more money into the bill for that purpose. But stuff like infrastructure? WV going to look like Coruscant by the end of the decade lol. (If they can get rid of the filibuster, where I think Sinema might now be the bigger issue.)

My only issue is that someone posted something in here about how Dems apparently didn't reach out to Sinema over some of this reconciliation stuff. And that's just a bad sign. I think you're right in that they are really limited by this part of the process but they SHOULD be reaching out now and getting this bill through because the real fight starts after it passes. Republicans will start filibustering legislation and the reality is the Dems will have to convince the centrists holdouts to get on board AND abolish the filibuster at the same time. It feels to me like leadership is dragging their feet and pretending like that isn't what will happen. Publicly? I get it. But the private conversations should be happening.

You're right, it shouldn't be! But depending on how brittle the relationship between Manchin and Senate Leadership is that could be a dangerous move for them. Like I said, while I don't think the relationship has deteriorated anywhere near such a point, Manchin can single-handedly put them out of power by flipping to the Republicans. Hell, they'd welcome him with open arms. So if such an aggressive action came from his own colleagues it might push him towards that direction whereas if it comes from anywhere else it wouldn't.

Yeah, I understand this. My point is that walking on eggshells to please Manchin may just have the same effect. They have a little bit of time to win him over but after that it's time for hardball. And I, personally, don't think the eggshell strategy is going to pay off in the near enough future. There's a really small window for it anyways and I'm out of patience.

What can the Democratic leadership threaten him with? They need his vote on other issues way more than Manchin needs them for anything.

It depends on if Manchin can actually be won over. Again, my perspective is that Manchin and friends are going to end up costing Dems the Senate in 2022. If that's the case, they could kick him out of the party. Remove his support and campaign against him in 2024. Make his seat less valuable by focusing on others. Everyone knows Manchin is only in this position because he is the 50th Senator, make it clear you're more than willing to accept a different #50 who is less difficult. No, this doesn't help us NOW, but neither does Manchin's obstructionism so just try to bully him into being less of a shit.

xp1337 posted...
Manchin has shown he will flip if pressure is applied to him by his constituents though. I already forget what it was (god it may have been earlier on this very bill for all I know) hell I think it might even have been the checks still where he flipped like two days later after West Virginians got mad at him and started flooding his office with calls. I think progressive efforts would be best directed in trying to replicate that in the short term. Long term idk - it's a problem.

For a less scorched earth take, you can do this. But it shouldn't be on progressives to do this! Every person in a leadership role to the left of Manchin should be bullying the shit out of him and riling his constituents up.

Or again if you don't want to antagonize him, just fucking bribe him. I don't care!

I do take some issue with trying to frame this as "Biden and the Dems"

By all accounts we have Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, the House, and like 47-48 Senators all onboard this thing. It's just that because the Senate is such a fucking trash institution that even though the Dem Senators represent something like 40 million more people than the GOP Senators, it's split 50-50 so Manchin is basically the most powerful person in DC and bills live and die by his say.

I dont like this framing. Is Manchin untouchable for some reason? Every time the past 4 years some republican did some wacky heel turn we joked that McConnell or Trump had some dirt on them, and it was probably true to an extent! Does no one have dirt on Joe Manchin? Does he have dirt on all the Dem leadership? Is he squeaky clean and can't be bribed or threatened?

Let's not act like the rest of the Dems are innocent here. There are several people in the party more powerful than Manchin that deliberately choose to not engage with him for whatever reason. Joe Manchin only has power because no one wants the smoke, but on the surface it is an easy fight to pick. Like I said, dems will lose the Senate in 2022 at this rate, and if that happens then Manchin is powerless. They should exploit that knowledge now instead of just giving him free leverage.

For what little it's worth, I've seen some claims saying that the Democrats have to do this to meet the requirements for reconciliation. But yeah, this is an awful idea and they're going to end up pissing off a lot of people. It's disgusting that a few "moderate" Dems are forcing the rest of the party to go along with crap like this just to keep up the filibuster around. I hope they're happy in 2025 when kneecapping the Democrats leads to total GOP control of government with a filibuster-proof Senate majority.

Hope they're happy in 2023 when Republicans get control of the House and Senate and impeach Biden!

Yeah sidequests are not a good value for your time, unless you're doing them while queuing for something and out of beast tribes or whatever. Even then FATEs are probably better.

If you're through Ruby Sea you should have access to Heaven-on-High, which depending on how the queue times are for the highest floor is the 61-70 equivalent to spamming Palace of the Dead. It might be a little depopulated by now, I don't actually know. If the queue is about the same as the highest level dungeon you have, the dungeon should be better.

Also, getting a low level dungeon as Dancer in roulettes suuuucks. Definitely not as fun with all your procs gutted, God forbid if the dungeon is so low you don't even get feathers.

Getting low-level dungeons as Dancer is great actually because they are not at all balanced around dancer having a 1000 potency attack and you just annihilate things.

Plus, I don't know if you've noticed, but for most 2.0 leveling dungeons, melee dps do not have access to aoe attacks at all. Most have to wait until level 30-40. So they end up going much faster than they should when a ranged or caster is in the party.

Bought The World Ends With You on release which I had to look up was allegedly successful, even though it is only getting a sequel now, over a decade later.

I bought Demon's Souls a day or two after release because of word of mouth here and around the internet. It was so far removed from most people's radar that I was still able to get one of the special editions with the guidebook even though it had released already. The early days of Souls games before they became an industry staple and people didn't really "get" them were truly wild.

I fully admit I'm not the best to answer this, but I think they could even just work with tools they already have. Like, using E5S as an example, Maybe something like using leg/foot graze to heavy/bind the bird to make the section easier for the OT? Probably not the best example since thats not exactly hard, i'm just thinking of things to make the fight 'easier' while not being 'required'

Technically you can use heavy graze on an add in e9s this tier it's just that you can already give it heavy though a different method, and also just kill the add.

I'm kind of okay with them pruning out class utility over time. All it did in the past was result in weird jank like the Slashing Debuff.

Slashing and Piercing debuff were broken from a game design and individual job balance perspective. I'm talking more about roles. Ranged used to help manage the party's MP and TP but they deleted TP and decided each individual caster is in charge of their own MP. Palisade was kinda neat too, a free tank cooldown.

I at least want my Refresh back for when the healers eat shit with all their MP regen on cooldown!

Dancer is probably the single easiest job to pick up and play, though I wouldn't get discouraged from being overwhelmed by Samurai. I had to look up a few things when I unlocked it recently and while it does click fast it required knowing how melee classes tend to work in this game. They usually have a dps combo and a buff upkeep combo, and SAM is a bit weird because it has 3 combos instead of two.

UshiromiyaEva posted...

Most quick guides for ranged melee I'm seeing are saying to just hit role actions other than Second Wind and Pelotan whenever they're up and not think about them too hard.

You're probably reading an outdated guide. Some of them I think USED to do damage but do not anymore.

You really only need to pay attention to a few, besides the two you mentioned, and even those are pretty niche.

Arm's Length: This prevents knockback, and is the physical equivalent to Surecast on casters. You can use it to ignore certain mechanics that push you around. It's also a defensive ability for trash mobs on tanks due to the slow.

Head Graze: Is a silence, which allows you to interrupt enemy cast bars that flash red. Nothing in normal content tends to require this IIRC but you will find occasional uses for it here and there. Only tanks and ranged have silences, melee dps have stuns which are slightly different (enemies can be immune to it) so this is something that's part of those roles.

The other two are a heavy and a bind, which are so much more niche than even the two above they are essentially useless.

Edit: Also there is a secret ranged role action that is more important than literally all of these, and that's the damage mitigation. But instead of a generic role action varient they made it a "unique" job skill for all 3 roles, even though it does the same damn thing and they don't even stack with each other. On Dancer it's called Shield Samba. It reduces damage for the party by 10% for 15 seconds, so you basically use it when there's a big aoe hit incoming.

Never played a Musou but here I typically stay as one character until I get a prompt from another, or switch to hit weaknesses/technicals as needed.

I will say the difficulty curve is pretty weird, at least on Normal. All-Out Attacks are busted as hell for normal fights, especially once you start to outlevel enemies. But the minibosses and especially the actual bosses can end you quickly. The ones near the end of the first palace destroyed me a few times, but by the end of second I was doing a lot better managing them.

The high level shadows that show up are also pretty brutal which makes me think level scaling is pretty important in this game.

I hated the 50/60 NIN storyline tbqh, but part of that was the Rogues were too good. Conversely the ONLY good part of the NIN quests is the comic relief antagonist who shows up occasionally. 60-70 was way better because they bring the Rogues back and take the absolute piss out of the Ninja stuff.

My favorite non-DRK job quests are AST and MCH pretty easily. They are good all the way through which very few jobs manage. SCH and SMN are also solid, they can drag a bit but SCH's is cute and both have some neat lore buried in them.

Also I rag on CNJ/WHM but I do have to give a special shoutout to the character of Sylphie who has blessed this game with one of its best memes

and the 60-70 quests are honestly pretty good and not only give her a redemption arc but rightfully shit on the Padjal who suck ass

Despite Athena being a top-tier god, I'm really not excited by her duos overall. The exceptions are the cast boons - Parting Shot is a huge damage boost for cast builds and Lightning Phalanx is a nice upgrade to an already solid cast but honestly still a bit lackluster for a duo. So I guess I'm going Parting Shot - it kind of wins by default.

I have a soft spot for Stubborn Roots because it carried some runs when I was still learning and can also carry during VERY high heat, but on most normal runs I try to avoid it.

Merciful End is apparently used in speedruns? But I dunno, my brain is too small for that and Doom builds aren't my favorite anyways.

Seems like this was a very good incentive on their part, and aligns with my plans, but I imagine some people aren't happy about it lol.

Actually not too much complaining! Most criticism I see is just about how they replaced job quests, which is fair. But overall I think this is better; the quality of the job storylines are HIGHLY variable between jobs and even within jobs between expansions. For every Dark Knight (legit one of the best storylines in the entire game) you have a White Mage (THE TAINT). 5.0 gave us 4 uniformly good questlines and a great bonus for doing them all.

KamikazePotato posted...
In my opinion the individual class quest storylines tend to end on a solid note at Level 70, and anything beyond that would have felt like artificially extending those narratives.

You do get epilogue quests at 80 that are generally pretty good, I wouldn't mind if they made them a bit more involved in the future but I think it's a good model.

Worth mentioning that you will want to prioritize getting a tank, healer, caster, and physical (melee or ranged) to 80 for some extra lore in Shadowbringers that imo is totally worth it. No rush to do so, you can do the quests at any point after completing the story, just a heads up.

Also they said they are going to use this same system for Endwalker, but actually split melee and ranged physical for 5 questlines.

Well the Plan B isn't on Biden - that was Wyman and Bernie's plan. Part of actually fighting for things is that it slows down the process by necessity. I don't think this is Biden's deep cover plan for saying he tried, though you could apply it to the first attempt.

Manchin and Sinema are undoubtedly part of this. Could they have been pressured on the original plan if the parlimentarian had said yes and the Dems didn't have to exert any power to keep it in? Maybe. In that case it would have been worth trying, but there's a lot of unknowns and our government is inherently inefficient so this outcome is expected.

I find Hayward a total bore. Like yeah he's supposed to be dodgy but there's nothing compelling to him and I don't think his actor is very good.

This was the first time I felt even moderately intrigued by Haywood since the flashback was heavily implying he manipulated Wanda into doing all this. I'm sure there's some kind of big reveal coming. Though you are right, he is just so boring in presentation that I don't think it can save his character.

If Vision gets out of this show alive in any form I will be very disappointed. The twins can be fine though, there's at least potential there and Wanda shouldn't be left alone (her being pals with Monica would not count, they do not know each other!).

After the last two episodes I think the most likely outcome is that the Hex version of Vision will live (probably taking over White Vision) but split up with Wanda. He's clearly starting to question his identity and purpose and we now know that he's a projection of Wanda given form. Plus this show has gone a long way to convincing me Vision deserves a second chance as a character after basically being wasted. Hopefully the twins stick around too to complicate things.

But people complaining about a clip show episode is very on brand for the TV trope, in a meta sense.

While I said I enjoyed this episode, it actually would have been better if they leaned hard into the clip show format!

Weren't they like, not legally able to call her Scarlet Witch? I might be mistaken on this but I thought they only got full control over the character a year ago which is why this reveal is even happening.

The fact that they waited this long to do the namedrop kind of makes it awesome though.

I don't actually know, but that sounds plausible enough to me.

I guess I always lumped it in with one of those things that the MCU is semi-embarrassed about (see also: the cheeky bit in the Halloween episode about how their costumes were so ridiculous). I can see how people would enjoy the slow roll but honestly I don't think they ever needed to justify any of this stuff! Honestly I tend to enjoy the MCU more when they just drop ridiculous stuff on the audience and demand we accept it as cool.

As someone who has been bored to tears by all of the heavy MCU elements of this show, this is the first one where I actually enjoyed them all the way through, lol. I liked this episode a lot.

We didn't "learn anything new" really but the flashback format did two important things:
1) Fixed a lot of how terribly the MCU handled Wanda and Vision, particularly skipping over large portions of their character development, retconned her powers in a good way, and finally getting over the cowardice of not having her be called "Scarlet Witch" or have the costume
2) Doing all this in a character-focused way so that it actually feels relevant and impactful and not just an obligatory barebones origin story.

Also it helps a lot that Agatha is there and she's by far my favorite character in the show.

I did get a chuckle out of the kindly eastern european family who you can tell is nice because they watch American sitcoms during a war, lol. I don't think it needed to be explained why Wanda likes and is familiar with old sitcoms but it was cute. except for as mentioned Malcom in the Middle making for a very confusing timeline, obviously the show is ruined now

This wasn't just isolated to Trump though. "shitposting" became a recruiting tool for white supremacists and other far right extremists.

this is true but the actual cancer on society is white supremacy and not online shitposting as a whole, so weird take dude

Rama by far. It's op as shit and fun as hell. Getting off its power shot feels strong, and being able to spread damage with the special ability rocks. Plus, since the special is an auto-targeted multihit that ricochets, you can use it to quickly spread debuffs to a ton of enemies with zero effort. It even spreads multiple stacks of poison/chill! It's nuts.

Lame.

Maybe Biden's a big SNK fan

Even if we're going to decide "Fuck rules, just get stuff done", I still don't get the point of getting upset at the parliamentarian. We should instead be mad at Biden for not declaring himself dictator, dissolving Congress, having the GOP and their supporters executed as enemies of the state, and creating a new $15/hour minimum wage law (and other good progressive ideas). This would be a much faster way to get things done.

you are being hyperbolic but yes, Biden should leverage executive power more. that is why he was elected.

If the Senate has a problem with the rules for reconciliation they can change them. Your issue is with Joe Manchin et al, not the parliamentarian. She's just telling you what the rules are right now.

I actually have problems with everyone involved

The original top picture looks really unfortunate but the original version in the bottom is a lot better than the new one.

But yeah I chalk this up to the original Nier having a pretty rough art style. It works well, except for when it doesn't.
