Eh, to just respond to the topic title...

Its a good enough voice for a kid. Which is what it originally was. Keeping Kid Goku's voice the same throughout him being an adult as well is just kinda dumb. You get a brief area where it MIGHT be okay when it is revealed that he is a Saiyan. But then, no, all the saiyans we see seem to basically have normal adult voices.

Quite so.

There is of course a divergence factor too. Just cause I can imagine things, and imagine the method to empathize to things, doesn't mean I want to actually talk about it. Especially in person with someone else, let alone to the semi-anonymity of some old account on GameFAQs or something.

There are also times when the process short-circuits due to a logical error and thus I cannot see it. Like, if I read a book/watch a youtube series/etc about how X person of either wonder or horror came about with the historical stuff included, then it is much easier to understand their mindsets on both sides. You can't just give me a statement out of no where. The framework and history is important.

Poor Dracula, can't even have a kid without them randomly stopping by to slap him in the face with a sword and knocking him out for a few dozen years. He spends so much effort designing each new version of his castle to show off to the world, but no. The guy is always getting stabbed, whipped, bludgeoned... Sometimes all three at once.

What is a vampire? A miserable pile of returning to life just for yet another beating.

The poll mentions Doomsday, not Dr. Doom. Doomsday is just basically a living weapon of destruction that crashes onto Earth randomly one day and is generally very much not going to be doing anything with potential for good.

The thing is basically the guy a writer throws around when he wants to make people like Superman and Darkseid crap their pants.

spikethedevil posted...
How do they adapt it poorly when its almost 1:1?

He is likely saying that the stuff they added was a big enough detraction that it somewhat ruined the rest.

I will throw in this though: The big speech was NOT a 1:1 thing. It was not originally partly during the fight. It was Joker speaking over a loudspeaker as Batman made his way through corridors and traps on his way to face off with the joker. The speech ends before any physical interaction occurs.

That fan animation I posted a couple posts ago is actually a fairly accurate showing of how the Joker was delivering his speech, right down to the Joker expressing something other than his usual smile during some parts of the speech. The voice clip it uses also highlights most the original speech's emphasis as well (the words that are bolded in the original comic). Its not a perfect fit of course, but its reasonably close.

In the movie, the Joker begins the fight about 3/4s of the way through the speech via bashing Bats over the head with a pot, and then finishes the rest of the speech while basically kicking Bats while he is down a few times while he finishes the speech. It then ends it with a very angry tone and appearance which does not match what the comic showed. The tone of the speech in general is also different at points, such as not laughing at the "multiple choice" part.

I mean, this speech is quite possibly Joker's most famous one. The events leading up to it all involving Gordan and others culminating in the Joker making one of his most defining performances ever. For many fans of The Joker, the speech was one of the primary things they were going to grade a good portion of the whole movie on. If they had really knocked the speech out of the park, then more people might be able to forgive the other... additional filler added to the movie to some degree.

But honestly (its probably obvious by this point that this is my opinion on the speech), they didn't do the best job with the speech. I mean, yes, that fan animation has one of the best villain background musics in Batman history accompanying it (the Finale song from Batman Returns). But that is at least the general tone and feel of a song I would have wanted to hear during the speech. Tragedy is supposed to be the other side of comedy. And so, should have been the secondary tone of the speech, as Joker switches back and forth between his high energy, happy/manic mode and a more subdued, relatively down-to-earth (especially for The Joker), lower energy mode throughout the speech.

So yeah, I feel they did the speech a disservice.

So what? It was a different culture then, on top of being a DIFFERENT culture from your own to begin with. I don't think I need to assume this latter part as you are literally unaware of this and still speaking in clear English.

Cultural differences are a thing (specifically, that Japan until comparatively recently thought much less negatively about nudity).

As for racial stuff? Japan even now is a fairly xenophobic place. And were so for basically the past 100+ years. They are not unwilling to imagine a foreigner type character in a good role, mind you, they just have some... difficulty in disposing of generation-old stereotypes they lift from other nations, since they look easy to draw, funny, and they don't really get why other nations needed to actually get rid of them (at the time they animated Dragon Ball anyway).

Under normal circumstances, nuclear launches are really the only immediate military action a president really has access to (otherwise, they need to go through more people and the pentagon and such).

I rather doubt the military will be willing to fire munitions at targets in their own country without asking why the hell they are being told to. Given the current situation, they might not even obey an order to commit to action against another country if it comes from Trump.

TopicTop 5 worst wars to fight in as a foot soldier
Sephiroth C Ryu
01/09/21 3:22:49 PM

WW2 was brutal to be sure. But for a FOOT SOLDIER it was definitely a much better war to be in than WW1 with its trenches, gas, and basically being at the mercy of a constant-tension-filled artillery duel with explosions and new gas basically happening intermittently around the clock. Even having to sleep in such conditions (just slightly further back if lucky). Heck, you were lucky if your trench was even tall enough to let you actually need to stand up to poke your head over it. Only the most developed ones had any wood bracing or tunnels or other such pleasantries that could allow for a more secure feel to allow one to rest. And surviving the chemical weapons would generally leave you with some rather nasty aftereffects that tended to slowly get worse for the rest of your life.

WW2's combat tended to be a lot less protracted before you could at least rest at a reasonably safe encampment or something (outside of city sieges at least). And when you died, it tended to be from being shot, blown up, or similar, such that if you survive a wound its usually at least "merely" an obvious physical thing like an unreparable joint or a missing arm or leg or something. Naturally, both wars had PTSD of course.

Now, for a CIVILIAN in certain areas and of certain backgrounds, WW2 was worse. But you are asking about fighting as a foot soldier.

I don't see what's wrong with a hybrid system.

Most level-headed people will prefer such a system too. Its kinda actually why we have a system multiple branches of government and such.

But people have a predisposition to start fearing the worst outcomes of if any part of that system gets too strong. And hey, that is built into our original system too, with checks and balances, and having the active formal military mostly outside the internal leadership roles (that is in part due to the military being a bit of a later add-on after it soon turned out that militia is not enough to protect a nation, but the point is that at that time they still limited how much the military is part of the government).

I won't change your mind. However, I will say that there needs to be balance.

Societies tend to get violent, collapse, rebel, and so forth when the lowest class of society reaches the point where they are want for even basic needs such as food and shelter despite efforts at jobs and such.

Socialism should be present to such a state that it prevents this from happening, even in light of the usual corporate greed. Oh, rampant capitalism should have limits to what they can do too, of course (otherwise they will do everything they can get away with to make profit), but you can't over-restrict them and still expect people to actually be able to succeed at something new. Socialism is a method to protect the ability to succeed, while giving a safety net that doesn't directly interfere with this.

Naturally, socialism can be taken too far too. If taken too far, then there becomes no point in working anymore, and thus you stagnate your society/nation/etc. Not taken far enough though, and it becomes a big issue.

Simple access to shelter, food, water, and enough power/energy for basic needs (and at least a restricted internet access to such a degree that you can use it to look for work) is effectively what should be a universal thing. If you want something more, then work and get money for your entertainment, your more comfortable beds, your fancier houses, and so forth. And there should be nothing preventing you from being able to do better and progress in the world if you wish to. But a baseline degree of living really should be gauranteed at this point. And nothing more than this.

People must WANT to do better, or else they will not.

This is a lot worse than it sounds.

A large number of people had free reign over the capital building. Things could (and did) get outright stolen, but there are also the threats that some people placed bugs, installed malware, or otherwise compromised the building itself. What is to say that one or more other countries didn't happen to have an agent in the crowd? Or that someone may have just done something like this on purpose to then sell the results to such an agent?

And then, there is another thing to consider. The house and senate and VP were basically all in one place. That place was then charged by a group incited by a branch of power only the people there can contradict. The rioters basically got within 20 feet of our elected officials, and many had backpacks with unknown contents (along with some known ones like molotev coctails). If these guys weren't so self-elated with taking pictures of them lounging at someone's desk or waving around a spear, and were really trying to be effective, all it would take is someone with a nice backpack bomb and we could have lost a good chunk of the senate and/or house.

If they were competent, they could have killed off the senate, house, and VP in one go.

This sort of thing actually happens more frequently than many might like. The only question is if the guy has sufficiently annoyed international assets enough to forget just which nations have extradition treaties with who.

The sunk cost fallacy is part of it. Another part is that they legitimately fear the left (in no small part due to media, as well as a small handful of extreme left nutjobs that are made as the poster child for the entire left by some of said media). They (and their media) see some loud nutcase pushing something like the 1619 project or something as being EVERYONE on the left, when most people on the left actually quite hate that particular example from the simple perspective of it being both bad history and bad teaching practices.

But yeah, they are scared. Scared enough that they are not blind to the authoritarian ****, but rather see it as the only way to "save" America from itself. The end justifies the means and all that.

I am sure there are a handful who actually do want something more sinister from the current president's continuation (it is these people to really be worried about, as they are also the handful that are likely to form militias/terrorist groups when things really hit the fan), but most of them are just dealing with the more sane reasons mentioned in the topic thus far.

No. I am worried about trump himself. Steroid-induced manic episode, which will either lead to him just taking more and more (enabled by those around him), or will lead to him having a steroid crash.

And if he doesn't get temporarily A25'd, then...

This guy has access to the Football. And the safeguards are entirely dedicated to making sure the the actual person of authority issues the order. There are zero safeguards against whether the issuer is sane or not, by necessity of design to avoid possible exploits in the system.

Its not even a question of whether he'd use it on his own country either. He may remember that the one enemy/boogeyman he portrayed that still holds sway even now as a legitimate threat across the political spectrum is, well, China (in part because there are indeed very many things wrong with China).

What is to say that a truly desperate, and truly insane-by-drugs Trump wouldn't find it a good idea to use the football against them?
