It's funny because what he said actually doesn't apply to a lot of the people here. See, it takes a lot less words just to say "man, that's wrong or sad to hear" then half of these responses. The problem isn't with people who are like yeah that's wrong, and we need to stop the things that cause these things to happen (which is a separate argument but at least an argument that isn't saying violence is acceptable). The problem is with people saying it's justifiable or acceptable for rioting, arson, looting, and etc for whatever reason. That's the issues and that is the extremism leaking in here.

These things have been said outright. I never said what you said. That's what in your mind you think I am saying because you just change what I say to whatever is ridiculous to try and justify your own points and debase the character of those who say them. Like, that's literally a ridiculous claim.

It would be like someone saying they think communism isn't that bad of an idea for a government system. And then someone going OMG YOU THINK THE GREAT TERROR and genocide committed by Russia is AWESOME!

So you're on the record for the most minimal solution imaginable to a massive problem. Under the current system, the police can literally claim "I thought I saw a weapon and I feared for my life" and it doesn't matter what the video footage says, because it's difficult to refute such a claim, because any action from a victim could potentially be pointed at as an example of hostile behavior. For example, the drunk man lying face down on the floor of a hotel hallway was gunned down multiple times for lowering his arms towards his waist.

Are body cams a good start? Sure. But the underlying culture is what needs to change. For fuck's sake, George Floyd was murdered on-camera, and Derek Chauvin KNEW he was being filmed, and he did not correct his actions in any way. Why should he, given that police are far more often than not going to face zero actionable punishments for their brutality?

As long as you refuse to either admit that their actions are over the line (even if they're allowed by the letter of the law), or call for actual change that might make YOU feel "less safe" (and would make others feel more safe), then yes, you're completely fine with violence.

I think your problem is that you go into every scenario with thinking people are TRYING to kill other people. It's a flaw I see in your logic surrounding almost every situation.

Further, I can't find actual evidence that the shootings were done by protesters.

(Haven't looked into it beyond basic review of some news articles, but "Its not clear if the shooting was related to any protests" seems to be all of the info we have currently on that front. Somebody is in custody, but LMPD has not disclosed their identity. Personally, I'd be a bit surprised if they're passing up a chance to demonize protesters if it was done by one. Or even somebody they could pass off as one)

That said, it's okay to think laws should change. I have said I think laws should change with body cams and some other things.

However, flipping out over the people not going to jail when they were sent through the legal process seems a bit weird. It shouldn't be fuck the police. It should be we need to change the laws, if that is how you feel.
