Well, I was assuming that just one of them is the waifu.

141. Shion Sonozaki

Series: Higurashi
Nominator: OrangeCrush980 (3/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: No
Attractiveness: 42 (131/145)
Personality: 29 (140/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 29 (132/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 33.3
Hair: Green (6/7 remaining)
Eyes: Blue (41/43 remaining)
Race: Asian (56/58 remaining)
Age: <15 (8/10 remaining)
Medium: Anime (36/38 remaining)

Lets get this out of the way: when I re-researched Shion, I realized that Id ranked her too highly in every regard. But Id already started the topic, so whatever. Im going to give her the appropriate rankings, and now shes below people who already showed up. Now shes in the bottom 5, just assume everyone above her gets kicked up one rank each. This will probably happen again in the future.

So, Shions another victim of a series with an ugly art style. There are some other art styles of her on Google, I assume Higurashi is a big enough series that its been adapted multiple times and there are several versions of it around, so I sort of just averaged it out. Likewise, her age is either 14 or 17, but it seems to be 14 most of the time. Point is, I can imagine Shion looking good, but no one looks good in what seems to be the primary art style of this series.

More importantly, Shion appears to be an insane person who manipulates people all the time? I appreciate how shes intelligent enough to outsmart a schools worth of guards and faculty, and she does get some points to Girlfriendness for getting a job as a waitress, but everything I can find about her emphasizes either her manipulating people, her being super jealous, or her being violently insane. I dont think anyone wants to deal with any of that, right?

Sorry, Shion. Shion from Xenosaga would have done better, and I only played one-and-a-half of those games.

136. Caster

Series: Fate/Stay Night
Nominator: FL81 (3/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: No
Attractiveness: 68 (59/145 tie)
Personality: 40 (119/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 17 (140/145)
Overall Waifu Score: 41.6
Hair: Purple (11/12 remaining)
Eyes: Purple (7/8 remaining)
Race: White (58/61 remaining)
Age: 20-29 (55/58 remaining)
Medium: Video Game (79/84 remaining)

Im not sure if Im supposed to refer to Fate characters by their titles or names? Because her name is Medea, but the Wikis usually call her Caster, but sometimes they dont? She was nominated as Caster, though, so thats what Im calling her.

Okay, heres the thing about the Girlfriendness ranking. In theory, being super dedicated and loving is a good thing, but when you take it will do anything to be with your boyfriend, including screwing over everyone else in the world levels, it becomes a liability. Theres an anime term for that, but I dont remember what it is and Im too lazy to look it up. The point is, I dont want to have constantly worry that my waifu is going to come up with an insane plan to kill people and steal their magical artifacts so she can stay materialized in the real world longer. I mean, yes, okay, freeing children from being sacrificed is good, but Im going to call that as being below minimum morality.

Then you have the issue of her getting aroused by torturing another girl into obedience and groping her? This TVTropes article about her is all over the map about how sympathetic shes supposed to be, because part of it is like shes totally a sympathetic villain bro and then the other part is like sex torture lol.

As far as looks go, shes a fairly standard attractive anime girl. She does have a cool villain cloak that covers her face, but Im assuming that as a waifu, shell lower the hood, so Im judging her based on that. The Wiki describes her as incredibly beautiful, but lets be real: by cute anime girl standards, shes okay.

Overall, yes, I can see some of the appeal here, but this girls got some serious emotional issues that I am just unprepared to handle.

...which was ridiculous, but visually distinct. Also, there was a chance you'd secretly be attracted to giant brains or power and the nom paid off with a good writeup and a not-last-place finish, so I'm happy with that.
I had honestly just assumed Mother Brain was an attempt at last place.

137. Rouge the Bat

Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Nominator: ZenOfThunder (3/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: Yes
Attractiveness: 66 (62/145 tie)
Personality: 38 (130/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 19 (138/145)
Overall Waifu Score: 41
Hair: White (5/6 remaining)
Eyes: Green (21/22 remaining)
Race: Furry (7/9 remaining)
Age: 20-29 (56/58 remaining)
Medium: Video Game (80/84 remaining)

When I made the nomination topic, Para mentioned how he was going to furry up my nominations. When I asked him why he wasnt using Sonic characters, he said it was because they were too common a choice.

Saying that Im familiar with Rouge the Bat is sort of cheating, because the last Sonic game I played was Sonic and Knuckles in like 1994, but we all basically know Rouge. Ill be honest, here: Im not a fan of the femme fatale archetype. Theres basically only one I like, and Rouge isnt in Resident Evil. Like Yuffie, Rouge is both an extremely untrustworthy thief and an adventurer-type, so she loses just a ton of points right off the bat (hurr durr).

As far as sexy girls go, Rouge is okay. Aside from obviously being a bat, theres nothing really special about her design. Shes sort of just too archetypal for her own good. I wonder what the breakdown is of sexy waifus vs cute waifus? I suspect most of B8 would lean toward cute waifus, of which Rouge is not one. I wonder what the decision was to make the sexy girl a bat of all things. A bat? A cat I would understand. Whats the most significant cat character in Sonic? Is it Biggs?

Regardless, Rouge not a quality waifu, Im sorry. Shes going to break off the relationship without a word and go on a Chaos Emerald-stealing adventure as soon as the mood strikes her, and theres nothing youll be able to do to persuade her otherwise.

138. Yuffie Kisaragi

Series: Final Fantasy
Nominator: Great_Paul (3/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: Yes
Attractiveness: 52 (112/145)
Personality: 30 (138/145)
Girlfriendness: 41 (100/145)
Overall Waifu Score: 41
Hair: Brown (21/22 remaining)
Eyes: Brown (26/27 remaining)
Race: Asian (57/58 remaining)
Age: 15-19 (61/62 remaining)
Medium: Video Game (81/84 remaining)

When I think of Yuffie in the context of waifus, I mostly think of people who bring her up in Tifa vs Aeris debates. Yuffie is in stone annoying friend or maybe annoying little sister territory rather than in waifu territory.

Yuffie is a waifu whose attractiveness varies wildly depending on the rendition, but her worst is in FF7 itself. Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children both make her look better, but I used the FF7 version anyway, because its the one people are most familiar with. FF7s artwork is kind of wonky like that; Tifa (whos also on this list) has the advantage of already appearing in FF7R, so she gets an updated version while Yuffie does not.

Personality, well, shes a really obnoxious thief. And she is a thief. Like everyone else, I like her insults if you recruit her with Tifa or Cid as the player character instead of Cloud (Im impressed someone even thought to add unique dialogue for that), but she just constantly gets into trouble, gets you into trouble, and complains a lot. Theres even a brief moment when she gets a job while youre at a beach town, then if you go back, the guy she was working for mentions his stuff got stolen. Can you imagine trying to deal with that? Yuffie only simmers down after you save her life from a scummy fat pimp who hangs her upside-down on a Buddha statue, which, Id like to believe most waifus will reach the wont steal from you point before things reach that point.

Girlfriendness is a mixed bag. Yuffie is the first member of royalty on the list (Im counting her as a princess, even if she technically isnt, because her father rules the country), but shes also an adventurer, and even more specifically a thief. We know she spends much of her time hiding in forests waiting to ambush travelers, which is a major detriment.

Look, Yuffie has some significant strengths as a waifu, but her mischievous personality and choice of profession sabotage them. Aside from Jenova, shes easily the weakest waifu in her game.

Attractiveness: 51 (112/145 tie)
Personality: 48 (105/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 15 (140/145 tie)

Hair: Unclear (0/1 remaining)
Eyes: Unclear (0/1 remaining)
Race: Robot (0/1 remaining)
Age: Unclear (3/5 remaining)
Medium: Video Game (82/84 remaining)

Was this a nomination just to see how Id handle a character who doesnt have a human body and is just a robot? Because if so, I dont really know what to think of that.

I was very uncertain of how to handle Brays attractiveness score. Apparently, she used to be human, and judging by her sister, looked fairly normal. But then she turned into a robot that still looks humanoid except for having a face that I cant really describe. Ill be honest: its not a bad face. She also has excellent fashion sense for a mysterious traveler wardrobe. If I need to travel through the Sahara Desert or something and look like Im on an adventure, shell know exactly how to help me out.

Personality, I was torn with again. Shes brave and noble, which is good, but from what I could find, answers every other question with a vague statement, or is otherwise super evasive when talking about anything important. You just know thats going to get annoying really fast.

Girlfriendness is what really tanks her. Shes not just an adventurer, shes also a time-traveling alternate dimension adventurer who never has time (har har) to do anything except save the universe. There is just no way a relationship with this woman is going to work.

Sorry, Elizabeth Bray. Good person, but clearly a subpar waifu.

Medium: Anime (37/38 remaining)

Eliza Faust is a difficult waifu to really rank. On the one hand, shes a trained nurse, loving happy, and smart. On the other hand, she died and was resurrected as a semi-sentient animated corpse. Eventually she reaches a point where her soul can be called, but Im not going to lie, this is all a huge dealbreaker for me. Also, she apparently cant talk, or can only barely talk (saying only one line after she dies). Thats also something of a hit against her. Call me old-fashioned, but I like my waifus able to, yknow, communicate. Add to that that the style this art is drawn is just kind of ugly, and a waifu who really could have hit the upper half of the list is knocked way, way below where she probably deserves to be.

Eyes: Yellow (7/9 remaining)
Race: Animal (1/2 remaining)
Age: Unclear (4/5 remaining)
Medium: Cartoon (6/9 remaining)

If I had a category for most random waifu nominations, Fang would probably win. Not just an animal, but a T-Rex, at that. Are dinosaurs the most done animal type for movies? Has there been a single good dinosaur movie since Jurassic Park?

Anyway, Fang. As far as T-Rexes go, fairly sexy. Which is to say, not tremendously sexy overall. I do like her stripe patterns, but the distinct lack of feathers signals to me that theres something wrong with her.

She makes up for this a lot with personality. Caring, loyal, and brave, which are all good qualities in a waifu and a person. Normally Im not super into revenge, but when she goes for revenge after her children are murdered, well, okay, thats reasonable.

Girlfriendness is a mixed bag. I imagine most of Fangs time is going to be spent prowling the jungle for prey, which is something Im not going to be able to really connect with her on. Shes also too tall and wide to fit into most doors. On the other hand, shes clearly a hard worker and very dedicated to what she thinks is important, so a relationship is probably still possible.

Overall, I think the inherent difficulties in forming a meaningful emotional connection between a large, bipedal carnivore and a typical urban human is going to doom this relationship before it starts, sorry.

Girlfriendness: 44 (96/145 tie)

Before I go on, I want to say this: it took my until I was in my thirties to realize that in the Warner Brothers and their sister Dot, Dots name referred to the period in Warner Bros.

So, Dots got the same problem that basically any classic cartoon character would have: theyre all really annoying. As a character meant to entertain, she does her job well, but can you imagine being around this person for more than one minute? Even ignoring the physical abuse shed put you through, imagine being with someone who thinks its witty to respond to every single thing you say with some kind of comeback or sarcastic quip. It would be like dating Iron Man or Bugs Bunny. Dot would be the most intolerable girlfriend ever. I know people like that, and its only caused my ability to deal with that kind of constant quippage to go down over time.

This is to say nothing of what Dot actually does with her time: she runs around the Warner Bros. lot and causes mayhem. Now, I already live in LA, so this is actually not a problem for me as far as location goes, that place is like twenty minutes from me. But this is just going to be nonstop trouble. And hey, Ill just say it: sometimes you want space, sometimes you dont want your girlfriend right up in your face 100% of the time, and Dot has a provable history of being locked out of a place and then just appearing in it with cartoon physics.

Personal Familiarity: Yes
Attractiveness: 59 (91/145 tie)
Personality: 24 (143/145)
Girlfriendness: 11 (144/145)
Overall Waifu Score: 31.3

Eyes: Brown (26/27 remaining)
Race: White (60/61 remaining)
Age: 20-29 (57/58 remaining)
Medium: Film (2/3 remaining)

Elaine Parks (I keep wanting to write Benes) has the dubious honor of being both our first human and our first live-action waifu to drop. She also has the less dubious honor of being one of the few waifus I went and watched an entire movie for for this list for others, I watched an episode or looked up some clips, but I actually watched this movie.

I guess this is subjective, but its my list, so Im going to say it: any girl whose primary method of making money involves murdering her husbands is not the ideal waifu. Add to that how her main method of finding new boyfriends involves cursing them with magic and drugging them, and how she deals with rejection by stabbing you to death and just imagining shes having a wedding, and I am sad to say that shes low-tier in both personality and girlfriendness. As a character, she has sympathetic qualities, and as a film, I get what the movie is trying to say, but I guess one of the things Im looking for in a waifu specifically is an unstated agreement not to murder me with a ceremonial Satanic blade, and Elaine just doesnt meet that minimum requirement.

Also, and again this is subjective, I think the character is less attractive than the normal actress? Elaine is always wearing this heavy blue eyeliner, but the normal actress looks better without it. Tell me Im wrong.

Personal Familiarity: No
Attractiveness: 2 (145/145)
Personality: 10 (144/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 71 (36/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 27.6/100
Hair: Gray
Eyes: Yellow
Race: Eldritch Monster
Age: Unclear
Medium: Video Game
Mother Brain is a classic bomb to drop into a waifu topic, and with good reason. Theres no way youd ever have a villain like this in a modern kid show. How did this show even get made? Like, really, no company today would loan out their IPs like late 80s Nintendo did.

Well, as far as looks go, I gave her a 2/100, on the grounds that there might theoretically be someone uglier out there, though I dont know who it could be. Everything about her is designed to be hideous, including the jaundiced eyes, super thin eyelashes, weird, wavy mouth, and hole where a nose should be. And lets not forget how she doesnt actually have a head, just a face. Shes so ugly that she shatters mirrors by looking at them. Thats canon.

Personality-wise, again, shes just the worst. Shes extraordinarily evil, wants to take over the universe, is cruel, mean-spirited, impatient, and extremely stupid. How can she stand these people? And her voice sounds like a middle-aged man doing an impression of a Disney villainess, which is what is actually the case.

However, Mother Brain makes up a lot for this in Girlfriendness. If you could somehow tolerate all of her many other flaws, and the fact that she doesnt have a body, shes the head of the Forces of Chaos, a big organization that can threaten the entire universe. Shes clearly loaded, shes got a huge castle with a billion servants, including Doctor Wily, and the one episode of Captain N Ive watched did not have act especially demanding toward her boyfriend, so yeah, shes surprisingly on-point here.

Overall, Mother Brain has one strength, but a million weaknesses. That strength is actually pretty good, and it gives her the edge over Jynx, but in the end, Im afraid its still not enough to propel her above an F in waifu status.

And so, the much fought-after position of last place goes to none other than...

145. Jynx

Nominator: WarTheNemesis2
Personal Familiarity: Yes
Attractiveness: 12 (142/145)
Personality: 30 (137/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 33 (120/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 25/100
Every big project topic like this always has a few people gunning for last place. Some of the entries surprised me, while others did not. Jynx falls into the category of surprised me, but probably shouldnt have. There are pokewaifus that probably would have done alright in this topic due to the triple ranking system, like Gardevoir or Lilligant, but Jynx is certainly not one of them.

Lets talk about her looks, first. Lets even interpret her design with the most generous lens possible and just assume its a gyaru thing. Can I just say that gyaru is like the ugliest fashion? Any waifu whos into gyaru is getting a penalty. Anyway, Jynx is comically short, kind of fat, and has no nose. I didnt realize before how much I value noses in my waifus. Krillin would be a terrible waifu for this reason.

Personality-wise, nope. Again, shes into gyaru and causing minor international controversies, which are not qualities I look for in a waifu. But even ignoring that, just look at her abilities. Oblivious? Dry Skin? Forewarn? First of all, if youre a waifu, and youre explicitly oblivious, youd better be the cute type of oblivious, which Jynx is not. Permanent dry skin? No thanks. And forewarn? I do not need my waifu to constantly get updates on what my moveset is, thats going to be nothing but trouble.

Even Jynxs Girlfriendness score is low. She can go into a pokeball, which is a neat party trick and lets you fit one more person into a car, but thats worth like two points, maximum. Samus somehow didnt get nominated, but if she had, that wouldnt be a big boost to her, either. The most damning issues for Jynx are that, according to the Pokedex, she speaks a language thats incomprehensible even among pokemon, and she can force people to dance by wiggling her hips at them. Combine that with being an ice-type, so she probably has an uncomfortably low body temperature, and this is just asking for trouble. And lets not even talk about the possibility of Smoochum in the future.

Overall, Jynx is an extremely weak waifu. Possibly not the worst out there, but definitely the worst nominated for this topic.

There will be unmarked spoilers ahead for the series of any waifu in question. I will only include spoilers from that waifu's series in her write-up, so if you see a waifu from a series you want to experience later, you can just abort when you see her name.

It's finally time for all of your favorite waifus, and all of your favorite obscure joke nominations, to be unfairly judged by someone familiar with like 50% of them, tops. Waifus will be judged by taking the average of three categories, labeled Waifu Vectors. Using this extremely scientific method, we can finally settle once and for all what Board 8's best waifu is. I should warn you, however, that this method of analysis means that the majority of waifus have scores in the 40-70 range, and only a very few are at the extremes. Let me be clear: this 1-100 scale is not meant to map to a letter grading system. Waifus with scores of 70+ would be 8/10 at the least in a normal system, and waifus with 77+ are like 9/10s or even 10/10s.
  • Attractiveness: The simplest vector, this determines how physically attractive a waifu is. Little warning, I do account for the visual style of the series, so a waifu from a series with really ugly art is going to suffer for it.
  • Personality: This vector determines how non-evil the waifu is, how good she is at conversation, etc.
  • Girlfriendness: This vector is to determine what being in a relationship with the waifu would actually be like. Waifus with an actual job have a huge advantage over waifus who are like adventurers or something.
I'm not gonna lie to you guys: I've done research for waifus whose series I don't know, but waifus I already knew had a nontrivial advantage in every category except looks.

The full list of waifu nominations can be found here.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_hmACUjrmkaCqVMpgVQymzYH_ra__psryHWHa6kC-WA/edit?usp=sharing

I told all of this to you in the nominations topic... What I didn't tell you is that I was also secretly tallying the physical attributes of nominated waifus. Using these numbers, we can finally determine what kinds of waifus Board 8 prefers!

Medium
Video Game: 84
Anime/Manga: 38
Cartoon: 9
Comic: 3
Film: 3
Television: 3
Card Game: 2
Advertisement: 1
Analysis: No surprises here, Board 8 loves its video games and weeaboo pictures.

Reality
Not Live-Action: 140
Live-Action: 5
Analysis: Poor live-action waifus are clearly underappreciated. And one of them is Mothra, which is really pushing the definition of live-action.

Age
<15: 10
15-19: 62
20-29: 58
30-39: 5
40-49: 2
50-59: 1
Unclear: 5
Analysis: Almost exactly half of the nominated waifus are underage... something you want to tell me, Board 8? By the way, if a waifu didn't have an official age, I just guessed. Immortal waifus were counted as the age they appear, so if your waifu is a thousand years old but looks sixteen, that's what I counted her as.

Race / Species
Human:
White: 61
Asian: 58
Latino: 3
Arab: 2
Indian: 1
White or Asian depending on localization: 2
Analysis: More like racistfaqs, am I right? Just to be clear, if you have an ambiguous anime ethnicity but have a Japanese name, then I counted you as Asian for list purposes. I also counted things that aren't human but still look human as being human except for pokemon, which I counted as furries.

Nonhuman:
Furry: 9
Animal: 2
Alien: 1
Vegetation: 1
Eldritch Monster: 1
Robot: 1
Unclear: 1
Analysis: I was surprised by how many furry nominations we got.

Eyes
Blue: 43
Brown: 27
Green: 22
Red: 11
Black: 9
Yellow: 9
Purple: 8
Gray: 5
Pink: 3
Heterochromia: 1
White: 1
Unclear: 1
Analysis: Not much to take away from this. except that red and yellow eyes show up much more often than I expected.

Hair
Blonde: 26
Red: 24
Brown: 22
Black: 19
Purple: 12
Blue: 7
Green: 7
Pink: 6
White: 6
None: 3
Silver: 3
Yellow: 2
Gray: 1
Unclear: 1
Analysis: It is shocking how common red hair is in fiction relative to reality. If you were an alien whose only exposure to Earth is stuff we beamed into space, you'd think redheads are at least 20% of the planet.

-----

The actual ranking of waifus will begin whenever I feel like it, probably later today.

what

there is no minigame in Morrowind. It's a stats based dice roll vs the level of the lock. That's also why it's the best because lockpicking games are dumb and I would rather savescum and just hammer my head against a locked door until it opens

You're thinking of Skyrim I bet.
Could be!

I thought we were trying to improve the surviving cast....
I stand by the idea that Hiyoko could have been interesting if she'd had a complete character arc where she learns to be a better person, which seems like the path they were going with before she died. As it stands, her big moment happens after she's already dead and they find her picture. That could've been interesting in itself, where she learns what she really looks like.

Fuyuhiko was supposed to die in case 3, but they realized at the last second that that would make Peko's sacrifice meaningless, so they changed it to Hiyoko, which is why her death comes out of nowhere, isn't explained very well, and has no real meaning.

Hajime and Fuyuhiko are good survivors. Kazuichi is fine, he serves a purpose as the normal guy and as the technology guy for the latter half. Sonia's job is to be a red herring spy by acting suspicious in chapter 5, but otherwise she does nothing of value. Akane does nothing ever. If you're going to replace someone, you replace one of those two. Personally, I'd probably replace one of them with Hiyoko.

It's a miracle ZE3 was ever made. I think it got saved by a fan campaign? And even though it got made the budget was hilariously low. Like, they had one character in a jacket in concept art then had to remove the jacket from the character model when animating the actual game to reduce costs.
I actually just read this, and it sounds hilarious.

How did you like the characters, Anagram?
I'm a bit torn. ZE1's characters are a bit more grounded (I got worried when an Egyptian pharaoh with a boob ring, a guy in a robot suit, and a girl dressed like Pebbles Flintstone showed up), but that's not automatically a good thing... but I think in this case, it might be a good thing. With Danganronpa, I said that the second game had better individual characters, but the first game had a better cast chemistry. With Zero Escape, ehhh, I don't know. The chemistry between Junpei and Akane is really strong, Snake is fun, and I like Ace as this just slimy villain who doesn't have any kind of grand plan and is just improvising, but Seven, Santa, Lotus, Clover are kind of boring and weak and don't add a lot to the narrative. The second game integrates its cast into the story more competently, and the characters are more solid (I'd say Alice and Clover are the weakest -- Alice being from the first game is not important in any way), but I don't know. ZE1 also has the advantage of wrapping up its major plot points and character arcs, while ZE2 makes no attempt to do that, so the ZE1 cast also feels more complete.

So to answer your question, I guess I might like ZE1's cast more, but they have a ton of advantages due to the structure of the game.

Immediate Postgame Impressions:
Ace > Snake > Akane > Luna > Phi > Sigma > Tenmyouji > Junpei > K > Seven > Dio > Alice > Santa > Quark > Clover > Lotus

I'd say you can give your thought about this game before playing the next one

Because the next one is so different, you might end up mixing emotions.
Sure.
  • Gameplay: There's really nothing to say regarding gameplay? The puzzle stuff is basically the same thing in both games. I guess I remember more puzzles from the second game than the first, but that could just be because I played it afterward. As far as the AA-DR-ZE triangle goes, I guess AA is the least game-y of them, but ZE feels the least game-y, and the most pure VN-y.
  • Story: I knew immediately that the scale of what was happening had increased massively, which I don't think I like. ZE1 was just this small story about exposing a corrupt corporate guy and saving a little girl, while ZE2 is about like alternate timelines and saving the world? It's hard to really discuss the story because I know it's not over yet, so I don't think I can tackle it directly. I just want to say that the whole "you were on the moon the whole time lol" element had better be important in ZE3, because aside from being a crazy plot twist, it matters very little in ZE2. I get that it disguises that you have Radical-6, but there are a million ways to write that that don't involve the moon. This is like ZE1, where the fact that you're on a replica of the Titanic and there's all this crazy Titanic lore basically does not matter, but the game certainly seems to think it does.
  • Atmosphere: It's strange how ZE has the most outlandish ideas of the AA-DR-ZE triangle, but it feels the most grounded. AA's premise is "you're a lawyer," DR's is "teenagers in a murder game," and ZE's involves like timelines and psychic powers, but it's presented in such a way that it feels completely normal, which is very interesting, and I think a major benefit to the series. The first thing that happens in DR is a robot bear launching a guy into space so that his body explodes when it hits the ground and bones are left, but the actual plot of that game is way less crazy than ZE's. One thing I don't approve of is how the game dropped the anime art for 3D models; I think the classic anime art really gave the first game a feeling the second game completely lacks.
  • I guess I need to take back what I said about ZE not feeling much like AA or DR. It feels a lot more like DR after this game.

  • Sigma time travels back to the virus destroying the world in 2029, and apparently is watching a crappy TV from what looks like 1960. Who owns this hipster TV?
  • "You must master genetic engineering and artificial intelligence programming, among other disciplines." Not only that, he has to do it on the moon without the benefit of a university.
  • Sigma, bro, look. You've been having this whole conversation with Akane, there's no way it took you this look to realize you had Terminator robot arms and an eyepatch. Speaking of which, I'm glad to see prosthetics evolve so much in the next nine years.
  • "Go look at the mushroom cloud from the nuke that dropped one second ago."
  • Zip back to the far future
  • Kyle wakes up, but he doesn't FEEL like Kyle. Assuming that clones let you inhabit their bodies or whatever, I'd been thinking this for a while because there was no other obvious reason to include clones in the game. But I'm not sure it's Sigma, because Kyle has a normal voice instead of text beeps.
  • Tenmyouji, I get your philosophical argument against changing the past, but the world was blown up. I agree that things accomplished under hardship still have value, but like six billion people are dead, man.
  • You know, I just realized that Sigma should be the same age as Snake.
  • So who is the person inside of Kyle, if it's not Sigma? "Don't play dumb," Akane says. Is it the player as a concept? Japanese games love that kind of meta twist.
  • So I actually had to PM paratroopa to ask where I go next because nothing new opened up in the flowchart, and he was like "that's the end of the game, the rest is in the next game, which for a while people thought might not even happen." This goes beyond mere sequel bait or non-endings; I legitimately did not even realize the game was over. They must have known what they were doing, right? The ending even says "ENDING ALTERNATIVE," like you got an alternate or bad ending. I'm halfway between saying that's unforgivable and applauding the sheer audacity.
I was planning to give my thoughts about this game compared to the first one, but I guess now I really can't because the story is incomplete. I don't have time to play a third game, though, so I guess I'll make a new topic for it at some point in 2021? I'm sorry, I just can't believe this game ends like that. I can't even post my questions about the game's story because they might be answered in the next game! So, this playthrough will end as abruptly as the game itself does.

  • I like how the game made a huge deal out of Dio stealing Akane's bracelet, but her character model while talking doesn't have the bracelet.
  • Are we really saying that Akane tied a key to Sigma's ankle at the start of the game, and Sigma never noticed? Like, the key isn't even taped on there, it's on a string. That key is absolutely hitting his ankle as he runs around.
  • Sigma, seriously, stop asking the girls to wear swimsuits, Alice's boob ring exposes more than a swimsuit would anyway.
  • Game, I'll accept that we're on the moon, and that Radical-6 made us not notice the gravity thing, all of that is very clever, but your explanation doesn't cover how everyone should notice things weighing less. And I have a hard time believing that no one has jumped at any point except Phi.
  • "Let me begin at the beginning."
  • Oh no Sigma is old who could have predicted thisssssss although I didn't expect him to have a robot eye. Man, he looks pretty okay for 67. Especially his arm, which is funny because the game's close-ups on peoples' arms specifically show Tenmyouji's as being old.
  • "He was to be your spare if something happened to you," dude, didn't you just say that you grabbed Alice, Clover, Tenmyouji, and Quark because you knew they had to be here for time shenanigans? Yet you didn't know for sure that Sigma would survive?
  • So Radical-6 also makes you able to stay up for 36 hours without getting tired? Fine.
  • I'm gonna have some questions about how these alternate timelines work re: changing the past after I beat the game, but for now I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and assume it will make sense later.

  • Go back to the rightmost route that I'm sure will be the Phi end.
  • Sigma says he wouldn't mind some swimsuit time with the girls, dude, Clover is wearing maybe 15% more than a bikini as it is.
  • The mysterious Q room. I was going to make a Star Trek joke, but then the room is just a big white space like Star Trek Q once took Picard to after he "died," so... I don't know if this counts as a reference or not? Probably not.
  • So the room is all white, and my companions here are Phi and Tenmyouji. If Sigma also has white hair from being old, then everyone here will have had white hair. Coincidence???? Probably.
  • Actually, in the other timelines, the other characters must have seen this room, but none of them were ever like "lol did you see that room that was like that one episode of Spongebob?" I would probably talk about this room more than I talked about the Director's Room or whatever, is all.
  • Yeah, see Tenmyouji recognizes Akane immediately even though it's been 50 years since they met.
  • Ha, I KNEW the flowchart would reorganize to put something in the front of it rather than the end. I should've called that, though. Oh well.
