  • Go back and jump this time. It sent me back to the team select screen. For one moment, I thought the game was pulling another ZE2, where there is no real ending.
  • Delta's like "lol humanity's doomed anyway," everyone is like "whatever, we'll change things," and he's like "lol that's what I wanted you to do." Honestly, I feel like you could have solved this whole issue more easily by killing the religious fanatic who started the war that killed everyone. And don't say that he didn't know who it was, he's got mind reading powers. And don't say that he needed to be born; in this history (where he and Phi clearly exist), he was never born.
  • Delta says "okay here's a gun, shoot me if you want," and I don't get to make the decision, we just cut to unskippable credits, which means they're the real credits this time.
  • Like, is no one going to address Mira being an insane murderer? She cut a guy's heart out of his chest and ate it while orgasming. This is significantly worse than the equivalent character in Danganronpa.
  • Dammit, I missed the achievement for getting all quest files. I did this in the other game, too, but I didn't even realize you could miss quest files in this game.

Okay, finally done (I assume). I will post my thoughts on the game and the series in my next post.

  • Load up Final Decision, the last unlocked fragment. Everyone gets together and now knows the truth. If everyone now remembers the other histories, shouldn't they be like "Oh jeez it's Mira the serial killer, I'd better be scared of her?"
  • I refuse to believe that pretending to rape Akane was the easiest way to whisper into her ear. "It would look suspicious otherwise." Wouldn't you acting completely out of character be even more suspicious?
  • So I guess any time when Delta was dead, we were just seeing genuine third-person perspective, such as the timeline when he was born, and it was indistinguishable from his first person perspective? Because... you know what, I'll talk about the Delta twist after I'm done with the game.
  • Game, I was willing to go with you on "shifting" and "transporting," but "mind hack" is a step too far. Is he going to give an explanation for why he can mind hack?
  • Oh no, it's a 125 year-old man threatening to shoot a shotgun with one hand.
  • I'm sorry, are we going to get an explanation for why Sigma is still alive at 125 and looks like he's only 70? Don't say super science, he was "born" with pre-WWI technology.
  • Yeah, *now* someone says "November 16, 2019" for when the twins were born.
  • "Phi went from 2029 to 1904 to 2008." Okay, but there had better be an explanation for why the German guy sent her to 2008. Also, wondering when 125 year-old Phi will pop up.
  • "And your little dog, toooooooooooo!" Everyone is so much more upset over Gab's death than they were over the others' deaths.
  • "I'm 125 years old, just got kicked into a wall, and shot in the chest by a shotgun... And it's time to talk some more."
  • "We'll be forcing ourselves into these other bodies, and they'll die without knowing why." Junpei, you have done this several times already. Carlos in particular has doomed God-knows-how-many versions of himself just to get this far, and you blew up that one reality where Phi was still alive. I'm sorry, but if there's an ethical dilemma here, you guys have already long ago made your decisions.
  • Chose the "don't jump" option to get it out of the way, will do the rest later.

The only good thing about the Delta reveal is that on numerous occasions (usually the person who does the betrayal in the initial vote), people talk about how they felt like they weren't in control of their own actions. It seems like this is just referencing the player (as this series isn't above that), but presumably it was actually Delta doing it.
Actually, wait, wasn't it only the leader who's supposed to be able to press the button on the computer? Because I remember the announcer saying the leader has to push it, and no one ever argues with that idea, but it's Sean who presses it now that I think about it.

  • Load up Force Quit C, Carlos pretends to rape Akane to bait Junpei into attacking him, and then he proposes a drink to "clean the slate between us." I'm sorry, am I just not paying close enough attention to know what's going on here?
  • Load up the next fragment, Eric is still holding everyone hostage with a shotgun.
  • Botch the "Who is Zero" question on purpose to see what happens. Eric kills everyone. Hey, uh, Sigma, you do know that Eric just shot twice with a shotgun that only holds two shells, right? I ask because you look like you could easily take Eric in a fistfight.
  • Q points to the screen and yells it's Delta. So the plot twist is that the third person perspective of the game all along has just been the first person perspective of a guy wearing sunglasses that connect into the cameras, and no one ever referenced him until just now, and everyone knew the kid's name was Sean all along? Are we to assume that any time Mira escaped, Delta was just there, watching? Because, I mean, if Q Team had four members the entire time, why was no one asking about that? And where was Delta's fake wheelchair when he was pulled out of a pod by Sigma and Diana? Or if he was outside of the pod all along... oh forget it.
  • This image of Sean with all of the cables coming out of his neck is hilarious.
  • Delta reveals that he can control Eric's actions, and ends the history by killing everyone except Diana, then saying "mom."
  • Game, why are you making me input the helmet numbers again, just to reach this point I have to have already done it once.
  • Oh jeez, was Mira chosen because she has no emotions and thus couldn't ever go between histories because shift requires danger? God, if that's the case, then I feel ashamed for not thinking of that until just now.

  • Load up the newest C Team fragment, Apocalypse. Junpei and Akane are in the new dimension without Carlos, who says he'll meet them there.
  • *Junpei looks at a bunch of rocks burying the exit* "Why is it completely buried in sand?"
  • Zero shows up in a recording and says "lol Radical-6 got out, everyone is doomed."
  • Yeah, I'd figured out Zero was Brother a while ago, I should've written that down. Just trust me on this.
  • I dunno, Zero, I feel like there's a step below "kill 8 billion people" besides "kill 6 billion people."
  • Zero, you could make a way stronger argument by pointing out how Akane and Junpei kept sacrificing alternate dimension versions of themselves in order to keep going, just saying.
  • Jesus Christ, Sigma, you transported your kids to 1904? I know you had to do it pre-2009 because Zero gets it afterward, but 1904? I assume we'll get an explanation for why Phi isn't 125 years old later. I hope that this game's convoluted logic will somehow work in how 125 is the square of 5.
  • Can you even really threaten someone with being imprisoned for the rest of their lives if they can shift to other timelines?
  • A coaster labeled "Anagram?" How did they knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
  • I honestly can't believe that they modeled Carlos in a firefighter outfit. Junpei and Akane are like "Carlos, dude, why didn't you transport far enough back in time to stop Zero's plan, we're very upset with you." You had literally the exact same chance he did.
  • Oh damn, I have to take back my earlier complaint that Junpei died in the timeline where Radical-6 escapes and appears in the future. I'm actually quite impressed they thought of that.
  • I mean, okay, this explains how Akane and Junpei are still around in the future, but shouldn't Phi be like "oh damn Junpei Tenmyouji, I thought you exploded, glad to see you're still alive."

  • This Door of Truth code is the most obtuse code in the entire series so far. You have to notice that it's the same door from the other side and that that side of the door has "twins' birthday" written on it and you have to know the birthday of the twins in baby ending. I rewatched the baby ending and couldn't find that, so I finally just looked it up, sue me. If anyone ever says "November 16" in that ending, I must be blind and deaf.
  • Sigma and Diana go through into the pod room and find Eric and Q... but Mira is dead! Dun dun dun.
  • "I'll leave Eric, an ice cream clerk, to try to revive Mira." -- Diana, professional nurse.
  • In the other pods are everyone else's bodies except Carlos, and Phi's head exploded from the earlier execution.
  • Everyone meets up, Eric says "I'm gonna shoot everyone if no one admits to killing Mira. Diana points out how they're from another dimension and couldn't have killed his Mira, but Eric's like "it's more likely that you're lying about that and are some kind of fakes," and honestly, it's hard to dispute that.
  • "Even if I did kill Akane, it wasn't what I did right now!"
  • Oh my goddddd it's all a holodeck. Oh my double goddddd it's Monokuma's funhouse. But seriously, this had better be actually important and not just another "you're on the mooooooooon" plot twist.
  • "Your left hand..." "I'll explain later." I, uh, I think that's pretty straightforward, there, Eric.
  • Did it really take this long for someone to think of putting something between the bracelet and your wrist? The second game went out of its way to include a file saying you can't do that and explaining why. I realize that was the second game, but give me a break, that's like the first thing anyone would think of trying.
  • A recording of Zero is like "lol I'm on Q Team." That fits with Zero appearing in the universe where Mira opened the door and was the only survivor.
  • Man, Carlos just has zero ethical concerns about shifting to other timelines and leaving the other Carloses to die in his place. Akane even went out of her way to explain that that's what he's doing, too.

  • Went back to the Mexican standoff and entered Delta, expecting it to be Q killing himself. Instead he flips around, says sorry, shoots the screen, and someone, presumably Delta, dies in first person, and Mira and Eric are just like "Of all your choices, you shot him?" I feel like there should be more surprise at what seems like a non-canon ending. Clearly means Delta is either the player or Zero, or both.
  • Still don't know how to find the stupid code for the Door of Truth.

  • Assuming Delta is Zero. If we're really lucky, someone will bring up how delta is used in math to represent change.
  • Onto the force quit box that opens with mothers' mementoes.
  • Diana suddenly knows her relation to Phi. I get how Sigma also remembers that, but how does Phi?
  • Is it weird to be the 25 year-old mother of a 22 year-old?
  • Wait, that section just ends with them hugging? This was not represented as being so abrupt, dammit.
  • Got stuck again, checked a guide, it seems to imply that the baby ending gives you the 8 digit code to get through the door as Sigma and Diana, but I couldn't find anything like that.

  • Carlos travels to the universe where he killed Akane with an axe.
  • Man, Carlos really likes talking to himself.
  • "Twins' birthday. I'd better check Mira's body." If this is an elongated boob joke, I'll be impressed.
  • Then back to Sigma and Diana after they're stranded in the reality where Phi is dead and the game is already over. Sigma says "well, I can shift, so I'll just leave." Haha, no he doesn't, he says they have to wait ten months for the transporter to recharge.
  • "I truly wish that's true."
  • I actually kind of like these scenes of Diana and Sigma killing time.
  • Diana pulls out Luna's blue bird music box from the second game, and Sigma clearly didn't know she had it. But didn't she have it during the time you spent with her on the moon, and passed it on to Luna?
  • "Nothing's changed, it's all the same! The same scenery, the same can every day." This series just can't stop predicting Covid, huh?
  • Diana used to be married? She looks like she's 25.
  • Oh my God, Diana's voice actress doesn't know how to act drunk at all. This is like in Stranger Things s2 when what's-her-face does the worst drunk acting of all time.
  • Huh, didn't expect them to actually have sex. I mean, if you were trapped for ten months with someone and had nothing else to do, yes, you'd probably spend that time boning everywhere, I was actually going to make that joke. Probably you wouldn't have sex in an alien transporter pod, and then put your clothes back on after sex so the animators wouldn't have to model naked people.
  • Three months later, their clothes are still in pristine condition. I don't remember a laundry machine, dammit.
  • Diana gives birth to twins, and the babies' faces are just a complete JPEG nightmare. Wait a second, if they only had enough food to barely scrape by for ten months, and Diana was pregoh whatever.
  • Okay, Sigma's bracelet is appearing and disappearing between shots, I wasn't certain before, but I am now.
  • Sigma says "let's transport the babies into another dimension before 2009 when there's still food, but I guess this only copies them so the two of us will still see our children starve to death here, but I won't mention that because it's depressing."
  • If you're a woman, and your husband says he wants to name your daughter after his dead girlfriend, how angry are you? I mean, yes, I can see that baby Phi is going to turn out to be our Phi, which is weird because Sigma in the second game kept hitting on her, but Diana doesn't know that.
  • Diana, how about you put a warning letter in the transport pod that explaoh whatever.
  • Baby End get.

  • Finally figured out my issues and was able to progress. Turns out I hadn't unlocked all of the executions, which made me unable to access one of C Team's fragments.
  • Phi, just before their heads explode: "Sigma, let's jump." Man, really leaving another Sigma and Phi holding the bag, there, huh.
  • Junpei nooo why would you hit betray so predictably
  • I mean, in a way, this ending does resolve things, right? Now that I think about it, it's only that one ending where Phi is injected that the world is destroyed, otherwise, Sigma and Phi do technically succeed.
  • "There's a Japanese saying: Assume everyone you meet is a thief. It means you should never trust strangers too easily." Jeez, thanks, Junpei. I could have never puzzled out your superior Japanese sayings for myself.
  • Go back and hit betray, but this time Junpei allies, and it's a repeat of the second game when Sigma's like 'what the crap, Alice?' Getting predictable, game.
  • "Does this mean that I've somehow been avoiding the paths leading to death?" *Is immediately killed by Akane*
  • And now there's another path available from the AB game. The magical blue ghost comes down again and enters Carlos just before they play the AB Game.
  • "Let's dance around referencing Back to the Future by name."
  • I mean, okay, game, if there are multiple worlds that branch off from decisions, that's cool, but then why even bother stopping Radical-6 from getting out when it won't affect your timeline? In fact, why was Tenmyouji against changing the past if that's the case? Because Tenmyouji clearly thought the future would be erased if you changed the past.
  • Akane, Junpei and you technically didn't shift in the first game, you just sent messages to each other about puzzle video games. It was like reading a GameFAQs walkthrough to someone over the phone.
  • Jesus Christ, Akane, you blowing up the reactor might make you shift, but you're dooming the other Junpei, Akane, and Carlos, and this universe's Phi.
  • "Junpei, put your hand on my boobs."
  • Wow, these gatling guns sure are taking their time shooting this time. And didn't those guns easily shoot through a wooden bar? I feel like that's tougher than two human bodies.
  • Wow, really leaving the other dimensions' Junpei and Carlos to die, huh? Like... at least the first time you did this on purpose, you chose a dimension where they were already doomed. That other dimension's Junpei, Carlos, and Akane just finished celebrating how they survived the dice roll.
  • The X-Passes don't work, oh nooooooo
  • Carlos, if a robot can punch a hole in steel, you, Akane, and Junpei are not surviving a punch each.

  • I appreciate the stupidity of this dice rolling vs gatling gun game.
  • MAKE YOUR DECISION: ROLL THE DICE. You are using an unacceptably broad definition of "decision," game.
  • Oh my God, they animated Carlos jumping over a bar.
  • Get the triple snake eyes on the third try, doing nothing special at all. Later, Akane's like "maybe in reality we threw the dice many times," and then she's like "lol humans exist despite it being unlikely maybe that means GOD???"
  • Another lockkkk
  • Okay, I've completed all of the non-locked paths that don't require an input of some kind. Now I need one of: the fourth way to resolve the Mexican standoff, the code to the door Sigma and Diana find, the name of Mira's killer, the code to activate the fancy computer, or the solution to a box puzzle. Probably gonna have to fool around with these for a while.

  • Start the pantry, Junpei is missing. Akane and Carlos have a whole conversation about how much she loves Junpei, but I already know this is in the part of the flowchart where Junpei is dead.
  • These "fake limbs" had better actually be fake and not Junpei's limbs, or else Carlos is an idiot for not being able to tell the difference between fake and real.
  • Figuring out to reverse the potato code to open a door took me an embarrassingly long time.
  • Open the pantry door, and it's Junpei's head! Who could have ever expected thisssss
  • Akane that is not how you use a chainsaw on a wooden door, it would just break the chainsaw.
  • Carlos has a flashback that says he needs 500000 dollars to save his sister. Do firefighters have medical insurance? I have to believe they do, and medical insurance usually applies to family members you're the guardian of.
  • Akane, look, I understand the idea of turning off the lights to ambush Carlos. But you have a chainsaw, that's possibly the single loudest weapon in existence.
  • Carlos kills himself because maybe he did kill Junpei.
  • Go back, Akane cuts off Carlos' hand, he kills her in response. Dude, you need to do something about that arm stump.

Did he? It's been too long for me to remember specifics like that.
Everyone died in that route except D Team and Mira, and Mira died a minute later anyway.

  • Went back and chose the initial door I chose again, which didn't work. Took three tries total to get the mask.
  • I'm actually shocked that Junpei and Carlos put the mask on Akane, I thought I'd get another dramatic choice.
  • Skip ahead, and Akane leaves through the X-door.
  • Do the infirmary next. Is it just me, or are these puzzles of wildly different difficulty? Sometimes they take way longer to figure out than other times.
  • Akane, I understand that you didn't have time to tell Carlos and Junpei your sample licking strategy at the time, but you then had three minutes, right? So, you falling unconscious earlier than the others shouldn't be an issue.
  • You know, a lot of the choices are just kind of stupid? A lot of the time, it's justthat you immediately die if you don't do what's obvious. I like when the choices feel more like proper choices with meaningful consequences.
  • Akane: "Carlos, Junpei, grab the antidote and go to the lounge!" She then grabs the antidotes herself and runs to the lounge.
  • Did the C Team force quit box next, but it requires another password I don't have.

  • Hahahahaha oh my god I didn't expect Q to not have a head, that's ****ing hysterical.
  • Went back and put "Sean" in the Mexican standoff when it asked me to input Q's name when I'd put Q, but it still gave me an error code. Went back and put the 8-digit number Zero gave me into both Q's computer route and the door route from D Team, but it didn't work either time. Well, those were disappointments!

  • Decide I'll at least start C Team with the shower. Junpei's like "I now have a dark backstory that's about one year old and I'm a totally different person than I was in the first game."
  • We open the X door, but this time, a magical blue energy swirl descends from the ceiling, and Carlos says he promised in another history to save them. Junpei is like "what nonsense," and it's like, dude, you've been through this before. Twice, technically.
  • This apparently opened up a new fragment in D and Q Teams. I do the Q Team route first, but it requires another 8-digit code I don't have. Next, I do the D Team route, but you need to guess two key items that are mothers' mementos. I know one must be Phi's pin thing, but I don't know its name, dammit.
  • At some point, I don't know when, a lock opened up on the D Team route where Sigma wants to disarm the bomb by himself. He succeeds, but loses his arms, and also an eye. And, indeed, everyone else is dead except Mira. Although, I notice Kid never has blood when he dies. For revenge, Mira injects Phi with Radical-6. Phi is like "Diana, kill me so Radical-6 doesn't escape," and Diana says "No, I'd rather send you up to the surface and doom humanity because I'm acting completely irrationally."
  • They go up to the surface, and we get that one recording from the previous game in real time. Diana phrases things to be as ambiguous and misleading as possible, claiming to have killed six people and six-billion people. I mean, okay, but no one would ever phrase things this way except to tie into the previous game because there was already a recording you had to go with.
  • Akane in the second game was pretty explicit that Sigma and Phi did not know what they'd find in the bunker. I mean, okay, fine, I realize that Sigma's and Phi's consciousnesses are from the future, but surely he could, like, write a note to himself that says "dude here's what happened in the bunker, be prepared," then switch back, or something like that. And like, the ways things were presented in the second game, Phi just showed up to the Akane's and Sigma's party in 2029 and demanded to be let in, and they didn't really know her except that they knew she'd be important. And Phi has Radical-6 right now? I guess she could survive, the game mentioned that there was a 25% survival rate, but then she just gets reinfected in the future of the second game? Because she could not have been infected all along throughout 2029, right? Because my impression was that Sigma and Phi went back in time to alter things, and here Sigma is like "dammit this is the timeline that produces the second game," which assumes a closed time loop where Sigma and Phi were always responsible via time travel, which is not how the second game presented things at all. Am I just not galaxy-brained enough to understand this game's plot?
  • I just realized how Mira's face and torso are a different color than her legs.
  • D-End get.
  • Go back and do the gun choice again, but this time the bullet is a blank. Is it truly just random?
  • Sigma survives, but shortly thereafter, everyone starts dying of poison. Akane sends antidotes via the dog, but is it really from Carlos? Phi says "Carlos might be trying to kill us with a fake antidote lol," but I mean... that would mean that he's either responsible for the initial poisoning, in which case why poison you twice, or he knew that you'd be nonlethally poisoned and sent this to finish you off. I expect explanations later!
  • I choose not to drink it, but then it turns out that the poison in our veins is real poison, and we all die. Good work, Diana, I'm blaming you for this.

There are no prereqs to get the other ending here. You should be able to come up with it.
I sure hope not.

  • I wonder what the significance of these images of each character is. Junpei is a zombie, Akane has cat ears, Carlos and Diana look normal, Phi is an I don't even know what, Diana is a weird doll, Sigma is a nutcracker, Eric is a baby, and Kid is a Russian nesting doll?
  • Junpei's head again, and Carlos killing himself.
  • I love how Eric has a grenade launcher in a Mexican standoff five inches away from his target.
  • "Who will you kill?" Enter myself. "YOU CANNOT COMMIT SUICIDE." Jerks. Enter Akane. "YOU CANNOT GET TO WARD C." Enter Gab. "HE IS NOT HERE." Enter Zero. "DO NOT KNOW IDENTITY." Enter Junpei. "THE DEAD CANNOT BE KILLED." Stop giving me the option to type things in if you're not going to respect my wishes, game!
  • Choose no one, Eric fires the grenade at pointblank range. Even though the game made a huge deal earlier of how the grenades are especially powerful and should not be fired except from a great range, Kid's body is only lightly toasted, and the others are uninjured. Three days later, Mira kills Eric, presumably.
  • Next, I kill Eric. Mira's like "I don't understand emotions lol whatever oh also I'm the serial killer."
  • And that's the Q End.
  • Tried to kill Mira next, but Eric jumps in front of the crossbow. Mira's angry that Kid destroyed his heart and gives me a bad ending.
  • Tried to kill Q next, but when I input Q, it says "PLEASE INPUT Q'S NAME." I try Quark, and it says Error. So I go and dig up Eric's brother's name and input Chris, but that's also an error, as was Christopher, so I have to leave a route undone.

  • You know, can't you just scar yourself? To keep information through the amnesia drugs?
  • Eric and Kid wake up in the Pod Room, sans Mira.
  • For a game that normally has some pretty obtuse puzzles, these sliding block puzzles are about as hard as the block puzzle in Deltarune.
  • "We can do anything with a gun!"
  • Mira is in a pod, which was spoiled by the image on the fragment. Oh no, her pupils are gone, that means she's either blind or dead.
  • Oh no, Junpei's head, and a video of Carlos murdering Akane.
  • Don't think I haven't noticed how you've slipped previous games' characters' names into the X-passes, game.
  • Took some guesses on "who killed Mira?" Tried Carlos, Zero, Eric, You, Mira, Gab, Diana, Akane, Sigma, Me, Trap, and Player, none of which worked, but at least I got a bunch of unique dialogue. I don't know if I'm supposed to be able to answer this yet, so I just move on.

  • "Either virus kills you, but if you're infected by both, they cancel each other out." I don't know if science works that way, Zero.
  • This is the second worst version of Luke Skywalker I've seen since 2019.
  • Kid starts talking about how your genetic switches can be flipped and express themselves in your kids if you're put in danger, so that way you can force psychic powers to happen. Because it's well-known that like soldiers and stuff have kids who have psychic powers, right?
  • Oh my God, Eric has a crouching animation, but not an animation to crouch, so the screen had to go black between him standing and crouching.
  • Eric shares his tragic backstory, and says that his younger brother is the same age as Kid. Then Mira's like "lol stab you to death with a tiny scalpel at butt-height in the back, which totally kills you in one hit." Then everything ends with her laughing like a maniac, and it's in the same part of the flowchart as the mystery woman stabbing D Team to death. I wonder who the mystery woman could possibly beeeee

  • And onto Q team. This time, they're the ones in the acid shower. Can I just say, this is a really weird way to structure a game? It's so much weirder than the other two games.
  • I wonder if anyone's going to die. No one actually died for real in the first two games besides the three evil corporate guys in ZE1. This game appears to have a couple in each group plus one extra person who's the leader. Eric is a huge tool, and Mira is a weird unknown. She's got probably the highest chance of anyone of being Zero, but Eric has a small chance of playing the long con.
  • "It'd be a good idea to have a murderer on the crew!" Eric, I didn't forget about the serial killer mention earlier. I don't think it's you, but it's probably someone. Probably Mira, Carlos, or Kid.
  • You know, guys, it's clear that there's some space below the showerheads you could stand where the acid wouldn't hit you. You'd probably still die from the fumes, but I'm just saying.
  • I just tried doing Eric's standing animation, where he pushes his hands into his armpits. That's super uncomfortable.
  • "Sometimes, you can't even remember something from a month ago." Man, this series just can't stop predicting Covid, can it?
  • Kid is like "I can't leave the dog behind, I must trap myself in this facility forever."
  • "We'll have to wake up to find out if we're alive or not." How philosophical.

  • Load up another fragment named Fire, and it's the Trash Disposal Room. And Phi is gone again! Man, she's gone a lot. Oh wait, she's just on the other side of a glass wall.
  • Does "I've got a bad feeling about this" automatically count as a Star Wars reference in all instances? I'm not sure.
  • You know, Diana, you could just put an object between the gun barrel and Sigma's head.
  • "Why? Why did you do it?!" Phi, you know literally the exact reason why she did it, you were standing ten feet away when it happened. Then Diana kills herself out of guilt, I can only assume for the purpose of allowing some other group to hear that two of us are dead in the flowchart.
  • Extremely long flashback to before the game started. Phi asks Diana to give her a hug, and for a moment, I thought there was going to be a super dramatic HUG / DON'T HUG screen.
  • Oh hey, this is actually placed in the flowchart before that part where Phi is gone, cool.
  • And with that, all D Team fragments are complete, except two locked ones and several paths that have locks I can't deal with right now. Do I do C Team or Q Team next? Who knowssssss but probably I'll do Q.

  • Load up a fragment named Outbreak, D-Team's looking at some robots on the wall. Good thing the Mars mission base has a robot manufacturing room. Wow, an I Drink Your Milkshake reference. In 2016? Even then, that was dated. This robot room is the lamest of the two puzzle rooms so far.
  • Sigma's like "I lived together with a woman named D in the future, who do you think it could be, Diana? Anyway, she died, so I made a robot in her image named Luna. On an unrelated note, Diana is the Roman goddess of the moon, which is named Luna. Maybe that comes across as subtler to a Japanese audience, I don't know. 11037."
  • Phi, why do you think using a bomb you know nothing about is a good idea? Last game, you were like "Dude, those antimatter bombs are the strongest thing ever, we should be careful," you know **** all about this bomb here.
  • I don't remember Phi being this sassy in the last game.
  • I refuse to believe that a hazmat suit Diana can fit into could also fit Sigma.
  • Uh-oh, a lock. First one of the game!
  • Jeez, Diana, you'd have been in time to stop the bomb if you just hadn't wasted time asking Phi to get out of there.
  • Next fragment: Transporter. Phi's gone, and it's after midnight.
  • You know, this amnesia drug concept is acceptable when the game is set in 2077, but in 2028, I don't know. I guess I forgave it in Danganronpa, though.
  • "In 1888, German researchers found an alien transporter device in Antarctica," what am I listening to right now? At least the Titanic actually did have have sister ships. This had better be expanded upon with like aliens being a part of the game or something instead of just being a cheap plot device to avoid explaining how it was built.
  • The announcement says everyone's dead except us and Akane, Sigma's like "okay fine, I'll use the transporter to transfer us to a reality where Phi exists."
  • Man, Diana's logic for destroying the transporter in the "don't use it" route makes no sense. It's not even an instance where she's like "I did something I don't understand," she actually justifies it this time.
  • Use the pods, do the first option of timeline, Sigma's like "well why aren't we in another dimension right now," dude, you KNOW that the pods only replicate things. And then another lock! This game loves locks.
  • Oh jeez, the next timeline is called Door of Truth. Will it have a puzzle? I don't knowwwwww!
  • We explore the new dimension, only to find that our team was executed in it. Or was it? I feel like we'd find more than just bloodstains, I feel like there'd probably be enough body to tell who's dead.
  • And it is a puzzle after all!
  • "Fully submerge the power supply in water to reset." Don't try this at home, kids.
  • We find a door that requires an 8-digit number. Am I supposed to know what it is yet? I hope not, because I press back.

I never minded the low budget. I like the art style of the character designs (which I also like) and it's not exactly a series I played for its amazing cinematic vision - VLR honestly felt worse than ZTD in this respect

Although it's funny that I'm pretty sure they based a major recurring plot point around a budget limitation
I'm just joking around, I don't really care about the budget.

MysteriousStan posted...
Yeah I didn't even notice the low budget while playing lol. Just kind of assumed it was them going with a different style again like they did with VLR.

Attractiveness: 40 (133/145 tie)
Personality: 55 (80/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 42 (101/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 45.6
Hair: White (4/6 remaining)

Race: Furry (6/9 remaining)
Age: 15-19 (57/62 remaining)
Medium: Anime (33/38 remaining)

Our second white hair waifu to drop, and its another furry. Is there a whole world of furry media I dont know about? Like, shows that are ostensibly about one thing, but are really just a pretense for furry characters to go around being furries, not like Sonic or Star Fox where the furry fans are organic, and non-furries just dont know anything about these shows and video games. Im not judging if thats the case, Im just curious. Its just, I dont know, furry characters and wholesome characters who gain furry fans just have this subtle difference I can pick up on most of the time. You look at Undertale, and Muffet doesnt ping my furry radar, but So Sorry absolutely does. Similarly, Haru pings my radar, and I dont quite know why.

Sorry, Haru fans, but I guess I never realized before how important normal human-esque hair is to me in a waifu for attractiveness purposes. Call me crazy, but I guess thats the way it goes. It doesnt help that she has realistic black rabbit eyes, which, thats a nope from me.

Personality looks like a win. Oh, shes a bit sullen because people called her a slut? How completely reasonable. Otherwise, she comes off as pleasant and honest, which seems like a win to me? As far as main love interest waifus go (and I can tell shes the main love interest just based on her design, somehow), she seems solid.

Girlfriendness takes a bit of a dive. Her skill is gardening? Thats like a fine hobby or whatever, but it better not be what she wants to do for a living.

Im sorry. Im trying to imagine how Haru would do if she was a generic human waifu, and if Im being honest, I think shed probably be doing a bit better. Not a huge amount, but theres nothing intrinsically wrong with her as a waifu, and yet my ranking system has put her here. More power to you, Haru fans.

  • Choose a fragment in the medical room, oh my god, an actual puzzle room. I was beginning to think this was legitimately just a VN.
  • I cannot believe you can't look around with ASDW.
  • Lining up a wineglass and pitcher full of water against a sky backdrop produces a green tetris piece in the background to be photographed? Game, you're usually better than this.
  • This is the most intense "do you press the button" sequence of all time.
  • Sigma describes three times he should have died as a kid and shifted to another dimension to escape, and, like, dude, I went through my entire childhood without dying once.
  • "All teams should've survived without dying." Sigma went to the "people die when they are killed" school of describing things.
  • Jesus Christ, you guys are super casual about Phi disappearing.
  • Suddenly, a cloaked figure appears and stabs Sigma while Diana escapes. Sigma dies while talking about Diana being Luna, and sad music plays. The sadness of the scene is damaged slightly by how difficult it is to understand what's happening, though.
  • Diana accuses Phi of being the murderer based on pretty much zero evidence. Then she runs away, and Phi shows up stabbed in the back, and helpfully explains that "it was the killer."
  • Diana puts the X-passes into the computer, but someone stabs her. It's clearly a girl, so Mira, Akane, or Phi faking having been dead, or maybe it's old Akane, or who knows.
  • I swear to God, if the dog is the mastermind.
  • Go back and press the button, everything immediately explodes. Well, that was refreshingly abrupt.

  • I do one of D-Team's fragments, named First Come, First Saved, choosing it solely because it looks like the shortest one. Is this in the timeline where C-Team's heads exploded? No clue!
  • Oh wait, Phi and Sigma argue about what Diana voted for, and Diana is like "lol I don't remember."
  • "Even if I explained, it's highly likely you wouldn't understand. The things Sigma and I have been through are complicated and mysterious." Is it possible to be a time travel hipster? Phi has the glasses for it.
  • Okay, Jesus Christ, game, you cannot have Phi explain what happened in the previous game to new players at this completely random point.
  • "Press the button to shoot acid at the other teams." Sigma, I appreciate that you want to save Phi and Diana by pressing the button, but you're twice their size. You don't have explain anything, you can just push Diana aside when she tells you not to.
  • Do both paths, and Diana is like "I don't know why I pushed the button lol." Phi's like "lol jumps" and Sigma's like "impossible even though that's easily possible and I've personally experienced it before."
  • Okay, look, I have completely lost track of how the flowchart and fragment systems work in this game. Now I can only choose one option off of Team D. And it consists of the other teams screaming as acid kills them, then Phi philosophizing about two minds in a brain.
  • As we try to leave the facility, Diana's body freaks out and she refuses to go. Or was it a freakout, or her being possessed? It's legitimately hard to tell because of the bad animation in this game.
  • Zero is like "lol multiple personalities, here's a bad ending achievement."

  • I go back and vote for C-team, and Sigma and Phi are like "Diana, why'd you vote for C-team," and when she says she doesn't know, Sigma is like "what are you talking about?" Sigma, you're one of the four people in the universe who would know exactly what she's talking about. Also, I like how they didn't even animate Diana turning around, she just responds without looking at him.
  • So I finished an entire fragment, and there were no puzzles. Game, I demand convoluted puzzles.
  • Go and do C-team. Ah, the famous Mars conditions replication tests that involve suits of armor in the rec rooms. Imagine shipping a suit of armor to Mars for the ambience. I like how Junpei is like "Akane, use the morphogenetic field" in front of Carlos, and when Carlos is like "what are you talking about?", and then he just shrugs. What is Carlos thinking right now?
  • "Akane and Junpei, you're Japanese, right?" No, they're Italian.
  • "They said they'd give us 500000 if we joined up." Are you talking about the budget of the game?
  • "Let's cut off Junpei's arm!" You know, that is an actual option with these bracelets, I'm surprised no one's ever tried it before.
  • Oh my God, they animated a dog climbing into a vent, I'm actually shocked.
  • It is literally impossible to tell what Carlos' reaction to Junpei's jokes is because his face is so not animated.
  • Finally, I do Q-team. Sexy Girl is named Mira,
  • Kid reveals he has amnesia... maybe.
  • Mira mentions there's a serial killer in the news who might be behind everything. His name... is Genocide Jack. Or Heart Ripper, one of the two.
  • Mira and Luke Skywalker, whose name is apparently Eric, tell Kid about how they were testing to see if you can survive on Mars, and how there was a dog, but no kid. Okay? I still think we're short information about this dog.
  • Kid picks up the box, but I remember Sigma and Phi saying their box was too heavy to lift.
  • Eric, Kid clearly could not fit in that vent even without the helmet.
  • Decent chance that Eric is the mastermind because he's just so stupid.
  • I notice the ceiling windows here are blue, but the ones in the other room were yellow. Dun dun dun?
  • I go back and do both votes. I enjoy C-Team's heads exploding.
  • Oh no, way too many options just opened up, now I don't know what to go with.

  • This is the cheapest cutscene I've ever seen. This is sub-indie game tier, and it's the opening cutscene.
  • Turns out Robot is a kid in a mask, but he looked like a robot in the Steam banner.
  • Someone in a Plague Doctor mask but who's dressed like Akane from the second game shows up.
  • Downcast Girl is called Akane, dun dun dun.
  • Carlos guesses red and gets the coin flip right, and Redhead asks if he's a clairvoyant. I suspect everyone may be really stupid. Plague Doctor needs to put us to sleep, and we all just collapse off-screen while a sound effect plays of something dropping. Could we not get some gas shooting out of the walls or something? That can't be THAT expensive to animate.
  • Oh my god, these cutscenes, people are just standing perfectly still, this is like a joke.
  • Hahahaha, I knew the game was going to end here as a path, that's hilarious.
  • Huh, the save screen only has room for seven endings instead of nine, and they don't appear to be character-named.
  • Oh god, there are three teams: C/red/Carlos, Q/green/kid, and D/blue/Redhead. Well, of these, Redhead is clearly the worst drawn character, so I go with D team. Like, tell me that she's not the most off-model character in this game, she looks nothing like anyone else.
  • Go back in time, choose blue on the coinflip. Luke Skywalker and 18 Guy are super upset at Carlos for guessing wrong, like this is even a remotely reasonable thing to be angry about. Luke Skywalker sure seems to think the kid is responsible for everything because he has a mask on.
  • Plague Doctor tells us that he's the second Zero, and Scruffy Hair Guy is called Junpei. That's Junpei? He really doesn't look like him, but then again, neither does Akane. The only person who looks like themselves is Phi. Junpei screams "Wait, what?!" with no change of expression on his face at all.
  • Plague Doctor says we need six passwords, and get one per person who dies. So, guessing we'll get the passwords on various paths, then time travel to remember that information.
  • The real question is if Kid is Quark. I don't think he could be, because the year given is 2028, but that could easily be a lie, or the first section of the game could have been in 2028, then we all wake up in 2077 after being knocked out, and Kid is replaced by Quark, and it'll be a big plot reveal.
  • Oh, jeez, 18 Guy is Sigma? I love how Phi says to check the underside of a box, so Sigma checks while the camera zooms to the ceiling so they don't have to animate a guy picking up a box.
  • Phi says there are two reasons why Zero would prerecord a message: either he's one of us or he's already dead. Phi, I can think of more reasons than just those.
  • Man, Redhead is sure taking Sigma's claim to be from the future well. This is like in Phoenix Wright when Phoenix tells Athena that he owns a psychic lie detection stone and she's just like 'cool.'
  • A dog shows up, and everyone is like 'oh cool, it's Gab, the dog we all knew about.' You need to establish the existence of a dog before this, game.
  • Game, seriously, if you're going to have characters being knocked unconscious as a frequent, recurrent thing that happens a lot, you really need to make an "everyone falls down" animation and stop just cutting to the ceiling, this is really embarrassing.

Spoilers for all games in the series, obviously.

I said I'd do this after my waifu topic was done, but I guess I lied, I'll just do them concurrently. Try and stop me.

In my last topic, which sort of became a playthrough topic by accident, I discovered that ZE is definitely the weak link in the AA-Danganronpa-ZE triangle, but is still weird and sort of interesting in its own right, even if it relies heavily on plot twists that are sort of nonsensical or are clearly just there for the sake of having a plot twist ("you're on the moooooon"). I also couldn't decide if I hated or loved the ending of the second game, which blew my mind with how much of an ending it wasn't. I also enjoyed how the first game was more of a small-scale story, whereas I didn't so much like the second game being this epic thing about saving the world.

So, the general structure of me doing one of these playthrough topics is me trying to guess all of the plot twists in advance, guessing 20-30% of them right, looking like a doofus when the rest of them are completely wrong, and laughing at weird or silly logic when things happen that don't really make sense.

Just from the title of the game alone, I notice it's not part of the Nonary Games pack. Does that mean we're going in without a convoluted game themed around the number 9? I doubt it, if only because the protagonist is wearing a shirt with an 18 on it. Will this game actually wrap up the plotline of Radical-6, time travel, and Akane from the first two games? We'll see. Based on the Steam banner, I see our team of nine characters: Obvious Protagonist, Luke Skywalker, Robot, Redhead, Sexy Girl, Male Model, Scruffy Hair Man, Downcast Girl, and Glasses Girl. Is Glasses Girl Phi? She looks sort of like Phi. I can't help but notice how they're all young, while the previous games had old people. Anyway, one of them is clearly behind everything, so I'm guessing it's Redhead or Downcast Girl.

Alright, let's actually load up the game now.

I just want to briefly synopsize this game before moving on: its an eroge that takes place in a world where criminals are rehabilitated by being assigned a legal obligation related to their crime. In order to become a Special High Class Individual, you must return to your hometown and rehabilitate three cute girls.

Deciding how to rate Sachi was difficult, but I decided to use the in-game version rather than the presumably rehabilitated version she eventually becomes. Specifically, this is important for exactly the reason you think it would be: her obligation. So, Sachis shtick is that is that, although shes intelligent and energetic, shes also super lazy and wastes all of her free time gambling and racking up a huge debt, so her legal obligation is to take a drug that knocks her out for 12 hours every day. Look, Im obviously okay with my waifus sleeping, but not for twelve hours a day, every day, plus occasional naps.

I watched part of the game on youtube, and yes, there are major good aspects to her personality that mostly cancel out the laziness and bossy attitude. Its good to see that she can buckle down and get serious when she needs to but for her to reach that point, the government has to start threatening to take away her little sister? I feel like you should be able to get serious long before then. And it doesnt really help that part of Sachis appeal is that shes your childhood friend. I dont know if childhood friend as a concept should apply to waifu status?

And shes another painter waifu! What is with waifus and painting? This is not a reliable source of income. Lastly, her games art style doesnt do it for me. I am anti-giant anime eyes, and this game goes all-in with them.

Overall, Sachi seems like a waifu where youd have to be on her ass half the day, every day, and still be worried about her screwing things up a lot.

131. Tammy

Series: Kwirk
Nominator: Raetsel_Lapin (2/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: No
Attractiveness: 30 (140/145)
Personality: 50 (96/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 55 (83/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 45
Hair: Green (5/7 remaining)
Eyes: Blue (40/43 remaining)
Race: Vegetation (0/1 remaining)
Age: 20-29 (53/58 remaining)
Medium: Video Game (77/84 remaining)

And the winner of most obscure waifu goes to Tammy! I was shocked that I was still able to find two pieces of fan art for her, even if theyre horrible.

As far as sapient tomatoes go pretty sexy! Hair, eyelashes, all of the things you think of when you need to establish that an object or animal is a girl. If only she had a bow. By the way, heres my only story that involves tomatoes. Years ago, I was going to Subway, and asked my sister if she wanted anything. She insisted on writing down her order, telling me that it was too complicated to remember, and spent like five minutes tracking down a piece of paper and pen while I complained that I could remember a sandwich order. Finally, she gave me a slip of paper that said wheat tuna + tomatos, with tomatoes misspelled like that.

Personality-wise, the only information Ive been able to find about Tammy is that she knows how to wave. She also knows how to smile. So far, so good!

Girlfriendness, well, her only defining personality trait is that she is a girlfriend. I would give her more points for that, but since shes a tomato, she probably wont want me eating things with ketchup. Thats not a dealbreaker, I can just avoid cheeseburgers and fries while around her, but its a minor deduction.

Overall Not the worst waifu, but far from the best.

132. Misato Katsuragi

Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Nominator: changmas (3/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: Yes
Attractiveness: 65 (66/145 tie)
Personality: 35 (136/145)
Girlfriendness: 30 (126/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 44.6
Hair: Purple (10/12 remaining)
Eyes: Brown (25/27 remaining)
Race: Asian (53/58 remaining)
Age: 20-29 (54/58 remaining)
Medium: Anime (34/38 remaining)

So, NGE is one of the few anime I have actually watched to completion. Ill just say it: pretty much every character in it is a horribly broken mess of a person, so much so that any relationship with one is doomed from the start. But Misato in particular is probably the most broken and the most doomed.

Like, shes got an important military job, and shes good at it, which is all fine, but shes an alcoholic, insanely jealous when the boy she likes looks at another girl, and when she fails to take care of a teenage boy, tries to start a relationship with him. So, basically her one skill is military stuff, and shes just a complete disaster zone outside of that.

Im sorry, but theres zero chance any kind of relationship with Misato is ever going to work. The show wanted to create a cast of people with severe psychological problems, and it succeeded.

By the way, yes, I am aware that her canon hair color is black, and it just appears purple for visual purposes, but I didnt accept that with Terra and I dont accept it here.

133. Rin Tezuka

Series: Katawa Shoujo
Nominator: Mac Arrowny (2/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: No
Attractiveness: 38 (136/145)
Personality: 44 (113/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 48 (93/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 43.3
Hair: Red (23/24 remaining)
Eyes: Green (19/22 remaining)
Race: Asian (54/58 remaining)
Age: 15-19 (59/62 remaining)
Medium: Video Game (78/84 remaining)

So, this is the first two Rins, and five waifus with Rin in their name, to drop. Ive never played Katawa Shoujo (though, just to be clear, I fall into the pure VNs arent really video games elitism crowd, sorry), but Im obviously aware of it. Is it the most bizarre thing ever that some guys from 4chan got together and actually designed and finished a VN? Like, it was so unlikely and weird that I made sure to look up for this writeup that they were indeed from 4chan, and it wasnt just a coincidence that the name of the studio is Four Leaf.

I hate to say this, because I know its awful, but this character just made me feel like Kramer in that one episode of Seinfeld, where hes like my girlfriend has everything I ever wanted in a woman except the ability to walk, except that Rin is also lacking other non-disability things youd find in an ideal waifu.

So, Rins disability is obviously that she doesnt have arms, and I feel like this is going to be a hard topic to attack, so Ill just say it right off: thats got to be like the biggest and most difficult disability ever. Like, no driving, no moving furniture, and no cooking, which are three things Id expect to find in most ideal waifus. And dont tell me she can use her feet as hands. Im happy to do some of the cooking myself, but theres no way Im eating foot-cooked food.

As far as personality goes, shes pleasant, but she speaks in a really I dont know what word to use. Buffy-ish manner? Where she doesnt use many complicated words and relies on weird ways to describe things (There are some not-things. Unthings. I dont think thats a word), and where she has difficulty describing her thoughts. I mean, shes pleasant and everything, but trying to communicate with and understand her is definitely going to be as much of a problem as her actual disability.

And to add to all of this, Rins goal is to be an artist, which is maybe the most unreliable job in the world. Its made even worse by the fact that she gets so into it that she can forget to eat or sleep, and that she has to do a lot of things with her mouth? Which, I have to believe thats going to mean everything needs to be cleaned all the time.

Sorry, Rin. Its not fair for your waifu ranking to be almost entirely determined by the whole arm thing, but thats the way it goes.

134. Imai Nobume

Series: Gitama
Nominator: LordoftheMorons (3/4 remaining)
Personal Familiarity: No
Attractiveness: 58 (117/145 tie)
Personality: 40 (121/145 tie)
Girlfriendness: 40 (102/145 tie)
Overall Waifu Score: 42.6
Hair: Blue (6/7 remaining)
Eyes: Red (10/11 remaining)
Race: Asian (55/58 remaining)
Age: 15-19 (60/62 remaining)
Medium: Anime (35/38 remaining)

I guess this is where Im going to have to reveal one of my personal waifu tastes, and if you disagree, thats fine: Im not super into the super graceful perfect feminine trope? That shows up a lot in anime stuff, and while Nobume isnt a pure example of that, she definitely gives off those vibes, right up to doing that anime thing where you constantly sheathe and unsheathe a sword during a fight. By the way, under a section labeled Strong Points in her Wiki page, the only words are loves donuts.

Personality is a mixed bag. I like the sense of loyalty and justice, I dislike the fake emotionlessness. Theres exactly one emotionless girl on this list whos going to get positive points for it, and its not this one. I also appreciate how shell avoid fulfilling some orders she disagrees with, thats always good. But her default solution to most problems appears to involve swords? Im just gonna say it: very few problems can be solved with swords, unless youre willing to go all-in, in which case the solution might be worse than the original problem itself.

Girlfriendness is again a super mixed bag. Ex-assassin is bad, but then she becomesthe police chief at age 18? Okay, anime. But either way, shes violently insane around donuts. Thats gonna be an issue. I mean, yes, its easy to get donuts to mollify her, but random people often just run around with donuts, and no one wants to deal with her going nuts as she sees them.

Look Im willing to accept that Nobume might be super engaging in the actual anime itself, but as a non-anime watcher, she comes across as an extremely dubious waifu. Thats something I shouldve done: I shouldve made tiers with each one having a different name, and the not-the-lowest tier should have been named Dubious Waifu. Oh well.
