And in regards to the violence, apparently the scene in which Two Face teaches Riddler to punch out a guy (which results in Riddler hurting his hand) was slightly longer and featured Riddler beating the guy with his staff.

Thanks for the info on the deleted scenes. It would have been nice if the Robin training scene had been left in.

I think it would have been pretty disappointing to see Riddler beat up a cop with his staff, then get taken out by Batman without a fight. Then again, Joker never used his acid spraying flower against Batman. Nor did Penguin use his flame-throwing umbrella.

The 80s/90s series had a real issue with giving the bad guys memorable weapons and then not having them use them against Batman. It actually kinda makes me regret not seeing the Riddler continue the pattern.

And he used his brains to invest in these spectacular overhead lights, but didn't think to hire security or build a protective barrier around the bright green overhead target which his brain is linked up to.

I think Batman Returns also didnt have Batman fight anyone in the finale? Catwoman kills Shrek, then Penguin dies (I forget how).

The fight between Batman and Penguin is so brief and so convoluted that I genuinely forgot it even took place.

I saw the movie twice in the theater as a child. (On a side note, Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman was my first crush.) The way I remembered the ending, Batman fatally wounded the Penguin after crashing his mini-submarine into the penguin's lair.

When I watched the movie again as an adult, it legitimately felt like I was watching a deleted scene. I had no memory of the Penguin choking Batman from behind or any of the brief encounter which followed.

I really liked the first one. The second one was fun, but felt smaller in scale.

To paraphrase a video game magazine from back in the day, "The programmers went all out in designing the levels, then followed them up with throwaway boss fights."

That about sums it up. Some of the characters from the first game are absent, some of the boss fights are downgraded to character cameos, and the main villain of the second game is the henchman of the first game's boss.

There's greater variety in gameplay, and it's still fun overall, but it just doesn't have the scale and scope of the first game. But then I guess I never really saw eye to eye with Shiny in that regard. The ending of the first game shows that the programmers didn't really care about the video gaming tropes and expectations as long as the end result was fun and weird, weird, weird...

I have to wonder if the final showdown had scenes cut or reordered. Batman Forever's final cut was not what Schumacher intended; the original cut of the movie was supposedly darker, more violent, and more serious than what we got in theaters despite (according to Michael Keaton anyway) Schumacher wanting to reduce the dark tone after the first two films.

I was not aware of that.

In an early fight scene, Batman knocks one of Two-Face's henchmen into an electrical outlet resulting in a comedic sound effect. I wonder if the henchman's garbled noises were added in post-production to mute the violence of the scene.

Ultimately, there's really no showdown. Riddler talks to Batman. Batman throws a boomerang into the Riddler's machine. That's it. There aren't even any henchmen to be fought despite Two-Face having henchmen earlier in the film.

Instead, all we get is a rehash of the first movie in which Batman saves someone from falling. But this time it's different because he rescues two people instead of one.

I appreciate that trope in which the hero realizes that defending the ones they care about means more than self-preservation, or simply getting the bad guys, but that card is best played when it comes on the heels of a big action sequence earlier in the film. When Batman saved Vicki Vale from falling in the first movie, it was after defeating the Joker and his henchmen.

Two-Face does eventually come out and point a gun at Batman, but even that is treated like an afterthought rather than a primary confrontation. Batman throws some coins and Two-Face falls trying to catch them. Role those credits and play that Seal song! ("IIII've beeeen kissedbyarose from the grave!")

I hate to speak favorably about Batman & Robin, but at least that one remembered to have a showdown between Batman and Mr. Freeze.

Sorry, I don't watch football. A lot of movies have a Trump stand-in as their villain or a group of Maga types are their bad guys.

I don't mind seeing Trump get eaten by a velociraptor, but I'm not interested in watching a show where the hero goes toe to toe with white supremacists in red hats either.

I'm not offended, mind you. It's just "I hate the same people as you do," is not a selling point for me. I'm more of an "I'm entertained by the same things you are," type of guy.

It also doesn't help that I usually find the villain to be the most entertaining character and that I don't find Trump and his cult particularly interesting. It's like taking a movie where the heroes fight Nazis and asking, "What if the Nazis were all rednecks instead?" I don't know about you, but I'd much rather see an Indiana Jones type punch out a Nazi officer than Billy Bob who loves fishin' and hates inclusion.

Not really.

Politics are like vegetables. A little bit of veggies on a sandwich or on the side is fine. Replacing my hamburger with a salad or my pepperoni pizza a veggie pizza? Not fine.

I dislike Trump. But that doesn't mean I feel like wholesale forfeiting entertainment for the greater good of reminding people what's really important.

Also, too much politics in film and media is self-defeating. After a while, it gets written off as propaganda and begins to galvanize the party its meant to knock the air out of.

My big Vs Bowser achievement -- same game, Super Mario 64 -- was beating Bowser with a broken joystick.

My joystick was so poorly operational that I couldn't perform a long distance swing. In the first two fights, I had to lure Bowser close to the bomb to throw him into it. In the third fight, Bowser causing the breakaway meant that you had to do a long distance swing. So, inevitably, I lost.

Later, I went back and tried again knowing that my joystick would not allow a greater volume swing and that I should expect the same results. But... I found a way to beat him. By holding the joystick in one direction and manipulating the camera, I was able to build enough momentum in spite of the broken joystick and launch him into the bomb for the final victory.

I haven't played Super Mario 64 since, but I have since purchased a controller with a functional joystick.

I enjoyed the movie for about eight minutes, then they implied that bigots were bad people. I can't believe Twilight Zone would be political like that! :v

The movie was pretty good. At least three out of the four stories were legit. They probably should've swapped the second and third segments so that the audience could have two good stories in a row before catching a bathroom break during the nursing home segment. (Sorry, Mr. Spielberg.) I'm not sure if I like the first segment or the fourth the best. They're both great in different ways.

Also, I now want to believe that every character Dan Aykroyd plays is secretly his character from Twilight Zone the movie. That "really scary" trick he pulled off is one he can do in real life.

Does it really increase sales among female gamers?

Marvel did the whole pixie cuts and grrl power promotion and it didn't increase their readership any. I remember one comic author for the company being disheartened when she discovered that, upon questioning, most of the people reposting empowering comic panels admitted to not personally reading comics.

If the women of tumblr and Reddit are the most likely to buy video games, then go ahead and include them in the video games. But if they're not the women most likely to buy video games, why punish the rest of us with eyesore haircuts? I'd much rather have a tomboy, a Goth, a geek (I mean that term affectionately), a muscle queen, or a gamer gurl than somebody with an eyesore haircut as a playable character.

That, or at least be consistent. For every woman with a tumblr cut, have one dude with a mullet. Let's be consistent in our freedom of expression. If I can rock my "business in the front, party in the back" look, then you can have your "freedom on the side, no maintenance in the back" look.
