I plugged in my Ninja Gaiden Trilogy cartridge a few days ago. It took six tries to get it to work. I purchased the game before the artificial inflation that has since rocked retro gaming, but for a moment I was worried it wasn't going to come on at all.

I couldn't imagine purchasing a cartridge that's $100+ only to come home one day and find that it had stopped working. I could afford a copy of Little Samson or Clayfighter 63 & 1/2: Sculptor's Cut if I wanted to, but I'd have no guarantee that it would work indefinitely. Nor could I really bring myself to justify paying that kind of money even if it did work.

On a side note, I completed the three Ninja Gaiden games. The first one took five hours, the second one took three hours, the last one took two hours. It was my third time beating the second and third games in the series. I'm not sure how many times I've beaten the first one.

As pro-female as Disney is, they lack a credible female action star outside of the MCU. Mulan could've been that action hero. But all anybody cares about is the damn dragon. I guess it's to be expected.

Maybe the live action version of Brave will be good. And maybe Merida will actually do something in the story this time besides cause all of the problems.

Rogue One, Solo, and The Mandalorian have all been great. The sequel trilogy is really their only fuck-up. I'm optimistic for Star Wars now as long as they just stay the hell away from the Skywalker Saga. Which of course should be no issue, since it's over.

That's like saying the entree was the only bad part of the meal. And Rogue One was terrible on account of the last act.

Lemme just say Jyn Erso is who should've been the protagonist of the sequel trilogy, not a one-off in a side quest. Rey is as bland as dirt.

And how about that forced diversity on television? Season 2 of G.I. Joe is adding two more black characters and Jem and the Holograms is adding a girl from Mexico. Those shows were already diverse. Mushu took the focus away from Mulan and might've stepped on a few tails here and there. (He wasn't popular in China.) Mulan purported itself to be the first Disney adventure with a female lead, but it really was an Eddie Murphy vehicle first and foremost.

I get the disappointment, but it really is for the best that Mulan be allowed to star in her own movie.

It's good to encourage diversity. It's silly to say, "You must be this diverse to qualify for best picture."

That said, the Oscars gave Shakespeare in Love the Best Picture nod over Saving Private Ryan. They are by no means a measurement of quality. For the past three decades, they've been about what lets them pat themselves on the back.

I never played the Crash Bandicoot games, but this is hilariously PC.

Let's take a sultry character and reintroduce her as an alternate universe variant who is a lesbian, has a smaller bust, and is the hero of her universe.

Disney/Marvel likes this sort of thing. Maybe we could get a Spider-Jane Watson where she has hair like Janine from Ghostbusters and comes from a world where she's stronger than Hulk and constantly rescues her aromantic friend Peter Soy.

It might sound like a backhanded compliment, but it's easily the best story of any game on the NES. The ending would have to be altered ever so slightly though. The part where Ryu says he's already received the first part of his payment, sounds a little rapey. At least Irene is okay with the situation.

I never played the modern version. I don't like the way they turned Ryu into Ninja Batman and made Irene Lew look like a stripper. It's like, yeah, she had a figure in the original version, but she was a tough government agent and not a goth with implants.

Sure, I hate it when articles generalize white people. I'm annoyed when they label "whites" as lower case, then capitalize every other Ethnicity.

But for shit's sake, let's focus on the actual issue here. There is a serious loophole which allows Native American women to be attacked. Never mind the politics that go into the finger pointing. This issue is more serious than some website's apparent bias on the matter.

I was surprised Bethesda tried to do something with the subject in Fallout 3.

It's easy to do so long as it's not race based. The example I used in the first post was taken from the animated Dungeons and Dragons series.

Like, a fantasy world has ogres putting humans to slavery in a scenario reminiscent of the Roman Empire? I haven't watched or read a lot of fantasy material lately. I'm curious if that's still common or if that's been written off as taboo.

While I think it would be creatively limiting to say that slavery is a taboo subject for fiction, I would at least understand where people are coming from. I'm glad that rape as a backstory is no longer a thing in comics and the like.

You know how movies are converted into video games? Backgrounds that appear in one scene become levels, standalone opponents become recurring enemies, blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments become video game mechanics. If you want to turn a video game into a movie, just work backwards.

I just finished watching The Lion King for the umpteenth time and I couldn't help but think of the Sega/SNES game. In the musical number I Just Can't Wait (to Be King), young Simba hops along giraffe heads for a few seconds before riding an ostrich for about twenty seconds of screentime. These become gameplay mechanics which take up entire sections of levels. The monkeys and leopard which appear in the opening montage become enemies in the game. Simba's overhead swat which he performs against the final hyena becomes a primary attack in the later stages of the video game when Simba is an adult.

If you were to make a movie out of, say, Super Mario, you'd need only to work in reverse. Monty Mole and Buzzy Beetle appear in the background, but never fight Mario. Mario kicking a Koopa shell into a pack of oncoming Goombas is a technique he performs one time in order to create distance between himself and his pursuers. Wiggler sneaks up behind Mario only to be eaten by Yoshi. The rest would need only follow the basic mechanics of storytelling: make the characters interesting and have one scene connect to another in a natural progression.

Remakes and continuations are a mistake. Authors shouldn't get a second chance to revise their own work with the benefit of decades of hindsight.

Wearing a face mask in public, keeping six feet of distance, and using sanitizer to ensure the safety of others is a reasonable expectation. Placing oneself under house arrest for nine months to two years is not.

I still say it's about pay.

You pay poorly, you get people who show up late and take the dress code into consideration. You pay well, you can fire people for any offense you feel like. Police are the most extreme case because they're literally allowed to kill.
