Because her primary role in the story is being Lucy's close friend. You could change her ethnicity without it affecting the story. I know British society of the 1800s was slightly less racist than America at the time, but I still doubt if it would be period authentic to change Dr. Seward or Professor Van Helsing's ethnicity.

Taking into account character occupation and social standing in the time and location in which the story is set, those are the characters most likely to be Black. However, I could see right-wingers getting mad about "forced diversity" and left-wingers getting mad about the fact that pretty much all Black characters are killed over the course of the story. Dr. Seward's assistant would be an original character created for the sole purpose of having a Black survivor. (Though there is a similar character in the 1931 movie named Martin.)

One could argue that the story could be updated to be set in contemporary times, but then it's no longer an adaptation of Bram Stoker's original story. It becomes like Dracula 1972 A.D. or Dracula 2000. And that's not the best fit for the character of Count Dracula. It'd be like setting Robin Hood in modern times.

No, they both did.

Trump's strategy was simply to badger Biden and not let him talk. When Biden did talk, he didn't sound all that much more put together than Trump. He made one or two good points (which is more than Trump), but this is a lesser of two evils election if I ever saw one. I hope President Biden steps down after a few months in office.
