B8NFLL Hall of Fame Ballot

The following posts will contain players and their career accomplishments up for immortalization. From a pool of 22 players, I narrowed it down to a final list of 15. There is no way for me to find out a player's career ranks within B8NFLL, so when it comes to stats, I will provide where they rank in a particular stat (possibly even by a particular position) among active and recently retired players at the moment of their retirement (aka now).

I originally had a hardline stance of only considering players who debuted in the inaugural season or later and incumbent players whose career stat line showed no production entering the inaugural season (mostly OL). I immediately made one exception to include Tatum Bell who holds the record for most rushing yards in a season and whose stats pre-B8NFLL were clearly laid out and were in line with what I read online. There were only a few other players like Bell that I would have considered to make an exception for, but I have decided to scrap that idea, and will continue with my original thought, so unfortunately players such as Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren won't be on the ballot.

Participation is of course voluntary, and you can post your responses, PM them to me, DM me on Discord, discuss or whatever. You decide what your criteria for selection is. You can base it solely off of the context of B8NFLL, compare to real life stats, or some marriage of the two. We had a decent turnout last season, but given how active participation in the league has its ups and valleys, I don't think that I will have a specific target percentage of Yes votes that will ensure enshrinement. It will of course be north of 50% at the very least.

I am currently updating the sheet some, but I want to inform everyone that Jets LT Jake Long is demanding a trade in case anyone was interested.

He is 30, 87 overall, and before being relegated to a backup last season, he was coming off of two seasons where he posted 85 blocks against 4 sacks allowed. He has three years left on his deal with total salary left to be paid of just $11.95 mil across those three seasons.

If anyone is interested, feel free to shoot me a PM or DM me on Discord of a trade offer that I can then relay to the AI and see if they would accept it. If multiple people send me offers that are also acceptable to the AI, I would probably use my discretion to determine which would best suit the Jets, but I want people to remember that even though I am allowing trading draft picks with AI starting this season, that is limited only to picks for picks trades and not something like this involving a player.

If any of the new users who were in charge of AI teams last season (aka Bengals and Raiders), I will try and update the spreadsheet with the pertinent info in a timely manner.

For my two cents, the Jets don't really have a glaring need when it comes to a starter, but they could use some youthful depth, especially on the offensive side.

The Almighty Slash Line

All contracts will be presented to you via slash lines. It is imperative that you interpret and understand a slash line and its components, so here is an example to kick off my seasonal explanation:

3 / $7.50 mil / $1.80 mil

3 = length in seasons that the contract will last. All contracts will end up being between 1-7 seasons in length. There are some in-game and league-mandated limitations on length, but I will explain that rather soon.

$7.50 mil = Total salary that a player will earn over the life of the contract should the contract not be reworked while still under said contract or the player released.

Using this example, the player will receive $7.50 mil over three seasons, which gives him an average cap hit of $2.50 mil. His cap hit will not be $2.50 mil in each season though. This contract will see the player's cap hit rise each season, so his first year cap hit might be $2.12 mil, $2.47 mil for the second season, and $2.91 mil for the final season.

$1.80 mil = Portion of total salary that is guaranteed, aka signing bonus. For most, this is the hardest thing to grasp about the slash line and contracts in general. The NFL does not have fully guaranteed contracts, which means that what a player signs for might not actually be what they receive in the end. The team that signs a player to a contract will always be on the hook for the final figure in a slash line, with the only exception being if a player retires while under contract.

Using this example, the player might have a cap hit of $2.12, $2.47, and $2.91 mil in the first, second, and third seasons. However, his signing bonus is stretched out evenly across every season. The annual bonus in this contract would be $600k ($1.80 mil / 3 years). The annual bonus is a feature on the team financial sheet, so that info will always be available to you.

Now, if you trade or release a player under contract with guaranteed money, you will receive a reduction in your salary cap space, aka cap penalty, that is equal to their annual bonus x the years remaining on their contract. Using this example once again, let's say the player is released after the first season. That would leave him with $1.20 mil left in guaranteed money ($600k annual bonus x 2 years left on contract). The team that signed him to that contract would then be issued a cap penalty the following offseason to the tune of $1.20 mil.

If that player would be traded instead, the original team would receive the same cap penalty, but the new team would have a discounted contract. Because the original team is always on the hook for the guaranteed money, the $1.20 mil that is still owed that player is taken out of the contract for the new team. If the cap hits for years 2 and 3 were originally $2.47 and $2.91 mil and the annual bonus was $600k, then the new cap hits for the new team would be $1.87 and $2.31 mil. The new team could then release or trade the player at any time without financial repercussions since the contract no longer had any guaranteed money attached.

Finally, in case someone doesn't know, mil = dollars in millions while k = dollars in thousands.

Offseason in a Nutshell

Every user this season is a returner, so none of these should need much explanation to anyone. There are four major events during the offseason. They will be explained in full detail when the time comes, but here they are:

1. Restricted Free Agency
2. Unrestricted Free Agents
3. NFL Draft + Signing Rookies
4. Free Agency

Restricted Free Agency - This is easily the most complex of the four, yet it is the one that has the lowest activity. A small sub-section of players whose contracts run out are considered restricted free agents. These players can, but do not have to, be signed by their original teams to a 1 year contract at one of three fixed amounts. Those that do sign can then be offered contracts by any of the other 31 teams to multiyear deals. Any team who has a player sign a contract with another team will then have the opportunity to match said contract or let them sign with another team and receive NFL Draft pick compensation.

Unrestricted Free Agents - Any player with an expired contract who was not considered a restricted free agent is thus an unrestricted free agent. Teams then can elect to re-sign the remaining players or let them enter the free agent market. Unlike the previous event, the other 31 teams cannot do anything to you, so you are free to operate without outside pressure. There are a few more wrinkles, but it is pretty straightforward.

NFL Draft + Signing Rookies - This is an event where all 32 teams can select college football players to join their team. Each team normally has seven draft picks, one for each of the seven rounds of the draft. The order that a team selects is based on their record and playoff performance, if applicable, from the season before. Earlier in the topic, I mentioned this season's draft order, and all teams are free to trade draft picks. After the draft, a separate period of time is devoted to signing all the players that a team drafted.

Free Agency - All players not signed or re-signed in the previous three events enter the free agent pool, and this is the time that every team is able to bid on the services of those without a team (aka free agents).

KCF has beaten Yooka-Laylee

I finished with 140 Pagies (just need five minecart-related ones) and all other collectibles aside from a tonic I believe. My playtime was almost exactly 20 hours.

It started off pretty good but got better as the game went along. The hub world was pretty disappointing, but the individual worlds made up for it. I wish that they weren't so faithful to the 90s/early 00s era Rare games and adopted some quality of life changes, but maybe that's part of the nostalgic appeal. I plan to return one day and try to tackle the minecart stuff.

Yeah the bombastic campaign of 3 vs the personal, more intimate campaign of 4 is definitely up to personal preference. 3 has either my favorite or second favorite campaign (ODST the other main contentender), but 4 isn't far behind.

However, I put more stock into the multiplayer than single player in Halo games, and 4 to me is the clear winner. It is simply the result of natural evolution. In addition to simple tech enhancements, being able to sprintwithout needing a powerup, having custom loadouts of non-power weapons (I love being able to pair a DMR and Light Rifle from the start), and an excellent collection of new maps (Exile might be my favorite Halo map) just got me hooked on it in a way that I hadn't experienced in the series since 2.

Well, what is it?

As per usual, I did not include (enhanced) ports. I also did not include XBLA games as they had their own separate poll years ago.

For multi-platform games, I only included them in this poll if I played it for the 360. This poll would look a lot different if I included games that I played for PS3 that also came out for the 360.

Honorable Mentions
BioShock
The Darkness II
GRID
Halo 3
Pure

God this was brutal making cutdowns and even further cutting down just for honorable mentions. Several Assassin's Creeds, Call of Duty MWs, and Mass Effects were among the last cuts.

I finally got N. Brio, Koala Kong, and Megumi to show up in the shop, so I have everyone that I want now. I have like 15 more in the shop, so I might continue playing it online on the weekends and try to purchase everyone left as well as grab some paint jobs or costumes that I like. I also won my fourth race today. We were on Nina's Nightmare, and I did not race well at all. I had just come from playing Mario Kart 8, and my cornering was just way off. I was stunned that I won and by seven seconds.

I am up to 116 Pagies in Yooka. I entered Galleon Galaxy, found a ghost, and purchased the final move from Trowzer, but I didn't do anything else there. I looked at the totals page and saw that I had completed Hivory Tower and just need to the two minecart Pagies from Capital Cashino, so I decided to revisit the other three worlds for their non-minecart pagies, quills, ghosts, and extension items. Thank the heavens and the hunter tonic that I didn't need a guide to find the measly few quills that I missed in them. I did use a guide to get one Pagie in Glittermaze Glacer as I found out the hard way that the "hats" I collected for the snowmen disappear when you leave the world, so I just used a guide so I wouldn't waste so much time on it..

Looking at the totals page, this Galaxy world should be the final one, so I'm intending on doing everything aside from minecart segments before tackling the final boss.

I am up to 83 Pagies in Yooka now. I have absolutely no idea where the boss in the casino is, so I may just go ahead and go to the next world. Moodymaze Marsh and Capital Cashino are a major step up from the previous two, so I'm glad that the game has been getting better the further that I've progressed. This seems like a game that I would love to fully complete, but I cannot stand the minecart segments. Those are set up poorly, and I just cannot get a handle on the finicky controls for them.

I actually won two races yesterday. The first was on Polar Pass. I was clustered in the middle at the beginning of the race when I got a green bubble shield. Almost immediately after, someone at the rear used their warp orb and took everyone out but me. I ultimately never relinquished the lead, but I almost blew it at the end. Someone was playing as Ripper Roo and was ever so slightly catching up as the game went on. Near the end of the race, I ended up hitting one of the two seals before that wall barrier jump shortcut, which of course hurt me in multiple ways. On the final crevice jump at the end, the person playing Ripper went for broke by trying to jump as far to the left on the final stretch as they could only to miss. They ended up finishing in third as a result.

The second was on N. Gin's lab. There were about four or five of us jockeying for those top spots for the first two laps. On the third lap though, someone playing as Isabella and myself were starting to create some distance. Then, I hit a few stationary items on the ground and assumed that I was done. However, as I was leaving the area with the rolling barrel, I see the Isabella player being brought back to the track after falling off somewhere. I sped past her, laid down a beaker right in her path (which she hit), and I cruised to victory.

I have three wins as Spyro and 0-whatever as everyone else.

I last played Yooka on Saturday, but I am up to 42 pagies now. I talked earlier about being disappointed with Glitterglaze Glacier, but it redeemed itself with the Icymetric Palace. That is easily the most fun that I've had in the game.

I now have Ebenezer, Pasadena, Liz, and Tawna. I have been playing CTR every day, so the others should show up eventually right!?

More importantly, I got my first race win online, and it was on a course that I had never played before (Gingerbread Joyride). We only played it because I changed my vote at the last second from Tiger Temple to this. Usually, I am grouped up with people who are experts at this game, but I apparently got people at or below my skill level because I raced it out in front with a boost start and never looked back. It probably helped that we had two AI racers.

I started Yooka-Laylee a day or two ago. It does scratch that Banjo-Kazooie itch. After liking Tribalstack Tropics due to it being nearly perfectly sized like a BK world, I have been disappointed with Glitterglaze Glacier as they took the Banjo-Tooie/DK 64 route of having it be way too big. It unsurprisingly doesn't have the charm of the Banjo games, but I am enjoying the game thus far. I am also not a fan of the Jinjo replacements in this game.
