https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/02/15/tim-cook-speaks-out-against-violence-in-myanmar

Apple CEO Tim Cook has pledged to support aid groups working to help combat violence against the Asian community.

Following a series of assaults against Asian Americans in San Francisco, Tim Cook has added Apple's voice to those of local civil rights groups condemning the violence. Cook's comments state that Apple is against "racism in all its forms," also comes after violent protests in Myanmar.

Tim Cook tweeted:

The rising violence against the Asian community is a painful & urgent reminder that we must unite against racism in all its forms. There is no place for hate in our society. The team at Apple stands together & we will be donating to groups providing support to those affected.

According to National Public Radio, the Bay Area violence, is rooted in racist, xenophobic rhetoric that claims Asian Americans are responsible for the coronavirus.

As with previous pledges of financial support to aid and humanitarian causes, Cook did not specify either which groups or how much money Apple would donate. Apple does regularly contribute one-off donations to such causes, though, and it is currently funding an ongoing Racial Equality and Justice Initiative with $100 million across the US.

Apple is also now the most valuable company in the world:

https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/apple-now-worth-2-trillion-making-it-most-valuable-company-n1237287

Apple just crossed the $2 trillion market capitalization mark, becoming only the second company ever to do so.

From a garage in Los Altos, California to the most profitable company in the world with its devices, services and ethos interwoven into much of modern daily life, the high-flying valuation sets it apart from its nearest tech competitors. Amazon and Microsoft boast market capitalizations of about $1.5 trillion each. Googles is just north of $1 trillion.

Nicki Minajs father has sadly and suddenly died.

Robert Maraj, the father of the music superstar, passed away after being struck in a hit-and-run accident at the age of 64, TMZreported Sunday (February 14).

Nassau County Police in New York say he was walking on the road between Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue Friday evening around 6 p.m. ET, when he was hit by a vehicle heading northbound. Cops say the driver then fled the scene without a meaningful description from witnesses. Robert was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed over the weekend. The Homicide Squad is investigating the case and asking for the publics help in identifying the responsible party, the outlet reported.

Nicki has not yet spoken about her fathers death. While she had been outspoken about their rocky relationship in years past, its unclear where they stood more recently.

He lost his job because of coronavirus in March and began posting semi-nude images on a subscriber-based social network.

The 32-year-old had been working for a five-star resort company, performing in shows. But when lockdown hit, his contract was cancelled.

"I applied for every single job I could find - all of the supermarkets, anything that was on the JobCentre website - I applied for them all."

He later set up a [Redacted] account on his friend's recommendation.

On the platform, followers pay a monthly subscription fee to access creators' photos, videos or live streams, with the firm taking 20% commission. It isn't just aimed at people who sell nude images, but many users do.

Despite the "no full-frontal nudity" disclaimer in his bio, it started to pick up. Mark estimates that he's made about 1,500 over the last four months, posting similar content on his Instagram account.

"[Redacted] paid my rent. It's paid for food. It's paid for my car to keep running. It has literally paid for the necessities of living," says Mark.

Are you obese?

https://www.kark.com/news/local-news/arkansas-obesity-rate-third-highest-in-the-country-and-getting-worse/
According to the CDC, more people in Arkansas are overweight or obese than just about anywhere else in the country, and the COVID-19 pandemic is certainly not helping.

Experts say its a persistent problem with no easy solutions, but something the state needs to tackle, for ourselves and especially, for our kids.

Third only to Mississippi and West Virginia, 71 percent of adults in Arkansas are overweight or obese.

Unfortunately, theres not an easy answer for it, said Lauren Morris with the Arkansas Community Foundation.

Morris says the problem has a lot to do with where we live and work. People make decisions based on their environment and their community, she said.

Obesity and being overweight is closely linked to heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, a trend also affecting even the littlest Arkansans.

No child should ever have to deal with chronic illnesses that go along with that, Morris said. Those are burdens that a child will have to carry with them for the rest of their life and into adulthood if we dont do something about it.

The $1.9 trillion stimulus package proposed by President Joe Biden would deliver significant financial assistance to the poorest U.S. households, who have faced higher rates of income and job losses during the coronavirus pandemic, a new analysis finds.

Under the plan advancing in the House Ways and Means Committee, the next stimulus bill would send $1,400 to eligible people, as well as expand the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Altogether, the three programs would provide a 33% boost to the pre-tax incomes of the poorest 20% of Americans or a $3,590 hike per family according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

The three programs a third round of stimulus checks, plus the two expanded tax credits would provide a similar dollar amount of average benefits to 95% of U.S. households, the ITEP analysis found. But the impact would be much greater for lower-income households because the benefits would represent a larger share of their income. That's important because the lowest-earning households are more likely to spend that money quickly, providing a boost to the economy while stabilizing their own households, ITEP director of federal tax policy Steve Wamhoff told CBS MoneyWatch.

"There are reasons why this is important at the micro level helping people who need it but also at the macro level, the best way to do that is to get money into the hands of people who will spend it," he said.

Middle- and high-income Americans have recovered faster during the economic downturn caused by the pandemic than lower income households, partly because the latter are more likely to work in industries that have taken a bigger hit, such as restaurants or retail.

That's creating different spending patterns, with households earning more than $78,000 mostly socking away their second stimulus checks, the $600 payments the U.S. started sending out in December, according to a recent study. By contrast, families below that income have tended to spend the money.

The benefit from the three programs would provide a total income boost of $3,590 for the poorest fifth of Americans, who earn an average of $10,900 annually, ITEP found. The benefit to the middle 20% of households would be similar, at $3,370, but would have a smaller proportional impact because of their higher average income in that quintile, at $51,500 per year.

Another study from the Tax Policy Center found a similar boost from the proposed stimulus plan, with its analysis projecting the bottom one-fifth of American earners would see income gains of 20% on an after-tax basis. Two-thirds of the proposed benefits would be directed to households earning $91,000 per year or less, the Tax Policy Center found.

About 11% of the benefits would be enjoyed by households in the top 20% of earners, or those with incomes of $164,000 or more, it said.

"The House Ways & Means Committee could have done a better job targeting both economic impact payments and the enhanced CTC," Howard Gleckman of the Tax Policy Center wrote in a blog post. "Still, its bill would provide substantial relief to low- and moderate-income households at a time when many are in deep economic distress."

https://www.christianpost.com/voices/americas-mayhem-and-massive-decline-in-christianity.html
Only a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic, a groundbreaking poll by Pew Research was published highlighting the shocking pace of decline of Christianity in America.

https://www.pewforum.org/2019/10/17/in-u-s-decline-of-christianity-continues-at-rapid-pace/
The religious landscape of the United States continues to change at a rapid clip.

The data shows a wide gap between older Americans (Baby Boomers and members of the Silent Generation) and Millennials in their levels of religious affiliation and attendance. More than eight-in-ten members of the Silent Generation (those born between 1928 and 1945) describe themselves as Christians (84%), as do three-quarters of Baby Boomers (76%). In stark contrast, only half of Millennials (49%) describe themselves as Christians; four-in-ten are religious nones, and one-in-ten Millennials identify with non-Christian faiths.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/thefreethinker/2020/09/good-news-religion-is-fast-going-down-the-tubes-in-america/
One of the worlds leading social scientists Ronald Inglehart, above, of the University of Michigan claims in a book soon to be published that the United States is experiencing a more dramatic shift away from religion than any other nation.

Religions Sudden Decline: Whats Causing It and What Comes Next is to be released in January by Oxford University Press. Writing in Foreign Affairs magazine in an advance summary titled Giving Up on God: The Global Decline of Religion Dr Inglehart said:

Growing numbers of people no longer find religion a necessary source of support and meaning in their lives. Even the United States long cited as proof that an economically advanced society can be strongly religious has now joined other wealthy countries in moving away from religion

Several forces are driving this trend, but the most powerful one is the waning hold of a set of beliefs closely linked to the imperative of maintaining high birthrates. Modern societies have become less religious in part because they no longer need to uphold the kinds of gender and sexual norms that the major world religions have instilled for centuries.

Although some religious conservatives warn that the retreat from faith will lead to a collapse of social cohesion and public morality, the evidence doesnt support this claim. As unexpected as it may seem, countries that are less religious actually tend to be less corrupt and have lower murder rates than more religious ones.

Needless to say, religion itself doesnt encourage corruption and crime. This phenomenon reflects the fact that as societies develop, survival becomes more secure: starvation, once pervasive, becomes uncommon; life expectancy increases; murder and other forms of violence diminish. And as this level of security rises, people tend to become less religious.

The most dramatic shift away from religion has taken place among the American public. From 1981 to 2007, the United States ranked as one of the worlds more religious countries, with religiosity levels changing very little. Since then, the United States has shown the largest move away from religion of any country for which we have data.

Inglehart says that other factors beyond rising levels of economic and technological development help explain the waning of religion.

In the United States, politics accounts for some of the decline. Since the 1990s, the Republican Party has sought to win support by adopting conservative Christian positions on same-sex marriage, abortion, and other cultural issues. But this political appeal to religious voters has had the corollary effect of pushing other voters, especially those who are young and culturally liberal, away from religion.

Fans are calling out David Boreanaz to say anything in regards to the allegations against Joss Whedon from his longtime Angel and Buffy co-star Charisma Carpenter.

Earlier this week, the 50-year-old actress accused Joss of on set abuse and misconduct.

Many of her Buffy peers, including Sarah Michelle Gellarand Michelle Trachtenberg, have made statements in support of her. However, David has been notably silent, as pointed out by many fans.

There is a responsibility here to stand up for whats right and Id always seen him do so. So why not this time? one fan mused on Twitter about the situation. He does have a responsibility to his cast mates and the fans. Its worrying to see him delete his posts too. Now I feel like theres more to the story.

While his Twitter has been protected for quite some time, fans did notice that David had wiped almost all of his Instagram, save for one photo of his father, Dave Roberts.
interesting response from david boreanaz ! deleting all your insta posts to magnify your silence is a new one ! cool one bro ! one fan called the SEAL Team actor out on Twitter.

While many fans are mad at David for not saying anything, theyre also calling out Alyson Hannigan for her silence as well.

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/next-stimulus-check-more-likely-213600156.html

Congressional leaders continue to be optimistic about getting the next checks out quickly. On Wednesday, House committees started nailing down final details of the legislation; that work is expected to finish on Friday.

"Over the next many hours, and days, we will debate legislative proposals that are immensely important to the American people. They are proposals that many of our families and neighbors need to stay afloat in this incredibly challenging time," said House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal.

Speaker Pelosi says the House can see the finish line. "We hope to have this all done by the end of February," she said on Thursday during a news conference, while adding that a bill should be on the president's desk no later than the first part of March.

Under that timeline, you could receive your next stimulus check as soon as late March.
