It's disgusting that the Democrats aren't trying to eliminate all other government spending and redirect that money to make the checks even bigger. That said, RotJ is easily the worst of the OT because everything between that and Luke's reunion with Vader is incredibly dull. It's very well shot, the sound design is top-notch, the acting is great, and so on. There's just one big problem for me: I didn't care at all about the story. I'm not even entirely sure why. Part of it is the way the movie withholds so much information that the characters know, which made it hard to understand why stuff is happening. Part of it is that I personally don't like movies about rich people problems (even if this one is partially about how empty their lives are). Thoroughbreds is a good movie and I don't regret watching it or anything, but it's just not for me. Raka_Putra posted...

If you're old enough to collect social security you're too old to be in Congress. I think it'd be better to put age limits at the start of their terms rather than letting people win reelection just to be forced out. I'd go with younger than 75 for senators and younger than 80 for representatives, though. 65 seems way too low for some reason (though it does about right as an age limit for president) --- Congrats to 2020 GotD Guru champ azuarc! |

I keep seeing it characterized as this and I just don't see how anyone can't understand that McConnell got everything he wanted out of the confrontation. With Manchin (and Sinema) publicly committing to keeping the legislative filibuster in place McConnell is in basically the same situation as minority leader that he was as majority leader - that is, not a single piece of legislation he doesn't approve of will pass the Senate. Hell, if he doesn't even want a vote on something it'll never be voted on. As long as the filibuster remains in place, Mitch McConnell remains the most powerful person in the U.S. government. Technically, McConnell has slightly less power now. As Majority Leader, he could just refuse to put bills on the Senate schedule at all. Now that he can't simply block everything the GOP will have to actually declare filibusters, which means the Democrats can hold cloture votes and show where individual senators stand on the issues. This changes nothing regarding things getting done, but at least the Democrats can try to make it clear what each party really believes. HeroDelTiempo17 posted... Change it back to the old-school Mr. Smith Goes to Washington shit where you have to physically rant until you pass out or it doesn't count. The problem with keeping "talking filibusters" is that a group of senators could just yield the floor to each other in shifts. That said, Machin deciding to just let the GOP keep control of committees is awful. I don't even think he gains anything from it; even if he doesn't retire, his reelection chances look pretty bad right now. That's not a bad thing, it's just that there was so much going on with symbolism and call-back jokes that I don't think I can do a good write-up because there's too much stuff worth noting that I probably didn't even notice. Definitely a great film that I'll watch again at some point. 9/10 kateee posted... What do you think are the consistently funniest movies of all time? Off the top of my head: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Life of Brian, Blazing Saddles, The Emperor's New Groove all came to mind right away. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "most consistently funniest", though.
