The pins and needles could have been the vitamin B12 deficiency, or it could have been a sugar thing - it only started after I necked a small bottle of salted caramel Kahlua. But my drinking has evidently taken a toll on my liver, so whether it was the alcohol itself, a vitamin deficiency or whatever, alcohol is definitely a concern.

I know. Honestly, it's been hard to be around alcohol lately without being able to drink it. I want to look after my health, but some days really fucking suck without anything to take the edge off.

Between November 21st and December 31st, that's a month between drinks. After new years, there's one occasion in January I'm considering drinking for - a combined 4 birthdays in one event. And after that, there's no special occasions for months. I'm dipping my toe into the water, and keeping my health in mind while I do it so I don't jump in headfirst again.

A few weeks ago I made a topic about a health scare I had. After drinking one night, I had pins and needles in my arms for hours - I remember being in bed at 5am, and my arms were still buzzing. And the next day, I shat blood. So I booked a doctor's appointment.

That was like two weeks ago. They took my blood, and I got the results back the week after.

They tested the amount of liver enzymes in my blood - I don't know the measurements, I just know the numbers as told to me by my doctor. According to him, a reasonable amount of liver enzymes would have been 40. My blood test turned up 169 liver enzymes.

I also had a vitamin B12 deficiency, and my cholesterol was a bit high. I've been taking supplements and avoiding fatty/oily foods whenever possible to get these conditions under control.

As for drinking: I've stopped cold turkey, but I will be drinking for special occasions. I've got a party next weekend (that might be cancelled due to personal reasons) where I'm planning to drink a bottle of wine and a 4-pack of cider. After that, I'm planning to drink on new years.

You might think that a bottle of wine is enough, and that 4 ciders on top of that is ridiculous for someone who's trying to curb their drinking, but earlier this year I was drinking 3-4 days a week and at least 2 of those days were to the point of blacking out. This is honestly more reasonable than I'm used to, and it's one night of me cutting loose.

All in all, my medical bill has been $0. I've had three doctor's appointments and one blood test, and I haven't had to pay a dime. Socialised healthcare is a great thing.

There were people getting in trouble for burning effigies of Obama, there were people demanding to see his birth certificate and insinuating that he was a terrorist or a Muslim agitator because of his middle name (Trump did spearhead the latter two dumbass conspiracy theories, but it ran rampant through the more extremist Republican circles even before he was the head of the party).

Conservatives have been a cancer to basic political civility before the Trump administration, and they'll continue to be a cancer to basic political civility now that Dipshit Supreme has been thrown out on his ass. The Stephen King movies I've seen are The Langoliers, The Shining, Doctor Sleep, the original It and The Shawshank Redemption. I've also seen bits and pieces of The Green Mile.

I would say that my favorites have been The Shawshank Redemption, Doctor Sleep and It. In that order.

The Shining is pretty good, but I haven't seen it in years and I wasn't crazy about it. Like I don't doubt that it's good, but I'm just not the most jazzed person in the world about it. I know enough about it and appreciate it enough to have really enjoyed the Doctor Sleep fanservice, but I think I prefer Doctor Sleep's style of characterisation and storytelling over the original Shining. Though I would have to re-watch the Shining to make sure.

It (1990) is cheesy, but even as silly as it was in places, I found it to be well-acted and charming throughout.

According to a report in the Huffington Post on Tuesday, students in a 10th-grade history class at Maumee High School in Ohio were offered extra credit to do a little of the latter by watching videos produced by Prager University (PragerU). That is not, in fact, a university, but a right-wing nonprofit and YouTube channel founded by talk show host Dennis Prager.

PragerU videos are often stocked with historical revisionism, xenophobic and anti-Muslim propaganda, rants decrying feminism, climate change denial, and rhetoric asserting the left is a pathology centered around literally destroying the U.S. It also promotes creationism and flirts with far-right rhetoric like decrying the demographic suicide of Europe. (Prager himself has bemoaned that it is idiotic that you cannot say the N-word.) PragerU videos are often littered with factual inaccuracies and tend to hype up a conservative victimization complex.

According to HuffPo, some of the videos assigned had titles including Build the Wall, Why the Right Was Right, and The Left Ruins Everything. Students were reportedly asked among other things to identify the videos most important messages. News that PragerU was being taught in the classroom comes the same month as its recent push to break into K-12 education (PragerU Educators and Parents, or PREP), though the teacher involved assigned the videos last year.

To give an idea of what kind of stuff PragerU thinks schools across the country should be teaching, course guides offered in the promotional push included sections such as Conservatives Are the Real Environmentalists and The Ferguson Lie, per HuffPo. True-false questions for test preparation offered in PREP materials include nearly all the major 19th- and 20th-century breakthroughs in health care were made by Western Europeans and North Americans and Big Tech with its control of search algorithms, its shadowbanning, and deboosting supports political correctness and the resulting limitations of freedom.

When I talked to the principal and vice principal, they acted like this was just another assignment, Andrea Cutway, the parent of a Maumee High School student who first drew attention to the courses curriculum, told HuffPo. This really is some scary stuff. I do feel like they have found a way to get into the public school system.

Cutaway told HuffPo that administrators had first offered to introduce liberal content as a counterbalance, though the site reported Maumee High School had stripped PragerU from the curriculum after they reached out. Because pretty much every school and town hall in every town is opened as a polling place. I don't know how it is for cities, but basically we don't leave large swathes of the country without places to vote.

This has been thrown around the past 4 years in political discourse. I think now is the time I want to bring it up and really go through it, to illustrate why I think a Trump victory would fuck up America's principles in an unprecedented way.

How does Trump's government hit these points?

Powerful and Continuing Nationalism: easy - Make America Great Again. All the tariffs and shit he put on other countries, and all the bitching he did when tariffs were imposed in retaliation. He thinks he can get away with whatever he wants, and he spins this as America being the greatest nation on earth for his fanbase - according to his rhetoric, because they're so great, they should be able to impose tariffs on exports but shirk import tariffs from other nations. Trump plays to nationalists - not patriots, who love their country for right or wrong, but nationalists, who believe in America's superiority.

Disdain for Human Rights: locking refugees in cages, cramming 3x the recommended amount of prisoners into inhumane containment facilities, making them sleep on concrete, separating children from their families and losing them in the system, refusing to properly sanitise the camps during a pandemic, forcing refugees to work with dangerous cleaning chemicals without adequate PPE when the former fact was leaked to the press. Oh, and conducting unlawful hysterectomies on women who didn't consent to the procedure. That's all refugee stuff, I didn't even get to his administration authorising the National Guard to kidnap people in unmarked vans.

Identification of Enemies as a Unifying Cause: the way he nicknames his opponents and sends his base after them. Sleepy Joe, Lyin' Hillary Clinton, Slippery James Comey. The way he scapegoats Antifa as a terror group, in direct response to criticism of the alt-right, Proud Boys and Boogaloo Boys.

Supremacy of the Military: in a completely superficial way, of course. Committing millions of taxpayer dollars to holding a military parade in Washington, which would have damaged infrastructure. And yet he has a track record of calling veterans "suckers" and "losers", preferring the ones who "got the job done" and came home. This applies all the way back to World War 1 vets, by the way, and he also actively attacked John McCain for being a PoW in Vietnam. He praises the military when he can use them to make him look good, but the way he talks about veterans goes against that image.

Rampant sexism: "Grab 'em by the pussy", calling Hillary Clinton a skank, saying you can do whatever you want to a beautiful woman "because you're a winner", multiple counts of women accusing him of walking into their dressing rooms, insinuating that sexual assault in the military is the natural result of men and women working together. Controlled Mass Media: taking press passes from organisations he deemed to be critical of him, such as CNN. Becoming so dissatisfied with Fox News not outright praising everything he does that he directed his followers to One America News Network, a far-right tabloid that actively participates in misinformation tactics and panders to extremists.

Obsession with National Security: "Build the Wall", characterising refugees as "thieves and rapists" - saying that the countries were only sending their "worst" in an effort to undermine America. Prioritising ICE, and allowing them to distribute misleading documentation to non-native English speakers that indicated that ICE was allowed to detain them and search their residences without a warrant. Again - authorising the national guard to take protestors off the streets in unmarked vans, take them to undisclosed locations, intimidate them into signing legal documents and taking pictures of their face for easier identification.

Religion and Government Intertwined: churches receiving coronavirus stimulus money, despite being tax-exempt institutions. Trump's campaign remarks in 2016 promising pastors the ability to spend tax-exempt money on political causes.

Corporate Power Protected: Trump's tax cuts for corporations, taking the rate down from 35% of profit made in America to 21%. Most businesses don't even pay that, with Fortune 500 companies averaging about %11.3 in tax. These tax cuts have left America with a deficit, and there are Republican politicians championing the removal of property tax - which is like a couple of hundred bucks to a thousand dollars for a mansion, and roughly $50 for your average home - and championing the privatisation of roads and libraries for corporate profit.

Labor Power Suppressed: America's gutted out unions. They've been a problem for decades, but worker's rights continue to erode under Trump's administration, fueled by the removal of safety regulations. Amazon is the poster boy for this problem - productivity is measured by the second by a machine, which takes your movement into account and counts how long you're in the bathroom. Efforts have been made to create non-ergonomic toilets which slope downwards, which make it impossible to sit on them for longer than 10 minutes without putting significant strain on your body. If you take too long or don't physically work hard enough according to the readings of a machine, you can be fired in the spot by another machine - with no human input required. The only union with any modicum of power today is the police union, which is abused to keep cycling corrupt or law-breaking police through the system with little to no accountability.

Disdain for Intellectuals & the Arts: "colleges are liberal brainwashing cults". The way that Republican-aligned news sources cut off researchers or speakers who go counter to Trump's claims or who actively disprove current Republican talking points.

Obsession with Crime & Punishment: on a personal level, Trump put out full-page ads urging for the imprisonment of the Central Park Five - a group who was not guilty of the crimes they were charged with. Trump's focus on imprisoning immigrants and characterising them as "thieves and rapists". Turning "Lock Her Up" into a battlecry against Hillary Clinton, and floating the suggestion that his opponents are criminals who need to be put in jail. Again - calling the national guard into protest zones to kidnap American citizens off the streets and have them sign legal papers under duress.

Rampant Cronyism & Corruption: visiting his own businesses and billing the government for it. Climate deniers being employed in scientific institutions, and people who speak up about climate change being removed. Packing his initial cabinet with millionaire business owners, and pursuing policies which would benefit their bottom line.

Fraudulent Elections: calling the 2020 election in his favor before half of American states even began counting votes, threatening to go to the Supreme Court to throw out all mail-in ballots. Refusing to commit to a peaceful transmission of power, putting an unscalable wall up around the White House prior to the election, placing a Supreme Court Justice prior to the election to stack a Republican victory in the event of him contesting the 2020 electoral results.

My mental health is better as an adult than it was as a kid. No longer suicidal, not having hallucinations all the time. That's mainly due to medication, which I didn't have access to as a kid (I'm talking age 5 onwards).

I also don't have to deal with violence anymore, from either bullies or my mother.

That's what surprised me the most about being an adult. I hated being told "it gets better" as a kid - everyone who told me that didn't know what I was going through or how I was feeling, and they wouldn't/couldn't actually help me in a meaningful way. I couldn't confide in anyone about the bullying I was going through, or how awful I felt.

It felt like a bunch of self-congratulatory wank, like by telling me I would feel better one day they had uplifted me, when they had just passed the buck instead of actually being able to help me. I was convinced I didn't have a future past 18 and that I deserved to die.

I'm 25 now, and I can say that I feel better right now than I've felt in my entire life. Against the sheer hate I had for "it gets better" as a phrase, it was absolutely true. I understand and process my feelings so well now, and I've never been more secure in myself.

Also? The shit that kids get away with in school? As an adult, that's assault and abuse. You can take fuckers to court over that. Most people don't have to put up with that as adults because it's literally fucking illegal.

Mississippi had one of the worst cases of gerrymandering in years. It was characterised as being racially segregated, with polling places being in white footholds and no polling places in predominantly black neighbourhoods.
