This case is only really compounding the previous nonsense from them though. No one is coming in here with the sole intent of saying, "oh wow can't believe they pulled that Splatoon sponsorship". It's, "oh wow I can't believe they're still choosing to be stupid about this by also pulling that sponsorship. Why can't they just let Melee do its thing?"

I don't think anyone is making that specific argument and instead just saying, "this is also dumb". Nintendo forgetting all about Melee would be better than what they're currently doing.

The part that people actually care about is them sending a C&D to a tournament instead of just pulling a sponsorship.

What even is the "melee community" at this point? Many of the pro players, and especially those at the top, are pretty non-offensive, and the 'fans' on twitter and twitch are no different brand of terrible than any average twitter or twitch user.

Go look at kpop stans, politics people, or unironic console defenders. Literally every fanbase is toxic at some level.

For the second time this week, I'm not here to argue with you, Ulti, but I'm not trying to speculate on what there hasn't been evidence for. I'm sure there are many people in the world who are bad people who we don't know about, I was merely making the point that, of the many people exposed for doing bad things in the Summer, there were significantly more Ultimate than Melee players on that list.

It doesn't even matter, though, since it really has nothing do with the point of the topic!

Yeah this is what I was referencing. So either the top teams are pulling out of the Nintendo tournament, since Nintendo doesn't even give them any prize money, or they're still playing but then also doing this tournament on the side for awareness.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the teams coming together and saying, "wow fuck Nintendo, let's do the finals between ourselves anyway".

Also punishing an entire community for the wrongdoing of certain individuals seems a little extreme. I feel like historically that has led to some pretty bad things, but I'm no historian.

Regardless, what Nintendo is doing and has done to Smash and all of their communities for the last 15+ years obviously has nothing to do with something that came to light this year. This argument is just as much about Nintendo being actually a dogshit company overall with their practices as it is about the Melee community getting shafted at every opportunity.

The same people saying "fuck melee" are probably the one's who see Nintendo release a digital game that is only purchasable until the end of March and say, "ah yes this is great I love this company".

Melee had like one or two people exposed in the recent rape/abuse thing that happened, and rightfully so, but to act like it was a Melee problem is just being ignorant.

It was a Smash problem as a whole, and the vast, vast majority of exposed abusers came from Ultimate, not Melee, so that part is wrong, too!

Nintendo decides to completely cancel the airing of a Splatoon finals because some of the team names are in support of Melee. This comes off the heels of Nintendo forcing a big Melee and Ultimate tournament to shut down last week because players were using a legal method of online play for Melee, which is only happening because there may or may not be a global pandemic.

I'd probably take a couple of the NFC teams over them as well as the Chiefs from the AFC. It's tough because all of the NFC teams seem to have some sort of weakness. The Seahawks can't play defense, the Rams seem very good especially in the second half of the season, and assuming Brees is healthier, other than his noodle arm, the Saints are dangerous too. Big Ben hasn't had to be fantastic for them to win this year, which is a good sign too.

You've got to be pretty good to go 8-8 with Duck Hodges and Mason Rudolph.

Maybe it's because of how messed up their schedule has been, or because its a covid season and everything is a little weird, but I feel like the Steelers are the least hyped undefeated team I've ever seen.

I do think they aren't as good as being 10-0 suggests they are, but I don't see much fanfare for them as a world beater, at least not in the media that I'm consuming.

Ulti I don't really want to argue with you, but generally what I have to say to these types of lines of thinking is 'literally who cares'.

Why do people have to be language police all of sudden. How does this pain you in any way? If you don't want to partake, that's on you for being selfish towards the understanding of other people, but it costs you nothing to be silently selfish. Instead, everyone always has to jump at the first possible point to try to shove their thoughts in. I never met a single person who cared as much about how English works during my time getting an English degree as people on the internet care about pronoun use.
