And they try to use videogames as a platform to yell about complex and severe socioeconomic problems, and frankly, it just doesn't work very well. The medium struggles to bear the burden of the message. I have a similar problem with this horror/ARG reviewer called NightmareMasterclass. He has decent production, great voice, and can clearly analyze works with a great deal of nuance (no surprise because he has a degree in literature). But he just has to relate his reading to capitalism. He tried to say Petscop was about capitalism failing the lower-middle class under Bill Clinton. Like dude, literally what the fuck are you talking about lmao. This leads to the people trying this video game -> politic format to always be making remarks in their videos and replies to comments justifying how they're doing things to baffled onlookers --- |

I've watched Jerma985 play the new ones and he makes them look quite fun by just goofing around a lot and figuring out the mysteries of how to trigger events for specific kills.so uh honestly. As someone who would put Blood Money in my top 20 games, the reboot series definitely leads more on the side of what I'd call "streamer bait." These games were basically made for someone like Jerma with an audience if you ask me. The game waves a lot of stuff at you to let you say "ok guess I'll dress up like a witch doctor and run around disemboweling everyone" Also have to ask how you define tedious, because the QoL difference just between 47/SA, and Contracts, and Blood Money is already enormous. Blood Money improves on the jank of the previous games. The 2016 games are more professionally put together but it's more of a sidegrade of features than a total upgrade from Blood Money in order to fit the larger, less numerous sandbox levels. There will always be some jank though and especially with how large the modern levels are I recommend playing on Professional where you have unlimited save states If you ask me, the quality of 2016-series Hitman levels varies a lot. I remember being very excited about the 2016 beta but eventually I, with reluctance, changed my positive review (which had a ton of hits on the steam page) to a negative one because I was unhappy with their vision and direction at the time. I'll say it: most of the Hitman 1 levels are just not very good. I finally started up Hitman 2 and so far it's an improvement. It'll never be the concise, puzzle-box levels of BM but it's something. --- |

What this guy did, imo, doesn't really violate the spirit of these kinds of games since scams and ulterior motives are omnipresent in the real world. But it damages the out-of-game-, or meta-, trust of the community. Why play this game when you can scroll down to the comments and see you're being manipulated to do suboptimal shit before you're even through the door and the whales are just laughing to themselves about it. Ultimately my perspective is: you play one of these market games and this is kinda what's coming to you. The kinds of whales these games attract aren't in it for friendship, connections, or the spirit of fair play, honor, and honesty. --- |
