the protests are starting to bring about positive change. Minneapolis is talking about disbanding the police. Breonna Taylor's case has been reopened.

the NYPD is now working 80-hour weeks. they can't maintain this forever, and the protestors outnumber them.

I don't see these protests stopping any time soon.

Examples?
mapp v ohio is one

basically it ruled that evidence found in violation of the 4th amendment can't be used in court. then it largely disintegrated over a few more cases

miranda v arizona is another. it has to do with the 5th amendment and self-incrimination. and now there are a bunch of exceptions to it

hell, the wickersham commission tried to lay out reform, but was extremely ineffective because it basically left implementation up to the police themselves

there's another major commission from the mid-60s that I'm less familiar with. I think it starts with a Z but I really don't feel like looking it up right now

all the history on this stuff is pretty dry, but it's available with some poking around

Nah, I think what we need really is mass reforms, along with purging the hell out of police departments nationwide.
you're incorrect. two big reasons why reform is useless:
1. it can be undone. reforms have happened before, and they have been undone before. if the entire system were scrapped and replaced from with something completely different, it would be much more difficult for that to happen.
2. the entire system has its origins in slave patrols (i.e. wealthy white people paying poor white people to keep black people from running away, turning them into enemies to prevent them from realizing their mutual interest). reform does not fundamentally change that. it's the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.

If your ass has a history of using force that's not necessary
this is part of what I'm talking about. you're still coming from the assumption force is necessary. giving people weapons and allowing them to beat up civilians is not making anyone safer.

Along with that, I'd throw in every idea that I've presented itt, plus positions should be given to people who score well on tests
this would not help one bit

essentially only hiring people of a certain intelligence instead of average-ass motherfuckers.
"intelligence" is a vague, unhelpful concept in this context. I'm not even entirely convinced that it exists, let alone the idea that it can be measured. certainly no test that we have now can do a good job of it

You admitted yourself that the system is corrupt. If you voluntarily choose to take part in and enforce a corrupt system, you are corrupt
while this is true, the central problem is not corruption -- it's the things police are tasked with doing

cops evict people from their homes. cops harass homeless people. cops actively prevent (or at least try to prevent) positive systemic change from happening. that's part of the terms of their employment: they have to enforce all laws, including laws that are unjust or cruel.

Only a sith deals in absolutes...

In all seriousness though...seriously? Those are not the only two categories. This situation is very, VERY nuanced. Basically ALL of America stood up and said Floyd was murdered, and the police brutality has gone far enough. This is why protests spanned from one coast to the other, and everywhere in between.

Once people started rioting, and burning the police precinct down, most of America still lined up on mostly the same side. Some may have looked down on that particular action, but just about everyone understood, and nobody said much.

It wasnt until the riots stopped targeting government establishments like courthouses, precincts, etc., and began targeting small businesses, and places where people lived, and make their living, that Americans began to split on the issueand just because you oppose the idea of burning all of America to the ground, doesnt mean youre an establishment bootlicker, bending over for the government or the police. It just means theyve recognized people that dont deserve to be fucked over, are getting fucked over, and want that specific aspect of the movement to check itself, and stick with their original plans.

If the people rioting were just hitting heads with the police and the government, and left citizens and businesses out of it, this thing would still be moving full steam, with no stop in sight.
first: you zoomed in on one minor detail so much that you completely missed the point of my post

second: destruction of property (including buildings and businesses) is a demonstrably effective tactic for protest

the big reason Dooku was such a big threat is that he specialized in a lightsaber style that was specifically designed for lightsaber vs lightsaber combat. most jedi were trained (or at least most practiced) in a style focusing on defensive manoeuvers and deflecting blaster bolts.
