On one hand, I feel very strongly about it. On the other hand, Covid is still a thing. Im around my wife, mother, and father (who has a heart condition) very often, so Ive got to think about their safety too.

I dont know what to do. I want to go out, but Im a bit afraid to.

Not that I've been super involved or anything, but there are probably ways to donate to local causes, you could possibly make signs/other protest materials they might use, maybe help with coordination.
If there's some local group, you can probably get in touch with them and I'm sure they would have more ideas on helping

We just have different priorities I guess. Being part of a movement to help significantly better peoples lives across the nation is important enough that I would weigh the two, yes. This stupid protest is helping to make a positive difference for generations going forward.

The demand has already been stated. All 4 officers need to be arrested for murder. Derek Chauvin 1st degree. And the rest need to be charged as accomplices

I am not necessarily saying to join or donate to this specific organization, but they list a lot of things that could actually be done to help make positive changes to the way police behave in this country.

As a Black man I say don't donate. Be careful who you're donating to because these corporations create charities but in the end of the day the resources dont ever come back to Black people specifically.

You don't need to spend your money to feel like you made a difference. Listen to some Black intellectual thought leaders and push for justice in local communities when it looks like police are abusing their power.

If you see someone on the street being harrassed, dont just walk past. Stay and make sure that person is protected. Record if you can try to get the officer to calm down because they're more likely to lis th en to a non Black voice then black voice. (They still may not listen but it helps)

I think education and mindfulness in this way goes a lot farther than donations to companies who I honestly feel are using our plight to gain a profit and push for other agendas than what directly helps us

No shit it escalated, I am so fucking mad right now. In four months the coronavirus has killed more people than cops have in the past 100 years, maybe even as long as there have ever been cops. And that was WITH social distancing, and a lower number of infected. And now with everything we know about the virus and how it spreads and how it kills, people like TC are making this exact conscious choice to put their families and other families in danger. Innocent people that never asked for any of this shit. Hell, the protests have been going on for five days now, the point has been made ten times over, and they're STILL putting their own feelings above probably millions of lives. And these same fucking people have the nerve to tell ME that I don't give a damn?? I haven't seen my family in months, and even if I could go see them I wouldn't dare.

I do find it interesting how just last month everyone was freaking out about the virus and calling people protesting about the lockdown murderers.

TC, have you considered... asking your parents? If you're going to indirectly put their lives in danger, they should at least have a say in the matter. Maybe they're willing to take the risk as well, or maybe not, but you owe them that choice.

"Generations going forward" should include your kids too, so why endanger your own family for the protest.

They do have a goal, you are just intentionally ignoring it.

Going to a protest doesn't mean you need to be in the thick of of. Stay to the outer edge keep your distance, and wear a mask. Still that's not a guaranteed way to stay safe, the only guaranteed way is to stay home.

There are other ways to help though. Donate some money if you can, odds are at this point that is more helpful than being one of many. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't protest, but the people already protesting aren't leaving, so you being there or not doesn't change anything but your money can help.

That just makes it worse, not better. Risking the lives of the great many over the lives of the very few is just bad math. And I didn't say it wasn't important, just that compared to what we're facing now, it's basically a non-issue. Christ, I feel like I'm the only one running around yelling "winter is coming."

I'm torn too. I already have a lung problem and Im more likely to get taken down by Covid, but standing on the sidelines feels like shit too. I also know I wouldn't be able to be around my family for weeks after going to be safe,which might push me over the edge of insanity. I need those face to face hang outs.

I think it's a mixture of me also being backed into a corner by my lifestyle and feeling like nothing is going on for me and there's nowhere I need to be. Which yeah, that part would be self serving, but I can't control that that would be a part of it. That's just where I'm at. I definitely believe in everything it's about except the looting. Though I also see the looting as a cause and effect thing. Probably depends how long it ends up going on. Im growing more restless each day.
