I've heard that you can start playing Cruel Angel Thesis in a random park and a bunch of people will start singing along.

I don't know about that per se. But I hear it often enough out and about. Pachinko parlors certainly play it a lot (and have a ton of Eva stuff to try to lure you in). At obon matsuri last year it was played along with more traditional songs as one of the songs to dance too. That was really fun actually. They had the taiko drums going along with it too (it's also a song on Taiko no Tatsujin). As far as I know it has been the most popular song on karaoke every year since it has been released, so for literal decades. That's the easiest way to find it if you go to karaoke, just select popular and it's at or near the top.

The US has the largest prison population in the world by both percentage and raw number. It also has a pervasive culture of violence with an emphasis on punishment instead of reform. People think if they just replace the bottom-rung of the justice system, cops, with "good people" it will get better. They pick pet issues like police unions or private prisons to distract from the top-down pervasiveness of the problem. If you don't think firing all the teachers and getting rid of their unions would make American education (which already spends more per student than any other country) stop putting up 3rd world results, why would you expect that to work for police? In both cases the system and culture are such that who works at the bottom doesn't matter, just cogs in a machine.

Do you think the Nazis would have been good if they just fired all the bad brown shirts and replaced them with good ones? Or was the system itself the problem?

CDC and WHO said masks don't work and you need social distancing and lockdowns. People in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. had no lockdowns, commuted in some of the most densely populated areas in the world daily for months and all of them have among the lowest death rates in the world (1/100 that of the US). Oh and those people wore masks. So why would you listen to the people who told you to do a bunch of things that clearly didn't work and told you not to do something that clearly does work (oh and now they are starting to say masks actually do work what a shock!)?

Tankes who tell you it is real communism and love everything about the fascism with red paint and some cool hammers and sickles. And the actual leftists who tell you it wasn't real communism because bad people came along and wrecked it. The problem is that first group is the only one that ever seems to come out on top.

I think that's the biggest and probably an inherent flaw of leftism. It just kind of expects power to go away of its own accord and not just do what it always does. That expectation causes them to ignore all the careful checks and balances implemented in democracies (which have actively been weakened and dismantled over time in many places, including the US). Power is the eternal threat.

well also Japan does kinda have some issues with their justice system but it is more on the court level. Possibly corrupt lawyers and judges. Japan boasts a like 99% conviction rate. And anyone who isn't blinded by Japanese patriotism has to wonder about that number and think there probably are quite a few innocent people in Japanese prison

Most people arrested in Japan go free. They only prosecute those they are sure will be found guilty. The majority arrested in the US go to jail. They get to play courtroom theater first so rich people who can afford a great lawyer can try to sway a jury though. Japan has among the lowest incarceration rates in the world. America has the highest both by rate and raw number. I am not patriotic for Japan. It's just compared to America it's a paradise here and it's hilarious how much Americans have to try to make it sound like it's actually just as bad when there are no stats favorable to the US.

Men and women have different instinctual drives on average and blaming either of them is silly. It's like blaming people for wanting to eat good tasting food. You evolved to find certain things delicious, culture and society can influence that but you won't find a society where most people want to eat shit. It's the same with dating. You're not doing to find a society where unattractive people are preferred. Environment can only influence your baseline instincts so much.

The problem is it gets watered down to nothing. Defund/abolish police sounds pretty good assuming it leads to a better alternative. But now apparently what they really mean is just get rid of unions and fire the bad caps because All Cops Are Bad, just means unionized cops are bad and all the other ones are actually great.

do you seriously think teachers unions hold the same power? do you understand why shit cops get away with the things they do? its not (just) because other cops cover for them, its because a metric fuckton of lobbying money from the police union is funnled into politicians pockets to persuade them to write the laws and regulations that let the cops functionally self govern. every time a cop gets a complaint, its looked at by other cops; this only happens because the police union throws enough money and lawyers at the situation to keep it from changing.

Yeah the unions are the problem, which is why all other countries that have unions don't have these problems. We get rid of the unions and then cops become nice and polite while continuing to deprive people of their liberty over petty shit. It's hilarious people think pet issues line police unions or private prisons are somehow the solution to having people enforce laws passed by politicians. It's always the bottom rung that you go after. If some corporation does bad things is the solution dismantle the unions and fire all the low payed employees to replace them with new ones that have no representation while keeping all the executives and policies in place?

People are pretending like cops are the cause of and not the result of the American justice system.

simple solution. break up the police union and institute civilian review boards for police misconduct. you get rid of the "police policing the police" bullshit that keeps bad cops in circulation, and you gut the lobbying power that the police union holds over politicians.

If you got rid of teacher's unions and fired all "bad" teachers would US education suddenly stop achieving 3rd world results or is the problem with the system and not the teachers? Thinking that you will magically get good cops now is like thinking the Stanford prison experiment only went bad because bad people got the cop role.

Police are simply the enforcers in the corrupt justice system in America. America has the most prisoners both by raw population and per capita (about .7% of America is currently in jail). About 30% of Americans have a criminal record by FBI definitions. It's a culture of violence, control, and punishment. Simply replacing the people you send out to deprive people of their freedom fixes nothing. The reason other countries have less of these problems isn't simply because they have better cops or less criminals, it's because they aren't trying to arrest everyone over every minor thing and fill up their prisons to punish them (the majority in jail in America didn't commit a violent crime).

I predict nothing changing for America because they don't want to change. Republicans and Democrats love being "tough on crime".

A lot of Eastern Europe was pretty conservative when I was there. A shockingly common opinion was the the Nazis weren't that bad because they briefly liberated them from the Soviets. Outside of Poland I saw very little about anti-Nazism or Jewish memorials. Lot of anti-Soviet stuff though (not that they weren't terrible to Jews or any other minority group, but the horrors of Nazism was very much downplayed). One memorial to victims of the USSR in Latvia I went to had the guide tell us about some of the horrors that happened during the Nazi occupation, but it was all his own telling and nothing provided in pamphlets or on the displays in there. In general you just get a very strong anti-communism sentiment most places (which is understandable because of the Soviets), but this often translates into support for very right-wing parties.

I have noticed a lot of people who otherwise seem cognizant of the many factors out of your control that can cause you to have issues with poverty, unemployment, homelessness, etc. suddenly turn into bootstrappers when it comes to sex. If you're virgin it's your own fault, even if ugly, poor, etc. I probably thought pretty similarly to that long ago, but when I started meeting more people and they often commented on how I bounced from relationship to relationship while others couldn't even get a single date it started to hit me that I had a type of privilege and I started feeling bad for those who struggle. Obviously not for those who are violent/hateful/etc. But most of these people are just in a shit situation, like most poor, unemployed, homeless etc. people. They aren't inherently bad people, a lot of them just aren't considered attractive for reasons beyond there control (just like some very evil attractive people have no problem attracting people they can abuse/manipulate/etc.).

I think it's up to his parents to determine if he should or shouldn't be held accountable, and I can understand they have a moral aversion to stealing and the dad is trying to find a way to instill this into his son. What I feel about speeding (I don't drive to begin with) isn't really relevant, because I'm not his parents and he didn't speed. The author didn't try to understand why the dad felt the way he did and just chastised him for it.

i really enjoyed this game, but it's biggest flaw was that it was too easy. max out blacksmithing, and you could make armour that would regen health faster than you could lose it.

I found that playing on hard helps.

I mean say what you will about the story, but the idea of a Western RPG with actually fun combat is pretty great.

I was expecting the article to be more nuanced than the TC made it to be, but it was the opposite. She could have at least tried to be balanced, but it was a full on rant about how he wasn't a good black person because he considered the possibility of holding his son accountable for stealing.

Randomly wanted to add that I actually had a friend use a Vita as a controller in a BlazBlue tournament because he had practiced on the Vita version, so those controls felt best for him. That was pretty hilarious. This was for PS3 though.
