This is probably in jest, but there's some incorrect math thinking behind this. The model is telling you its view of probabilities, but those probabilities don't necessarily reflect reality. You need to evaluate the accuracy of the model too. For example, if we roll a 6-sided die, we are very confident that each side has a 1/6 chance of hitting. We remain very confident about this even if say, after 50 rolls, it landed on "3" 25 times. While it seems like an anomalous result, we are so confident in our model (that each side has an equal chance of hitting) that we think it's just a run of luck for "3." But what if it lands on "3" all 50 times? What if it was 500 out of 500? At some point, we need to start questioning whether this die is fair or if it has been loaded to always land on 3.

If you have a model that predicts a single election and says candidate A has a 99% chance of winning and they lose, the most likely thing is that the model has some flaws. While it's possible the model just got unlucky, it's unlikely. Now if your model has called 99% of previous elections correctly - then we say that the model probably just got unlucky this time. But if you have no track record? Then statistically probably the model is off.

in order to run true accuracy on the model you would need like hundreds if not thousands of iterations of the election.

As it stands, if the results fell within the range of the model, even if on an extreme end, it still fell within the model.

So I caved and bought a sort of random chair that was on sale at staples.

I opened the box and it seemed a bit strange that some of the packages for the bolts were already open. The pneumatic gas lift was already attached to the part that goes on the chair as well, which is not how the instructions say to put it together.

Then one of the holes on the chair base appears to already be stripped.

I look at the box. There is a covered up shipping label.

I think maybe it was sent to a store or something first, but I notice the address so what the hell, I google it.

The address is to a house. So I got a clearly open box item passed off as new.

All while my back aches from sitting on this travesty of a chair that was very much not designed for long term use.

I'm torn because the dog was likely well cared for despite her being a careless jerk at the time.

There are plenty of dogs out there for people to adopt.

She is still a piece of shit of course, but unless we are going to put her in prison may as well let her have the dog that already knows her unless we are going to also ban her from having a pet.

Definitely agree with this. I burned through several mediocre office chairs using the "try it in the store" method until I finally decided to throw the cash down for a refurbished Herman Miller and holy shit it's so amazing. By reputation I'm not going to need another chair for the next ~15 years too with this so honestly the money difference is probably less than you'd think.

i'm not sure the economics work out. These chairs last me 4-5 years on average.

know one thing. They should just fully open all businesses in every state. People sitting at home without jobs just powderkegged this thing immensely. Obviously lockdowns and social distancing is done. The right will forever point to these protests as further proof of why their protests were right in the first place. Even if spikes happen in two weeks, I don't think it is going to matter at this point. I wonder if the lockdowns failed because we failed to evolve from prior attempts in prior situations or if with social media, it is just impossible to conduct and police anymore.

Close down for 3 weeks. Young people obtain herd immunity from this, work force protected. bam, reopen.

That was my chair, but as I was sitting on it a couple hours ago it literally broke and split in multiple places and almost flipped me over.

Normally, I'd go to Staples and sit on all the chairs and buy the one I like the most. Unfortunately, we're in the middle of a fucking pandemic(With a side of potential civil war) so that really isn't an option.

Even if Staples were open and it was normal, we're under a curfew right now so I couldn't go if I really wanted to.

So I'm kind of lost on what chair to buy. First time I've said my chair model number after purchasing and now I can't just rebuy it because it no longer exists.
