It changes it some if so. Then the reason the cop is restraining him has merit. The way he is doing it and how is not excused. But, it does provide a bit of evidence to a cop doing his job wrong and not "white cops kill black man for being black".

It does not excuse any of his behavior once he has been restrained.

There is no point any of the wrong stuff he did suddenly becomes right.

If this is like previous ones, a video will come out that shows resisting of arrest or failure to comply.

Not that it makes the cop using a pinning knee against a neck right, but it does change the narrative if it is like other scenarios.

A video of him being non-compliant could come out and what it should actually change is...nothing.

People will forget about this in 2 weeks. I don't know what outrage cycle is more predictable: this or school shootings. Either way, I'll be VERY interested to see if any kind of tangible change comes out of this (or one of the inevitable future riots).

We have had multiple incidents now where people said racism off the bat and it ended up.the cop was black also.

I hate to say "black cops can be racist towards blacks" because at a glance it sounds wrong.

Its not. Again, its the issue of racism and dehumanizing based on race permeating through cop culture. They basically become trained to not see minorities as people first and foremost.

right now we're in the phase where it's clear there's a variety of factors involved, with race possibly being one of them, by the main cop who did it, the police department, or both. and as more info comes out it's also becoming clear that the whole "resist arrest" line was bullshit too, which further hurts their credibility. like it's entirely possible these are power hungry corrupt cops and race isn't a factor per se, but it can easily get linked to include race as a factor in their committing these acts (e.g., they can get away with this abuse far better in poor black neighborhoods).

the issue is racism gets baked into police culture.

You have officers that are typically outside a minority community that come in and work in that community. They come to view minorities as suspects, criminals, scum, etc, and this permeates through police culture.

They end up dehumanizing and fearing them, and then, well, we get incidents like this in mass.

Granted, this isn't all encompassing and there are definitely regions where police are simply more openly racist. But in the larger cities, it tends to be more of a police culture thing.

I just skimmed it but I actually approve of the idea of enacting penalties on companies that bow to foreign censorship.

But this hits a hard no when it infringes on a companies ability to moderate clearly objectionable content. With the internet we know that via technology people will abuse these websites to spread harmful messaging and to the public make them seem like legitimate, widely accepted ideals.

granted, if that number refers to raw "going outdoors chance you will be infected" maybe its right. The chance of actually being infected anywhere individually is incredibly low.

But if everyone took that to mean there was no risk of infection, that low chance would turn into infecting almost everybody pretty quick.

This is one of those "not enough science" things, but also likely misinformation based on how we know droplets travel and dissipate. They aren't just magically going to go away from humans just because we are outside.

They aren't going to linger in place and affect someone long after like they might indoors, but person to person close contact spread can happen so fast that number is unlikely to be true.

It was made worse when people saw the riot gear and the tear gas come out.

When police don't show the same restraint they showed when a bunch of white people that had made death threats storm a capitol with guns. Its pretty much shoving the inequality right in peoples face. People are stupid, but you hit a point where it becomes very clear to everyone just how uneven society really is.

btw i had never watched the whole video til a bit ago. He passes out about 3 minutes in immediately after complaining about being unable to breathe(For the umpteenth time) and then audibly gasping for air. The officer uses this as an opportunity to shove his neck into the ground harder.

The people around realize what just happened, when they approach, the officer pulls mace out on them.

Hes been passed out and unresponsive for over 3 minutes when EMT's finally arrive, the offiicers knee has never left his neck.

One of the officers shoves one of the bystanders back from the street, they shouts at them not to touch them(The initiated all contact).

Its just outright murder.

btw the news hasnt shown the whole video because it is too disturbing for TV so most people haven't seen the whole thing. It wasn't just him restraining him. The officer actively taunts him and gives him commands that he literally cannot follow while restrained like that.

The LA Riots were bad but they changed the overall landscape of the region for the better.

New poll out that says the number 1 issue for voters in the next relief bill is extending the unemployment boost. 60% of Dems and 38% of repubs. But this is the highest issue for both sides.

Repubs can't win re-election without it.

The real issue is August is going to hit and all these businesses are going to be running skeleton crews to try to eek out lost profits.

Am I the only one who thinks that having playoffs at all at this point is dumb? Serms like it would be better to just call this season a wrap and move on to the next.

Don't necessarily disagree but also am dying for real live sports that are on earlier than 2:30am. Golf doesn't count.

Biggest disappointment is with this setup we are unlikely to have any California teams playing til next season, and there is likely going to be a big delay on that start.

I am still at shock you feel that an influx doesn't happen if you are allowed to suddenly do something one day you normally could do all the time but weren't allowed to do for a long time prior.

Also it literally coincided with a heat wave we had. It was the first test of guidelines we already had in place with beaches opened and they failed miserably necessitating a shutdown and more clarified, somewhat enforced, modifications.

Article I read prior which I can't find at the moment said they shut down Orange County beach at Huntington and Newport. That the county south of it complained it was causing overcrowding at their beaches and that they were trying to enforce only allowing their country residents to the beach (however they planned to do that is beyond me). They were having council meetings to discuss possibly shutting down their own beaches due to the situation

Those beaches got shut down because they were literally full of a bunch of idiots ignoring distancing guidelines and the county/city were refusing to enforce them.

They got reopened a few days later with modified guidelines.
