I wanted to thank everyone for all their enthusiasm, their interest, their dedication, and their patience. This especially extends to the people who have contributed to getting VGMC14 up and running, both in explicit and more subtle ways.

I'd also like to say that this is perhaps the most interesting, most dynamic field we've had and that designing the bracket for it gave Mycro and I a lot of trouble. I won't reveal the seeding openly, but we had to give some very good songs some staggeringly low placements. In the end we ultimately tried to generally make interesting matches with a balance of style and nominator representation. I hope we succeeded, but more importantly I hope you enjoy listening to all 192 tracks. I've got the playlist here:

If everyone else is at 2, then this is awful and I will boycott battlegrounds. If everyone else is at 3, then this sucks but at least battlegrounds is still playable.

$20 per expansion is bad if you aren't a dedicated battlegrounds player. If it's all you do for entertainment, sure, it's fine, but that's $5/month. I don't even like to spend money on regular Hearthstone, and generally haven't. I understand they need to make money off this from people who are foregoing the main game to play battlegrounds, but I feel like that's maybe a little too high. At the very least, I don't intend to pay it.

If you don't want two of your supports to face each other, then only support 20 of the same type of song. The only promise I make is that I try not to make two songs that have similar qualities pair off. Trying to determine who supported what is an exercise in frustration for bracketmaking.

I think locking is great. The idea of "first 192 songs to 5" mentioned by Player 0 is interesting too.

As long as there's a provision for what happens when not enough songs are getting to 5. The deadline is the kick in the pants that makes things move. I don't believe activity ramped up on Thursday and Friday just because it was the natural progression of time.

I loved the new system and would prefer using it again next year. That being said, with a contest this massive and difficult to run, I support whoever the Host is doing whatever they personally want. Supporting their choice of rules is literally the least I could do to thank them for their work.

This, of course, is the most important factor. Whenever designing a system, simplicity and transparency are the most important details. Anything confusing or labor-intensive is less than ideal. But any method does involve work. I'll be grateful to whatever patsy individual steps up to shoulder that load.

I appreciate the outpouring of support from everyone.

So now that nominations are over, what's the verdict on locking tracks? During the process, it felt like the reaction was generally favorable, but we still had a rush at the end. If we had to do over again, would you
A) determine all songs by lock (and some deadline)
B) do zero locks and just live and die by the rush
C) the split method we had this year

And is there anything else you'd change? 5 felt like the right number to me, and other than that we crowded out a few 5/3s at the end as a result, I think things turned out okay. I've gotten grumbles from a couple people about things that locking neither causes nor discourages, but not much bitterness toward locking itself.

Sorry, I realize I told folks in Discord who were waiting with bated breath, but I haven't made a post here.

The field has been decided. As noted, the lone survivor of the bubble was Another Winter. The entire field can be found under its tab in the spreadsheet. I will now be listening through the new inclusions to the field in preparation for bracket placement. I will let you know when there is an update.

The Thermal Base issue was resolved. I don't know if it was my error or something else, but posts after UF8's on that page didn't get counted. After fixing that, we added another 5 songs to the field, which leaves only one bubble slot for 11 songs that are 5/3 and unlocked.

As of this time I am updating the spreadsheet and preparing to announce where the cut-off for song #192 is. After that, I will need a bit of time for deciding the tiebreakers. Things are going a little differently this year, and although I'm not going to publicly disclose all the details, some executive decisions are going to be made to attempt to give everyone at least a modest number of songs they wanted in the bracket. (After that, it'll be pure random like usual.) I promise to have these decisions made before bed.

The cutoff is kind of a disaster once it reaches 5/x because the spreadsheet doesn't list which songs are locked at what state. So it could fly up the levels in 5/x alarmingly fast.

Just had a fantastic start playing Rafaam.
T1: Whelp
T2: Whelp, steal a whelp
T3: tier up, grab the 2/1 divine shield, freeze a Togwaggle
T4: buy Togwaggle and 2/3 taunt
T5: buy whelp and second Togwaggle

Was only tier 2 at that point, but I basically went right to 6. By the time I got there, I had a third whelp, golden Togwaggle, and a random Mal'Ganis. Grabbed Razorgore, then Malygos, and eventually during heads-up I got a Nadina. Took a huge hit the turn I got Maly because I got surprised by a huge cleave, but I ran the table otherwise.

If we do this locking thing again, I think a useful thing to add to the Votecount List (noms) tab of the spreadsheet would be a highlight of some sort indicating whether or not a song is locked. Because right now unless I'm missing something it takes some amount of time to differentiate between locked songs and songs that only reached 5 after the deadline.

The only graceful way to identify a locked track from the data is if it has 5 votes or not. Ordinarily I'd add an additional field to flag the locked songs that we could use as a marker, but because the data coming in from additional updates won't adhere to that format, it'll just screw things up.

If you or anyone has an idea for how I can work around this, I'm all ears, but short of purging every locked song from the data (which I am not doing due to the labor involved) or getting newbie to change the script's functionality, I don't have any ideas.
