Best Visuals

Honourable Mentions: No Game No Life, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Violet Evergarden, Your Name, Devilman Crybaby, Attack on Titan

Look at that lack of Ufotable or Ghibli for this one. Best visuals is always up for interpretation, but I let the users decide how to weigh their criteria. Some go for the big budget super smooth and fluid stuff, while others will back for series with a visual aesthetic you rarely see in most anime shows. I thought movies could do well here with their access to higher budgets and sometimes unique style, but we stuck with shows this time.

3rd Place: One Punch Man

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km2OPUctni4

Runner Up: Mob Psycho 100

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM3SVVSpghI

Winner: Land of the Lustrous

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4nxEcNrn6M

Well, bringing in the movie quality anime CG to the small screen appears to have done wonders. Orange these days has established quite the reputation when it comes to using CG for their series and Land of the Lustrous was maybe their breakthrough show. No co-productions needed for once, what we got was a show that makes for a lot of very pretty looking wallpapers j/k

If this is what 3D CG anime looks like now, I cant wait to see this level of quality become more widespread into the next decade. Its just been so easy for shows to have bad CG that clashes horribly with the 2D animation. So to see it work so well here, gives one hope that as the tech continues to develop well see even greater results for weekly series.

It must be noted, that all the OPM votes were for the Madhouse produced first season. I think its quite telling that voters opted two series by ONE for Madhouse and Bones given their output in the past 10 years. One is an adaptation of a remake, while the other brings to life a webcomic. But both approaches proved popular!

Also I messed up, the next one is for Best Cast and that

Pitou was a key part of two of the most memorable moments of the series and s/he often upped the stakes of the chimera ant arc. Had a cool design too!

Best Villain

Just about every type of villain type got nominated, from the smart calculating types, the crazy insane guys, the guys with believable motivations and so forth. Though as expected, a lot of the top placing villains need a certain level of charisma to carry some of the arcs where they feature heavily.

Honourable Mentions: Yoshikage Kira, Dio Brando, Askeladd, Altair, Kyubey

Dem Jojo antagonists splitting the fanbase!

3rd Place: Squealer(Yakomaru) From the New World

https://img1.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire2-tmb/066d0eadb02583425c04f6008fd1d30d1357692937_main.jpg

Runner Up: Hisoka Hunter x Hunter

https://images4.alphacoders.com/637/thumb-1920-637345.jpg

Winner: Kaiki Deshuu Monogatari Series

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/bakemonogatari1645/images/7/75/1328792621673.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161231195324

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY3ufkZPm1s

Kaiki is one gloomy looking fella, but when that theme plays, you can usually expect a great scene. As far as villains go, Kaikis just a conman whos put a number of a characters through a great deal of trouble just to make a quick buck. Hes a good talker, doesnt really go for any physical violence and knows when to fold. Though I suspect a major part of his popularity here comes from the fact that as series goes on, he comes off more as a charismatic anti-hero.

His debut appearance in Nisemonogatari was impressive enough with his calm demeanour feeling threatening as he always seemed to be in control of the situation. Koimonogatari however is the arc where most of his popularity comes from with the story being told from his point of view, which just made him more likeable.

He beats out Hisoka, HxHs evil clownface, a villain with a high bodycount and a rather unhealthy interest in our leading protagonist. As one of the stronger characters, hes always a dangerous presence and his actions tend to have pretty dramatic consequences.

Squealer on the other hand is the weakest of the lot, which made his ambitions all the more sinister. He was a minor nuisance that was never properly dealt with until it became too late. Hes the kind of villain where you can see where hes coming from, but can never truly root for due to how far he took his revenge plans.

The one that did surprise me was Wolf Children getting so little love in general.

I think for a 00s contest, The Girl that Leapt Through Time would have a chance of placing top 3 and I felt Wolf Children was of comparable quality.

I think not many saw Mirai though (me included), but on man on the Miyazaki end I thought The Wind Rises would also garner a little bit of attention.

Still only 3 slots to play with so hard choices had to be made.

Best Film

10 years of movies to choose from made for a good enough reason to have this category in play.

Honourable mentions:

No Game No Life Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion, Fate/Stay Night: Heavens Feel II. Lost Butterfly.

Although some Ghibli & Hosoda films got a few votes here and there, in general they were overlooked for movies from popular shows. However that said, our big three pulled ahead from the rest of the pack and itll come as no surprise what the top 3 was. The only thing that mattered was the order.

3rd Place: A Silent Voice

http://getwallpapers.com/wallpaper/full/8/6/e/950233-a-silent-voice-wallpapers-2282x1093-samsung-galaxy.jpg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfK6UgLra7g

Runner up: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

https://images4.alphacoders.com/688/thumb-1920-688418.png

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpbySfGofVc

Winner: Your Name

https://static.zerochan.net/Kimi.no.Na.wa..full.2057837.jpg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU47nhruN-Q

All three were widely praised by the anime community, in the end Your Name was considered the best anime film of the decade by B8. A story of a city boy and a country girl swapping bodies leading to a touching romance as the two leads discover more about the person they are living as.
Oh and it didnt hurt to have a killer soundtrack from radwimps.
Your Name is also one of the very few recent anime films that was able to cross into the mainstream in a way thats usually reserved for Ghibli films.
The moderate international success carried over, as the next Makoto Shinkai project, Weathering With You has also gone on to fair pretty well at the box office.

As for the other top placing films, both are Kyoto Animation projects one a manga adaptation, while the other covers a major arc of the hugely popular Haruhi-series. These films kinda just showcased KyoAnis chops outside of the TV series format theyre better known for.

I would definitely recommend anyone with a passing interest in anime to watch all 3, though youll want to watch the Haruhi series before tackling Disappearance.

Alright, after a fairly length process to determine the best Anime of the Decade, B8's Anime viewers have come up with their answer.
One of the higher votals since I've started running this project, and people really filled out their categories which was cool to see.

Rundown of the order:

Best Film
Best Villain
Best Visuals
Studio of the Decade
Best Story
Best Couple
Fight of the Decade

Best Ending
Best Opening
Best Comedy
Best Drama
Best Character Female
Best Character Male

Anime of the Decade

Ok so I'll be going through these a little more slowly so that people can debate the results a bit more.
That said, coming soon Best Film!

The thing is, I haven't seen DRRR past Season 2, so I don't know if Izaya went full blown villain or not.
From what I saw, he's not really a villain.

I agree with Crono that Wareta Ringo's ED is up there, but if you're gonna mention DRRR, you gotta also have Trust Me in mind!

It was brought up earlier but Problem Children's ED is growing on me real quick.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QjTngci-60

I watch Gintama...so I'm one of those casuals who likes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwv_ERDCjDk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXsLHGOFNV0

While I think in the end I'll settle for Raise your Flag for MWAM OPs, the IBO ED's something I liked as well

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbTsghxSGgU

But as I'm a big fan of Yuzu, that HxH ED's still in play

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waW3LjX-y4E

I'm also trying to fit in the Tanya ED somewhere

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow0b-Crmr1Q

But again, almost everything's playing second fiddle to Uchiage Hanabi, unless something else really obvious has slipped my mind. Such a darn shame the best Monogatari ED is just outside the scope.

Oh wait no, forgot the MomoClo ED

Was thinking Kyubei would get some traction.

Squealer(From the new World) was one of the guys I loved to hate.
For shonen stuff, Shigaraki (MHA) is up there for me, though for HxH I'd usually favour Hisoka.

For long running series that started pre-2009, like say Detective Conan or Naruto Shippuden, characters are ineligible unless they made their full debut post 2010.

Monogatari characters are all around eligible.

Kara no Kyoukai's main seven were all 2009 or earlier, so I intended to leave it off entirely even though the epilogue and Mirai Fukuin were both this decade. If I can use it as an excuse to nominate Ryougi for things I'm not gonna complain though

No Game No Life Zero and the WIXOSS recap movie had utterly fantastic ending themes though, and would definitely be included on any ballot I sent.

Oh as much as I like it, Shiki's theme can't count.

But thinking on it, Dragon Ball Super had a good ED for the Broly movie and I think one of the Sword Art Online films, not sure which has a good ED.

Radwimps' Zenzenzen is neither an OP or ED so although it's awesome, it can't count.
I uh may have to research if Uchiage Hanabi is either of those, I heard the movie was so bad I never bothered to check.

Notable Series

This is just a quick list I put together of notable shows from the decade. Its obviously very incomplete, but might help some people get a general gist of what came out.
