I'll say this: that definitely felt like a full game and a complete experience, even though there was some obvious padding. It felt like the first part of a series of games rather than the opening act of a single game, if that makes any sense.

I mean without the changes and the balls-to-the-wall excellent Sephiroth fight the final boss would have been uh. That big six-wheeled thing that chases you on the freeway.

I really enjoyed it.

This question answers itself, surely? The N9 as a concept is a legend in these contests, a big part of their "lore". They're self-mythologizing, especially now their winning streak is dead. It used to mean they were the strongest characters, now it's just 9 very strong characters that formed a big part of the structure of the early contests.

And anyway, their "legend" was solidified in the 2013 contest. The 1 seeds were the noble nine, even though they definitely weren't the strongest 9 characters in the bracket. Honestly after that happened their legacy was cemented as being more than just like a stats topic meme.

A slower episode than the previous two but still really compelling TV. I thought when Kim was looking at the files she was going to use them to do some kind of research that would help Jimmy.

I absolutely love that last shot of Jimmy, looking stunned at what Kim has become, and the way it was essentially the reverse of the last shot of season 4. It was a little annoying to me that they chose not to mirror it and ended on Terminator-Lalo with a game face instead.

1) The compressed timescale the plot runs on leads to some awkward anachronisms, like it apparently being 2007 at the start but Osama Bin Laden's dead less than a year later and also Rage is out (and is a terrible looking lightgun game).

So in that universe, those things just happened at slightly different times. That's not an issue to me at all, really.

It's so weird rewatching Season 1 and seeing Chuck and Jimmy as friends. Definitely 2 different people.

I rewatched some of S1 the other day and definitely agree. It's kind of heartbreaking. The episode where they're both animated about the Sandpiper lawsuit and working together is great to see, and then it just all implodes. And you think "OK, at least that means Howard is an ally rather than a villain", but Howard is still kind of a psuedo-Patrick-Bateman-ish prick, just less of one than we were led to believe.

Well the sewer and the trainyard bit with the ghosts were really padded out and slowed everything right down, it felt like
FF7's answer to the communications tower from MGS1 was prety great though as was the whole reimagining of sector 7 coming down. Fun boss fight and great cutscenes. I like Barret a lot in this actually.

Completely changed how I look at games. RE4 is a very very close second. Honestly it might be a tie. I love them both so much.

I agree on the clunky movement and hit-or-miss dialogue, although OG FFVII was much, much worse in both departments. The poor localization of the original was charming in a way, but let's be honest, it's objectively bad.

I think it's a very low bar to compare it to a 20+-year-old game.

And imo hit-or-miss dialogue is much more egregious when there's voice acting.

Only control complaint I have is sometimes not being able to press triangle to open stuff unless I'm in like EXACTLY the right place. That needed refinement I think. But mostly it's fun even though I started to feel a little bored with the sector 5 bombing mission, since so much of it was the aforementioned empty corridors. Also Roche. Yikes.

But mostly good.

The puzzling thing is this has been BT's modus operandi for like, 15 years, but he hasn't changed one iota while literally every other user I know has at least a little bit. He's like a time capsule we dig up every year. There has been no evolution. It's so strange.

Remaking CVX was so obviously a better call.

Remaking RE4 is totally unnecessary. You cannot improve on perfection. I'm still gonna buy it, but it'll be the first time ever playing a remake where I know going in that it has absolutely no chance of surpassing the original. With previous remakes there was always some debate, but I don't think there is here.
