For kids, it is a great lesson in responsibility, by putting them in charge of something that depends on them for survivial (with adults stepping in as necessary if the kids mess up).

For adults, they provide companionship. Pets can provide a therapeutic relationship. Obvioualy a 2-sided one with mammals loke cats and dogs, but even a fish can provide companionship as we have a natural tendency to respond well to nature.

It's for the same reason some people get plants.

Uber's current state is likely an investment bubble like Moviepass was.

Unless they strike gold with one of their current R&D projects relatively soon, they are in for a rude awakening occe investors wise up and start pulling away. The promise of future growth can only be pushed for so long before investors will want to see payouts.

This seems to be the case for a lot of tech startups recently. The only one that is looking to show any promise and is worth investing in are gene therapy companies in the biotech industry as they are actually showing results of huge growth.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the bosses when you beat them. Not only is the difficulty ramped up, but some of those bosses are just interesting to fight with all the different things they throw at you. I love the bosses where you fight them in morph ball form (there are a few).

The skills you learn in a business degree are very valuable. Accounting, finance, marketing, economics, and management are great skills to have when you are running your own business as a manager or an owner.

However, the business degree alone won't get you a job as a manager in a company as business majors are plentiful. You need to have relevant experience or a niche skill set to stand out in a job.

In your case, it seems you already have a job waiting for you when you graduate, so I think a business degree will be helpful.

I like that the movie set up the possibility for a sequel. I was afraid they'd destroy the lamp or something to keep it standalone. Not only did they keep the lamp intact, but Jafar even said that they hadn't seen the last of him (something I don't believe he said in the original movie).

I think it'd be cool to see The Return of Jafar in live action. You'd get your villain song that you wanted, and they could even sprinkle in the plot from Aladdin 3 into it (since let's be real, they'll never make that movie into live action).

Two situations come to mind.

1) I accidentally committed the university I work at to an event that costs hundreds of dollars when I didn't have the authority to do so. They had to eat the cost and chewed me out over it. This was within 2 months of when I started the position.

2) At a different job at a different university, I was doing room checks during spring break. I had forgotten to send out the reminder email about the checks like we usually do. As such, during one of my checks, I walked in on a girl just chilling in her room naked (she was in the bathroom when I knocked and announced myself so she didn't respond). Fortunately, she didn't complain about it to my boss.

Anastasia isn't Disney, though. I think it was the last Don Bluth animated film and owned by Fox. There was a long standing rivalry between him and Disney, that was kind of a foregone conclusion, really. But hey, we got a bunch of classic kids movies out of it.

I'm wrong, apparently the last animated Don Bluth film is Titan AE.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Only Disney seems to promote their women in other forms of media. Other companies haven't really tried.

TopicSATs to assign "adversity score" to reflect social backgrounds
Zanzenburger

#114
Hi people, college administrator here.

I raised my eyebrow at this at first, but I've thought about it and it isn't as bad as it first sounds.

First, race is not a factor in this, which was my first fear. It's strictly based on household income, crime rates, high school ranking, and other background information like whether they come from a single parent home, etc.

The article itself has graphs that show how drastically SAT scores go down as you move down household income levels and these other variables. There is enough evidence out there to suggest that these adverse backgrounds can and do in fact affect SAT score. This "adversity" score is more of an equalizer to balance out that bias towards more "privileged" students (I hate using the word but can't think of something else appropriate here).

It's not saying "black people need help with their score" and more "people from backgrounds that have shown to have affected SAT scores are having those backgrounds taken into consideration".

Oh man, tag!

I love seeing Metroid Prime walk-through topics.

My advice is take your time to take in the atmosphere, as that's one of the game's greatest strengths. Scan everything. It may seem overwhelming at first since almost everything is scannable, but it dwindles down later on. But it really helps you understand the story of the world. Although you only really need to scan the red scannables for game completion, the orange ones provide great backstory for you.

I'll try to chime in with other thoughts as I think of them.

The first movie might actually have been the most depressing buddy-animal movie ever so Im kinda shocked it got a sequel.

Every one of the dogs owners had terrible, awful lives before the dog gave them some semblance of meaning, and then...

...the dog just dies...

...without changing anything about any of their lives...

...so, at best, every single one of them would have gone back to being depressed and having the same issues as before. Honestly, I saw a couple of them as probably killing themselves after the dog had entered their lives and exited it abruptly.

are you sure about that ?

I didn't quite see it that way.

Yeah, losing him was rough on them, but for the time he was alive, he gave them a sense of joy they had previously never experienced. I think the movie was going by the philosophy "it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all".

Heck, his last line in the movie in his quest to figure out his purpose is just to be present, live in the moment, and be there for the people who need him.

then how does the owner know it's the same dog? in the trailer the dog is all "hey, it's me!" and the owner totally gets it

To answer your first question, the dog learned a special trick in its first life that was unique to him. After trying unusuccessfully to convince his grown-up owner he is the same dog, he performs the trick and that's how the owner realizes it's him.

He can't talk, except as a narrator to the audience to let the audience know what he's thinking.

Zikten posted...
Maybe in this movie the dog will discover why it's magical. My guess is he will eventually get passed down to this girl's child. And so on through the generations. Like the family's special guardian

Here's my theory on this movie series (and no, I haven't read the books).

I think the dog is tied to the original owner. He keeps coming back as long as the owner is still alive. As you can see in the trailer, his original owner is very old in the movie. I can see this movie ending with the owner and the dog both dying together, with the dog living his last life and going full circle (i.e. his owner is the first thing he sees, his owner is the last thing he sees).

Oh yeah, I forgot one. At the job I left a few months ago, I did room inspections during spring break when students went home. I get to this one girl's room, knock out of courtesy, no answer. I go in the room and as I start inspecting for damage, I step on some clothing. I notice that there are a pair of shorts, shirt, and underwear on the floor next to the bed, laid in a way like someone just took them off.

Seconds later, the student comes out of the bathroom, fully naked and freezes when she sees me. I quickly put up the clipboard I'm holding to cover my face and walk out of the room.

I explain from outside that I was doing room inspections and knocked and heard no one respond. I even called out "inspection, coming in" and nothing. She apologized to me (lol?) for the inconvenience she caused me.

I was just hoping she didn't freak out and report me for some type of sexual harassment. But she seemed pretty cool about it.

In college I was an RA and the most common calls I'd get at night were men and women in nothing but towels who would get locked out of their room when going from the common showers back to their bedroom.

Usually it was cause they would leave the door unlocked but their roommate would leave and lock the door forgetting they were showering.

Surprisingly I got calls from women more than men cause the men would just hang out in a friend's room till their roommate came back. The girls that called me were usually the extremely shy ones who didn't want anyone to see them in a towel.
