Maybe because my expectations were rock bottom to begin with but I don't see why it's been so slated. It was a pretty good, entirely predictable kids movie, and pretty faithful to pokemon canon.

I so expected the dad to be black i wad stunned when he was white. And yes the intern chick was horrendous.

I expected it once they showed that his mother was Black. Plus, they wanted to have the Ryan Reynolds appearance in the film (since he's already voicing Detective Pikachu).

I personally didnt like it. It was zootopia if its story treated its audiances like idiot's having to explain every little plot detail and exposition dumb every 5mins.

And the MCs were horrible, not only that but considering the films targeted demographic him being a young adult made little sense.

I knew what was about to happen (because I mean, it's Ryan Reynolds), but it still didn't feel right.

When Ryan Reynolds showed up I was like "Who's he supposed to be?" And my girlfriend jokingly said that was racist, lol. I don't know why but it totally slipped my mind that the main character could have been mixed race. Obviously I knew about the twist prior to that, so it was a pretty "duh" moment for me.

Agreed on the movie being enjoyable. I didn't expect it to be the best or the worst thing in the world and I wasn't disappointed. My only complaints were the lack of variety in the Pokemon (like, any time it was a zoomed out shot with groups of them it was always Growlithe and like one or two other ones). That might have been intentional though, since Growlithe is basically a dog and it would make sense. But in a world with potentially 500+ (no idea how many there is now lol) of domesticated animals with lots of independent ones, you would think there would be more. Also found the villain and his motivation pretty stupid, but for a kid's movie you can't expect too much.

She is actually the one girl from Supernatural that almost got that spinoff series Wayward Sisters. I think she was also in a recent sitcom, but yeah she is bad.

It was fine.

Id put it on the same level as Mortal Kombat 1, maybe a peg higher. I enjoyed it and the Pokmon fan service was great.

But those battle commentators in that one scene were shit my gosh, I know its just one scene in a movie but could they have found anyone more boring and lifeless to do that? Shit, the Pokmon Stadium announcer was better than those dorks.

The character voiced by Ryan Reynolds turns out to actually be played by Ryan Reynolds!

I haven't gone to the movies since Wreck-It Ralph (the first one). Considered going for this. Life's too sad for me to go see dramas.

I remember disliking Pokemon when I was young, playing Blue begrudgingly to fit in with the kids at the lunch table in jr high... and realizing that I liked it. I'm playing through Gold now. First Pokemon game I'm going to have played through since.
