I can't imagine a situation where you'd propose and *not* be completely sure she'd say yes

It was painfully obvious my wife wanted me to propose

Yeah, in all the proposals I've seen (or been a part of), the gf/fiance already knew it was coming, she just didn't know when or where, which is where the surprise comes from. It's not all that often that a guy will propose and not actually know if this is what the girl wants.

no video conference?

Just a couple of occasions but then Ill throw something on real quick and do a side braid. Takes 5 minutes lol

My wife worked from home for a period of time at her old job and she used to do her work naked (since she sleeps naked and keeps her laptop on the stand next to the bed). But one day she randomly got a spontaneous video call request and she had to decline it since she couldn't get dressed in time. She started dressing after that, lol.

That's the dream, isn't it? Working from home isn't for everyone, though. One of the faculty at our university works from home and she hates it. She feels caged in her house as she's not very social and work used to be the only real reason for her to get out.

That's definitely something I'd love to do one day, though. The wife and I plan to have our own kids soon and I'd love to see them more often when I do have them as my work schedule has me out of the house a lot on trips.

I'd love to just work at my own pace from the house, like I used to when I was an online student at university.

There are others that are more engaged (usually done on nonprofits and college campuses), where you play games that serve a point on how diversity works. They go by different names, but there's the "line of privilege" game, a systematic oppression card game, and just other "pair and share" activities to understand how different people are. And it goes to more than just race and gender. It talks about low income vs high income, rural vs urban, abled vs disabled, single parent home vs dual parent home, etc.

I'd like to hear more about this. I've never specifically been involved in this in any respect.

Well the game I call the "line of privilege" is where everyone stands in a line. The moderator then reads out a particular characteristic or attribute and tells the participant to step forward or backward if they fit that attribute.

Some examples:
"If you grew up in a two-parent household, take two steps forward"
"If English is the second language you learned in school, take one step backward"
"If you have ever been asked to speak for your entire race, take two steps backward"
"If you made it through college with no student loans, take two steps forward"
"If you've ever feared for your safety walking outside, take one step backward"

The idea is that we have a lot of invisible attributes like social, cultural, and political capital that helps or hurts us. If life were a race, this game determines everyone's starting point. And despite diversity often focusing on race, a lot of those situations don't necessarily apply to a single identifier. Like the last one, while people who grew up in unsafe neighborhoods may be very likely to step backwards, you might also find women in general stepping backward. The people near the front realize just how fortunate they are from the getgo by realizing they have all these advantages before even taking into consideration skill and talent, showing how the game is weighted to make some more likely to succeed.

The card game is similar but works a bit differently in that you get to experience what it's like to be in a different social/cultural/political class through a simulated activity where people treat you according to the stereotypes depicted by your card.

There's a number of activities that can be used and are usually tailored to the needs of the group. Though there's usually extensive training involved to moderate these activities as they can become pretty personal and offensive if not handled carefully.

I bought flight insurance for a flight ticket once cause it was a flight to a very important meeting (it was my phd defense) and I could not be late.

Sure enough, my flight was delayed just long enough that I missed my connecting flight by 10 minutes. Despite this, the insurance wouldn't cover it because one of its stipulations was that the original flight delay had to be longer than 6 hours to qualify for insurance protection. The missed connection flight was essentially deemed "my fault" since there was nothing wrong with the flight, and I still got to my final destination within that 6 hour limit.

The stipulations on travel insurance are very excessive and make it very hard to get your money back unless the flight was fully cancelled (and even then, they don't cover "acts of God" such as weather events, just maintenance issues).

I've been in charge of diversity trainings before. They come in various shapes and sizes. The worst ones (usually done by corporations) are the presentations that seemingly go on forever. They usually have videos (not movies) on stuff like sexual harassment and keeping a safe workplace.

Though in my experience, large corporations just go for the presentation and the video with an occasional icebreaker.

Honestly, aside from the last 10 minutes, the whole movie felt like a longer version of the specials they air every now and then. Decent, but without that "epicness" and emotional impact you get from the other 3 films.

The movie did have its gut punch moments, one involving the villain and then the whole last 10 minutes.

The humor was also on point.

Anytime the heroes have a plan to stop the villain and discuss the plan. We all know that when they discuss the plan out loud ahead of time that it inevitably will fail (and they will have to come up with something else on the spot).

The only plans that work flawlessly in movies are those where they don't discuss them in front of the audience beforehand.

The show lasted four seasons in what was probably the lowest ratings of any show that lasted that long. It was a musical show and the songs just kept getting more outrages and ridiculous as the show went on.

Just look at this top 10 list of the craziest songs that were practically professional music videos on crack:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/04/05/best-crazy-ex-girlfriend-songs-ranked/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.c7cdee872a83

Despite the cliche premise, the show was actually very grounded in its depiction of relationships and mental health. The show quickly became an ensemble show and the cast worked well together.

I hope Rachel Bloom gets more work after this show. She's really talented. So far, I've seen her doing some voiceover work for some upcoming animated movies but I hope she gets more live action roles.

I surprised the wife for our anniversary and took her to see Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Live in concert in New York recently. Got to see some of the best songs acted out live. And for whatever reason Rachel Bloom decided to take off her shirt and bra on stage during the last song and perform the whole thing topless. I think there was a feminist message attached to that but I was too preoccupied to really notice, lol.

Any other fans of the show? It never really got much talk while it was airing so just wondering if anyone else had thoughts on it.

I know Chipotle sells itself as Mexican, and Mexican food has lots of spices and seasonings, but in a lot of other Latin American countries, food is actually pretty muted. In Honduras, for example, they are not known to season their foods very strongly and go for a more muted taste. It's really only the touristy areas of Latin American countries that go ham with the spices for branding purposes mostly.

I grew up with food that tasted very similar to Chipotle (I'm Honduran) so it's actually my favorite restaurant. I can't stand queso or the salsas of other places.

They say it doesn't but it really does.

If I said "yellow cats black mice fear eat dry food", it would need commas too.

It all has to do with restrictive relative clauses and non-restrictive relative clauses.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_relative_clauses#Restrictive_or_non-restrictive_relative_clauses

You would only use the commas if you are talking about a specific buffalo (and not a whole general group).

Though I will put the title if a webform or application gives me the option, like on credit card apps or website registrations.
