I don't watch many war movies, but I did enjoy this Russian film called the 9th Company, about the Soviet invasion into Afghanistan. It was pretty competent (surprising for Russian cinematography around its production time). It tells the story of these guys getting conscripted, going through boot camp, and then going to Afghanistan. It skewed some facts in a pretty bad way towards the end for the sake of making a good movie, which I thought was a little screwed up, but otherwise I liked the pacing and the soundtrack and everything.

What was in the book? The story made plenty enough sense to me but some extra backstory still would have been cool

As far as I'm aware, key things like how the First Order came to be a thing, how the Republic was rebuilt, why the Republic doesn't take the First Order threat seriously, shit like that.

Pretty important details that a viewer needs to be aware of if they want to care about things like (ep 7 spoilers) the fact that the Republic planet got destroyed, because they just kind of threw that detail in there after the fact in the movie. Otherwise it's just a sloppily written rehash of Episode 4 and not a standalone fully baked continuation of the story from 6.

lol, like the third mission where you steal the supplies for the robbery, there's a part where you have to lasso a guy, tie him up and put him on your horse.

Channel Zero is super unique and each season is a different plot and timeline with different actors, it's probably the best horror show I've watched besides Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. I figure you are getting a lot of good movie recs, as a big horror fan myself I feel obligated to push these two shows. Neither are a big commitment either.

It's like trying to say, "The driving in GTA isn't realistic and it sucks, I'd rather have linear instanced races in a realistic game like Gran Turismo over a game with a big map and a story to it with shitty driving".

That's your prerogative, but it's also kind of silly. Dark Souls, like Gran Turismo, is a game centered predominantly on a specific gameplay aspect. The Witcher has *always* been about adventure and story with combat taking a lesser role. I like to think of it as more of an adult Legend of Zelda game.

2 was beautiful but it was a step back from 1 in many ways. Story decisions were blatantly obvious and the consequences frequently immediate, whereas in 1 your decisions usually didn't play out until later acts.

And the combat was so clunky feeling.

The game isn't trying to be Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls. It's specifically a role-playing game with action combat and a very strong sense of adventure.

Combat has *never* been a strong point of the Witcher series. The fact that it was as fluid and engaging as it is in 3 was a very great change from 2 and 1, but the main point of the game is telling a story in an immersive world.

Gonna try it again today... I know nothing's going to be different. Didn't get any help on the RDR2 subreddit.

I disabled a lot of effects and that helped when playing the game but then when it went to a cutscene the shit was flashing even worse than before.

I live in Maryland - you're lucky to see drivers here use turn signals at all, and if they do it's never properly. And it's not just MD drivers, it's DC/VA/PA.

I really expected more from Rockstar, like I had heard some stories but didn't expect this.

I was just in a cutscene inside and kept seeing these annoying white things popping up all over and I thought it was supposed to be simulating an old film reel but I think it was the snow particles. And there's no way to turn them off and at medium quality they look like shit and at low quality it's just annoying visual white noise.

Does it require you to launch it through steam then Rockstar to play?

I've been holding out on getting it as I've read about so many issues with the pc version.

So, it installs the Rockstar Games launcher / Social Club, which looks like it's 340 MB of space on its own. It's all fairly transparent though - when you launch the game from Steam you see the RSC splash screen pop up for a few moments and then the game starts. It's not as invasive as Uplay it seems like.

I would say that I got to the second part of the introduction, where it's now snowing and sunny, and things are flickering. At first I thought it was the foggy snow effect, then I thought it was the shadows from the mountain outcroppings and then the whole sky was flickering.

I haven't had a chance to touch it - was on the phone for the past hour or so - but I'm gonna try to disable SLI once I know the game's saved so I don't have to replay all this >_>

Triss is a hella manipulative chick who mostly uses Geralt at least in the beginning.

The Yennefer stuff does surprise me too, though. Triss is there from the first game, you spend a lot of the second game looking for her...

They barely mention Yennefer at all in the first game, she's in a few cutscenes in the second game, and then she almost completely replaces Triss in the third game. I didn't like that - I wanted more Triss!
