So far its kinda underwhelming

the HUD felt very cluttered so I changed the setting to small, even though it still feels like the screen is cluttered with HUD.

combat is hard to adjust to, especially since I just got off from playing Sekiro. It doesnt hold a candle to sekiros combat. Just feels like theres no weight to his attacks at all.

didnt expect him to sound like a young solid snake, expected a deeper voice for some reason

also mark Hamil shouldnt play his master in the show, I definitely picture Anthony Hopkins.

going to hold my final judgement till I finish the game + dlc though. But so far it seems very overrated

Actually his attacks do have weight. You can turn on the alternate movement in the settings to be weightless like you want.

It's because the weight in Witcher has momentum. If you spam your shit your momentum from the blows will get you killed. The games you are talking about have weight, but no momentum to the movement.

The game isn't trying to be Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls. It's specifically a role-playing game with action combat and a very strong sense of adventure.

Combat has *never* been a strong point of the Witcher series. The fact that it was as fluid and engaging as it is in 3 was a very great change from 2 and 1, but the main point of the game is telling a story in an immersive world.

Meh, I've always felt the combat is fine. It's pretty average and on about the same (to me) with games like AC, Arkham, and Middle Earth.

Considering it's a game you can easily sink 300 hours into, you need to give it time. I felt like the combat was just okay, but the rest of the game made up for it.

Anyway TC, it's a fun game, but it's a bit too long for my tastes. I have 94 hours in and I haven't completed the first DLC (of two, and I think the second one is way longer).

It's also extremely easy to over level, which will make the combat a lot less engaging. I play once in a while to progress, and usually I get away with just spamming light attacks until things die. I assume things will ramp up with the second DLC though.

Its not that weird to see BlueMonk melt down.

The guy went crazy the other day because people put soy sauce on rice.

Anyway, I cant wait to go back home to my Xbox to play W3, since its on GamePass and I need a game to play.

The combat is indeed trash. You have attack buttons, one magic button with 5 spells, only 2 we decent in combat iirc, and a crossbow that's forgotten an hour after getting it and that's it for the whole game. People say it's serviceable, and it is, but for a game with this much content it's obvious why the combat drags it down seeing as it doesn't develop much if at all past the first hour.

But I've only played like 25 so far, maybe 30 total. Maybe it develops past that point, Idk. But in doing the same shit in combat now that I did at the start.

Crossbow is more a utility weapon.

Although I almost exclusively use it because it makes flying enemies fall from the air.

The witcher contracts are some of the high points of that game.

For me, its all about characters, story, dialogues and choices. The whole adventure with geralt was great.

And as @lilORANG said, the expansions are SOOO good.

2 was beautiful but it was a step back from 1 in many ways. Story decisions were blatantly obvious and the consequences frequently immediate, whereas in 1 your decisions usually didn't play out until later acts.

And the combat was so clunky feeling.

and no way in hell this game is better than dark souls.

id rather have a smaller map and simplistic gameplay with fantastic combat over a gigantic map with complex decisions and mediocre combat

simplicity is key to good gaming and people forget that.

1 is totally different. It's big problem is that you generally won fights with preparation, with your only real inputs in combat being which style you're using and the occasional sign that counters the monster. You win by knowledge, which is cool in its own way, but your in combat inputs aren't that interesting.

2 is very similar to 3. So similar in fact that I can't enumerate the differences aside from how potions work.

I don't know why you keep comparing the game to Dark Souls/Sekiro - it's not a DS/Sekiro game and it never tried to be.

It's like trying to say, "The driving in GTA isn't realistic and it sucks, I'd rather have linear instanced races in a realistic game like Gran Turismo over a game with a big map and a story to it with shitty driving".

That's your prerogative, but it's also kind of silly. Dark Souls, like Gran Turismo, is a game centered predominantly on a specific gameplay aspect. The Witcher has *always* been about adventure and story with combat taking a lesser role. I like to think of it as more of an adult Legend of Zelda game.
