Topic | Using gay as an insult |
nemu 11/27/19 3:06:11 PM #74 | Wetterdew posted... There's only one case I can imagine where you could use the word gay as an insult innocuously. If we're talking about somebody (a child maybe) who has no idea what the word gay means and only knows it as a synonym of "bad" because that's how they've heard other people use it. Then I'd agree that is an instance where somebody is using it as an insult without any intention of associating it with its main usage.I feel like you're putting way too much weight on it. I'd agree that a gay person would be justified in being offended regardless of context, but I disagree that it inherently carries ill intent. I feel that's the same with the r-word. I feel it's much divorced from the connotation of people on the spectrum. |

nemu 11/27/19 2:50:36 PM #71 | Wetterdew posted... When people say "that's gay" as a way to try to mock something or express that they don't like it, it's inherently disrespecting gay people by equating the word gay with bad things. They are literally calling something gay, you can't act like there's no correlation with gay people. It's entirely possible to use a word and have absolutely no intention of associating it with the root definition. It doesn't make the context of the root definition disappear entirely, which is why I'd never say "it's not offensive, full stop," but the intended context does not need to be purposely offensive. It also doesn't take away from the chunk of people that do use it in a purposely offensive manner. My whole point is that it's impossible to make a single judgement call on the topic. |

nemu 11/27/19 2:31:56 PM #63 | Wetterdew posted... Can you give an example of using gay as an insult that is not inherently disrespectful to gay people?"That's gay" with no particular emphasis on the correlation to gay people. As I said, it will offend some people regardless of intentions behind it. It's not the kind of speech I'd use, but people have and will use it in such a manner. I would agree it's juvenile, but it doesn't make someone a horrible person either. |
Topic | Using gay as an insult |
nemu 11/27/19 2:19:49 PM #50 | I feel it's sort of like the r-word. There are purposely offensive applications and applications that have evolved away from the actual definition of the word. Both are certainly offensive to certain people regardless of context, but trying to act as the moral arbiters of speech seems pretty frivolous at the end of the day. |

nemu 11/27/19 11:33:21 AM #10 | I would write a 20 page glowing review of literally any horrible act in this world for that amount. You'd have better luck with "$100 million but you're publicly known as a Holocaust denier." |
Topic | ICE creates fake university, arrests foreign students who signed up |
nemu 11/27/19 11:12:58 AM #16 | I'm confused. Was it a legit university where they managed to catch people who then illegally overstayed their visas, or did they create a situation in which a bunch of people came over for nothing and then fucked them over? |
Topic | I don't get the whole race thing tbh |
nemu 11/27/19 10:13:07 AM #11 | Humans naturally form in groups and out groups. Skin color is the easiest way to judge, so that's been a big thing for a long time now. But even without that, you have religion, where you're from, what you believe, political opinions, sexuality etc. We'd naturally find ways of being shitty to each other even if everyone had the same skin color. |
Topic | I need to understand why I'm in the wrong here. |
nemu 11/25/19 6:49:09 PM #23 | If she was asking you to go in a chaperone position, it'd make sense, but it otherwise sounds like she thinks you or your sister would enjoy having the other around at an event for children. That just seems like a misguided attempt at family time. It would make more sense to go out somewhere after the event. |

Topic | Is pirating video games "stealing"? |
nemu 11/24/19 7:24:07 PM #101 | Nah. It's illegal, but it does not inherently deprive anyone of anything. You'd need to be able to prove intent to buy it to claim that it's equal to theft. |

nemu 11/23/19 3:13:17 PM #7 | Asian countries naturally seem very collectivist, so throwing a form of communism on top of that just brings it to the very extreme. |
Topic | Do you respect people who stream video games for a living? |
nemu 11/22/19 8:51:29 PM #2 | Yes. There are likely a select few that make a shit load of money for comparatively little work, but most of them have to put in an effort equaling or exceeding a real job. |

nemu 11/22/19 3:25:12 PM #99 | CyricZ posted... Cool. When are you gonna answer the question I asked about what you think we should do about racial "natural advantages"? That's always a nonsensical take. Transwomen are transwomen. They are not "women born with a natural advantage over other women." They are male-bodied individuals who make a purposeful transition to their desired body state out of mental health concerns. I'm not of the "they're men" camp, but they also do not just fit completely into all the roles of biological women. |

nemu 11/22/19 12:20:32 PM #22 | Antifar posted... What's the userbase for Victoria's Secret? There's only so many supermodels out there. The demographics of the userbase don't matter. It matters what the userbase wants to see representing the company. I'd imagine the majority of fat people don't want to see similarly fat people on a walkway. Only the people who make being fat a personality trait care. |
Topic | No Victoria Secret show this year due to Epstein, and denying us size and trans |
nemu 11/22/19 12:08:20 PM #14 | There are some spaces that don't need to be inclusive. We don't need to cater to every demographic in every space. I don't get why businesses cater to one thousand people bitching on Twitter and one hundred starving "journalists" when their vast userbases doesn't care. |

Topic | Do you care about the Impeachment process anymore? |
nemu 11/19/19 1:13:34 PM #10 | I honestly don't care whatsoever outside of that anyone who commits a crime should face the penalty, but I am resigned to the rich and powerful getting away with it. |
Topic | Don't settle for the current product because it could always be better. |
nemu 11/19/19 12:32:33 PM #16 | It depends entirely on how much the product is garbage. That would be true for garbage like the most recent Paper Mario games. Everyone bought Sticker Star, so they made another. Comparatively nobody bought ME Andromeda, so they shelved it and didn't push out a sequel. |
Topic | Why do some people think playing video games in your 30s and 40s is weird? |
nemu 11/19/19 12:02:58 PM #12 | I guess you need to read physical books once per year and watch irrelevant nightime talk shows and news programs. That's the true way to adult. |

Topic | How does the diamond industry stay in business? |
nemu 11/17/19 7:34:44 PM #10 | People like shiny things and expensive things. Much of the world has been convinced that diamonds are both through constant marketing. Now it's also a social thing where people feel pressured to buy them and people highly desire them. |

Topic | Your reaction: Canada legalizes murder. |
nemu 11/17/19 4:12:56 PM #23 | electricbugs2 posted... Youre just continually proving you have absolutely no idea what youre talking about. Just shut up already, god damn. What exactly are you trying to say? Just because you view something as a major issue locally does not make it major elsewhere. Ten murders in a place with a 0.00 murder rate per 100k would be a big deal for them, but not for you. |
Topic | Your reaction: Canada legalizes murder. |
nemu 11/17/19 4:03:20 PM #21 | It's probably a problem for a Canadian city, but it's still a minor problem relative to places with high gang activity like the US. Even if this gang violence caused murders to spike by 1000%, which I'm certain is not the case, you're still looking at only 150 murders in one city. |
Topic | Your reaction: Canada legalizes murder. |
nemu 11/17/19 3:50:45 PM #18 | electricbugs2 posted... Bro. I live two hours from Vancouver. Vancouver Police have a dedicated gang task force. Stop being ignorant. There being a problem does not make it a major problem, at least relative to the rest of the world. This hypothetical would not cause untold chaos in a place that had 15 murders in 2018. |
Topic | Your reaction: Canada legalizes murder. |
nemu 11/17/19 3:33:48 PM #15 | I'm pretty sure the total murders in Canada in a yearly basis is equal to a single US state, so they certainly could not have anything I'd quality as "major" gang issues. Do such a thing in the US, and I'm sure gang related murders would spike like 10,000%. The percentage for Canada would certainly not be so great even if you did both at a per capita rate. |
Topic | Do you think Microsoft will turn its fortunes around with the XBox Scarlett? |
nemu 11/17/19 2:05:03 PM #4 | I honestly can't name a single first party title for Xbox outside of Halo, so they definitely need more of those if they want purchases. |
Topic | Your reaction: Canada legalizes murder. |
nemu 11/17/19 1:45:25 PM #11 | It would definitely spike murders way up, but I doubt it would affect daily life that much. The number of people with a natural impetus to murder is definitely very low. It would affect any area with gang violence the most. I really can't imagine Canada with a major gang violence problem. |

nemu 11/14/19 5:32:20 PM #19 | Darmik posted... I don't think it's obvious in the trailer but I don't know how you could possibly make that distinction. This is the kind of talking point that will likely be at the head of every news article about the game. Even if the developers don't push it, it will definitely become associated with it regardless. |
Topic | Life is Strange developers are making a game with a transgendered lead character |
nemu 11/14/19 5:27:39 PM #17 | Darmik posted... What do you mean from a marketing perspective? If the point is to get PR for sales, then I doubt this is going to bring in any. It may even turn people away, regardless if it's from pure bigotry or simply having little interest in a narrative involving a transperson. It could just be they want to explore characterization that hasn't been explored in a mainstream game regardless of whether it's positive or negative for sales, which is perfectly fine. |
Topic | Life is Strange developers are making a game with a transgendered lead character |
nemu 11/14/19 5:24:05 PM #14 | I don't really see the point from a marketing perspective, but there's certainly nothing wrong with a company making a game however they want to make it. |
Topic | How do you feel about white privilege? |
nemu 11/14/19 4:38:43 PM #28 | I think the biggest issue is trying to use it on the level of individuals in the first place. I don't think there's anything wrong with saying such things based on averages. The second someone says "you have white privilege" or "your white privilege", they've lost the plot. No individual has inherent privlages. It all depends on where they live and who they live with. The idea of mass privilege comes from inspecting a large amount of cases where individuals of one particular grouping of people have certain experiences or don't have certain experiances. But that's just that, an average. |
