ah, yeah. i wasn't even thinking about it that way. but it does provide kind of a subconscious hint to that as well. but yeah, i was hoping the "herded" and the way they are summarily executed, and as you said the "his men" suggesting military, would be enough to paint the picture of the warrior-monks' situation. having only 50 words for getting everything you want to get across is hard lol. especially when you're like me and like to do vignettes that are from a larger narrative, instead of being entirely self-contained. i do do those too every once in awhile though. they are usually easier.

I think theres definite subconscious stuff going on there. I notice it too with my own story where I go man I didnt plan that, but it works

the 50 word limit is fun and definitely helps you think more about your words. Which is something we should always be doing Anyways haha

just so I have it right, the scene is a man sacrificing a bunch of people in order to give motivation to his own men, or at least put the fear of god into them lest they revolt?

i will say that more and more people i talk to here in CA want to move

like 10 years ago, most people loved CA (myself included)

but now it does seem like crime is getting more frequent...no idea why though. I wont make any claim as to a cause

but I've had my place broken into twice and my car broken into 3 times over the last 4 years.

Prior to that i can't really remember any other instance other than once in 2006 when I lived in a shithole apartment...but that was a crap part of town. Last couple of times happened in a decent area.

Tons of edits is what I always expect, but tonight I will try to end it completely then do a complete read through some time tomorrow. Then jump into the editing after that.

Nice. Do you let it sit at all? I did a week at first, but it didn't seem to take. Then I did a month and you definitely notice how shitty your writing is (well..how shitty MY writing is hah) after that long. Some say 6 months but no way.

Been away for a while but really pounding out some pages of work. I think I've put together almost forty-five pages, and the ending is drawing to a close.

I still have to do a lot of finishing touches, and the I will do a whole read through of it without any corrections, but I will have my handy dandy notebook near by to tag some notes of improvement to the story.

Just finished chapter 33 on my rewrite. It's definitely satisfying looking at a clunky paragraph...trying to figure out how to word a certain chunk of info, then realizing most of it is unnecessary and you just axe it. Much easier and brevity is always a good thing

take everyday objects and try to transform them into a name. This is more for fantasy where you're literally making up much more than I have to make up with something taking place in our own world.

So napkin can change to n'pakin or some weird apostrophe driven name

thats a terrible example but you get it

i just use dummy names...so whatever really first comes to mind

then i write using that dummy name knowing that i'll find replace after im done, that way it doesn't stop me from writing.

then , after writing so much with that name, I realize just how perfect it is

then, I realize how immaterial names can be (in genre fiction like what I write...those literary folk always have reasons....)

it was about 4-5 hours a night of solid writing each time...then all day long thinking about how to get the characters out of the predicament I put them in the night before

but I was basically thinking about it all day long every day

I banged out the first 60k words in 4 weeks, and another 20k in 3 weeks.

The editing is less creative and more structured so you have to think a bit more instead of just letting things flow.

But no the editing is going faster. It's just something I've read like 7 times now lmao but thats okay its still fun to read and fix.

31 done, 46 to go.

This is the tough part...feels like it'll never end.

over the weekend, I stood up too fast and ended up passing out from a blood rush to the head....fell straight on my face and woke up like 10 seconds later...it still hurts!

there's a scene i just editing where they jump from a plane and the MC doesn't know how to land on a parachute so he ends up beefing it.

I had him stand right up in draft 1 but decided to make him sit down and take his time a bit more since I now know the feeling haha

wow, i totally forgot until now that today is Friday, and there's a new Fifty Word Fantasy prompt. i was too focused on my outline earlier today to remember about the weekly prompt, cuz there were some clips in my youtube recommendations of the "Ancient Aliens" show on History that i watched, and they sparked some ideas in me since my own setting has a history from about 2000 years ago in it of alien subjugators and genetic manipulation and stuff, so i worked on fleshing out a few ideas related to that. maybe i should binge that show for ideas. i think it's on Hulu.

but i guess a lot of others forgot about the prompt too cuz there aren't many submissions this week. the theme is "Shop". my entry has to do with some price-fixing and market manipulation behind the scenes in my setting:

so anyway, yeah, you guys should try it. like i said, i think it's a good exercise in brevity.

Dranko moved fast for a dwarf. Franks Beard Accessories closed in five minutes and this was urgent. His date would never take him seriously with a beard so unkempt.

Went to B&N today to check out the shelves and see what was in the displays

two takeaways

1. I need to jam the word "Girl" into my title somehow despite it not being about a girl if I want the front display.

2. Strangely, there wasn't a thriller section. Not sure if this isn't unique to this location but most of the thrillers (patterson, child, preston, dan brown, etc) were under the plain ole "Fiction" section haha. I could have sworn I remembered a thriller section there but no dice.

I guess its more mainstream fiction...which is where I want to be. My book has a mystery which drives it, but its not a mystery mystery that a person who likes the genre would be satisfied with.

I'm up to chapter 18 in my rewrite / edit

Coming up with new stuff is definitely more enjoyable than editing existing stuff

but there is a small buzz that comes from taking a sloppy sentence or paragraph, and honing it in. Then you reread it and realize its a tight bit of prose.
