Why didnt they list the movies that they felt should have been nominated? A list of womens names means little to me

There is a lot of articles on this and another has the films the people mad felt should have been recognized.

Some predicted Greta Gerwig would snag a nod for directing "Little Women." Others believed Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"), Lorene Scafaria ("Hustlers") and Lulu Wang ("The Farewell") were also strong contenders.

At the crack of dawn on the West Coast, the nominations for the 77th Golden Globes, put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were announced. Here are some quick takeaways:

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association can't see women*: Wow. WOW. Cline Sciamma. Alma Harel. Greta Gerwig. Marielle Heller. Lulu Wang. Lorene Scafaria. Olivia Wilde. Mati Diop. NONE of these women who directed some of the greatest movies in this cycle were nominated in the "Best Director" category, a major and embarrassing snub for the HFPA. Not only were they shut out from this race, but from the "Best Motion Picture" categories as well. As the LA Times points out, only male-directed films were nominated in both the drama and comedy/musical categories. The only female-directed films up for nomination in broader categories were Jennifer Lee's Frozen 2 in the animated film category and The Farewell and Portrait of a Lady on Fire in the foreign-language category. Since the uproar over the snubs this morning, the HFPA president Lorenzo Soria broke out an argument familiar to anyone who has brought up gender parity, ever. "What happened is that we dont vote by gender. We vote by film and accomplishment, Soria told Variety. Barry Adelman, an executive producer of the Globes, also said, " I also think that if you look at some of the other thingsa lot of the big television shows are created by women, so I think across the board there is a good representation." Oh shove it! *In the 77-year long history of the awards ceremony, only five female directors have been nominated

Best Supporting Actor hasn't changed since 1994: In general, the acting categories are pretty white this year (as usual), but I wanted to point this out because there are a bunch of old-head actors being nominated: Al Pacino, Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Joe Pesci, Tom Hanks. The 70s, 80s, 90s are alive and well my friends. Looking purely at the names in this category, it's as if the last three decades never even happened. No way an actor under 50 gave a good performance this year, nope.

Netflix has a strong showing: The streaming giant has 17 nominations, the most of any studio. HBO is close on its tail with 15 nominations.

The "Bong Hive" is PRESENT and ready to fucking go: It's weird how foreign-language films are boxed into a category all their own, as the best film of the year is often not in English. In any case, Bong Joon-ho's incredible Parasite is nominated in the foreign picture, screenplay, and director categories.

Silver Kanye debuted at yesterdays performance of Mary, the second Bible-and Yeezy-centric pseudo-opera West has put on within the last month. As is appropriate for any retelling of Christs birth in a humble manger, Wests take on a nativity play was held at the Miami Marine Stadium and, according to Pitchforks summary, was accessible only via motorboat. In a special, festive touch, nearly all of the performers dressed inand had their faces paintedsilver, including the star of the hour himself. They performed a mix of songs from Wests catalogue and Christmas hymns and, in a show of seasonal humility, wrapped things up by returning Silver Kanye to his home planet in a fancy boat while the orchestra played them off.

https://people.com/food/police-respond-spilled-krispy-kreme-delivery/

A Georgia community north of Atlanta is in need of thoughts and prayers after a tragic donut accident Tuesday morning involving a food delivery truck. The Brookhaven police department responded to a call shortly after 7:30 a.m., arriving on the scene to what authorities are calling total carnage. What responding officers found on arrival is every officers worst nightmare dozens of glazed Krispy Kreme donuts, scattered neglectfully across the ground. Just moments ago, your #BrookhavenPolice officers answered the call each of us fears most , the department shared in a statement on Facebook after the tragedy. Dozens of donuts fell from a Krispy Kreme delivery truck as it drove along Peachtree Road. . BPD rushed to the scene (), but to no avail. We found total carnage, the statement continued, adding that the donuts were scattered along the curb and heres the worst of it the gutter. THE GUTTER, people!!! police lamented in the statement.

Police who first arrived on the scene tried their best to rescue any surviving donuts, but it was sadly too late: The response time was stellar, but we couldnt beat the 5 second rule . We are deeply saddened to report that the donuts were a total loss . Brookhavens officers are calling on help from the public during this difficult time, and the BPD condemned the senseless loss that took place on Tuesday morning. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time, and the senseless loss of these delicious pastries has deeply affected all of our officers , their statement concluded. We ask that you keep our department in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn this terrible moment. An outpouring of support flooded the BPDs Facebook feed throughout the day, and the nearby Gainesville police department sent their condolences in the form of an intact box of donuts with a note that read, sorry for your loss, hope this helps. My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Brookhaven PD. Such a significant loss, one Facebook user commented, while another pointed out that Facebook might want to sensor the photos shared by the BPD as sensitive content. I feel like Facebook should hide this photo and ask if you want it uncovered as it is so graphic, they wrote.

Rapper Juice Wrld reportedly died after suffering convulsions and a heart attack while airport security was scouring his luggage for drugs and guns. The Chicago-born Jarad Higgins, whod turned 21 days before collapsing at Midway Airport early Sunday morning and dying an hour later in an area hospital, had arrived on a private plane coming from Los Angeles. Suspecting he was carrying illegal contraband, feds were waiting when Higgins cross-country flight touched down, according to the Chicago Tribune. A pair of security guards travelling with Higgins in his roughly 12-person entourage were reportedly busted on gun charges. The rapper died around 3 a.m.

TMZ reported that the search netted 70 pounds of marijuana. The gossip outlet also cited sources saying Higgins popped several pills prior to suffering seizures.

https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2485658/jeopardy-champ-brad-rutter-won-more-money-but-knows-why-ken-jennings-is-more-famous

As the weeks tick down to Jeopardy!'s big "Greatest Of All Time" tournament, there has been a lot of chatter about the match up between Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer. Of course, more dedicated fans will point out they aren't the only two competing, and that Brad Rutter should be regarded as just as fierce of a competitor as either man. If that's the case though, why isn't the general public more aware of him? It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Brad Rutter has an answer. Though Rutter is the overall winnings record holder of Jeopardy!, he believes more folks know about Ken Jennings due to the time he spent on television. If you want to be really famous you have to go on TV every day. Ken was on for 6 months because he had the summer break in between. He played two months, then the summer break, then four months...I remember back then it was a big media story. It makes sense.

Brad Rutter believes that Ken Jennings' long television run is why he's the bigger household name when people think of past Jeopardy! champions. The same is probably true of James Holzhauer, who had a 32-game streak earlier in 2019. Holzhauer also made news due to his astonishing single-day totals and the way he gamed Jeopardy! to his advantage in a way other contestants hadn't. Holzhauer's play style put him in striking distance of Ken Jennings, so of course the media covered it again. Brad Rutter does not have an impressive consecutive game run, but it's worth mentioning he comes from an era where Jeopardy! wouldn't allow such a thing. Game rules required Rutter retire after a consecutive 5-day streak, which may make his overall winnings record all the more impressive. A bulk of Rutter's money comes from tournaments he's been invited back for, in which he defeated other Jeopardy! champions including Ken Jennings.

In an interview with the Telegraph, the actor delved into the trajectory of his career, and some of the struggles hes faced. And James McAvoy revealed that his 5 7 height has caused him a few problems both on and off set over the years: As a shorter man, I sometimes get told Im too short for a role. Or even when I get a role, Im made to feel like, well, of course, were going to have to do something about that because nobody would believe [the character] would be with someone like her. That was a kick in the nuts.

While he didnt reveal what co-star he was referring to, James McAvoy said that an actress once implied that she thought he was too short to be cast opposite her. It understandably made their time on set challenging: I was like, All right, now Ive got to pretend that I really like you for eight more weeks. This is going to be really tough, because youre so far up yourself. It got really interesting, that relationship. Sometimes youre made to feel like youre not good-looking enough to get a role.

https://www.tmz.com/2019/12/05/kanye-west-joel-osteen-yankee-stadium-choir-americas-night-of-hope-2020/

Kanye West is going from the big stage at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church to a truly massive one -- this time they'll be teaming up to fill Yankee Stadium to the brim ... TMZ has learned. Sources close to Kanye tell us ... Ye and Joel will take center stage at baseball's cathedral on May 2, 2020 for a mega event that certainly plays like a tour stop. The NYC event is part of Joel's "America's Night of Hope" ... which he takes to several cities across the country. We're told Joel will do his sermon at Yankee Stadium, and then let Kanye and his choir do their thing with the music. Call it a double play, considering the setting, similar to what they did a few weeks ago in Houston.

If Joel's past appearances at Yankee Stadium are any indication, this one's sure to sell out quickly ... especially now that Kanye's involved. The stadium has a max capacity of 54,251 ... almost 10,000 more than Lakewood. This will be Joel's third time doing 'Night of Hope' at the Stadium, but his first with Ye. Our sources tell us the Lakewood get-together went so well, Joel recently asked Kanye about when they will do a sequel ... and they agreed Yankee Stadium would be the perfect backdrop. They're coordinating details now. As far as how much these tickets might go for ... they could be decently priced. Past tickets for 'Night of Hope' sermons have gone for $15 a pop, but nothing's set in stone quite yet.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/49ers/article/49ers-suspend-broadcaster-Tim-Ryan-for-saying-14882642.php

The 49ers have suspended Tim Ryan, their radio color analyst, over comments he made on a Bay Area sports talk radio show Monday in which he said Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is black, is exceptional at faking handoffs because of his dark skin color with a dark football. The comments came in the first couple of minutes of Ryans weekly segment with KNBRs Murph and Mac morning radio show as the hosts asked the San Jose native about Jacksons performance in Sundays 20-17 victory over the 49ers. Jackson, a front-runner to be named NFL MVP, rushed and passed for more than 100 yards in a game between two of the leagues top teams. Jackson gained most of his yards running a zone-read type offense, in which he frequently fakes a handoff to a running back before keeping the ball to run himself. Hes really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing, Ryan said on air. I mean, you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point, and if youre a half step slow on him in terms of your vision, forget about it, hes out of the gate. Team officials said in a statement to The Chronicle on Wednesday that they are disappointed in Ryans comments and are suspending him for the upcoming game.

Dr. Harry Edwards, a sociologist, longtime civil rights activist and 49ers consultant, listened to the radio clip and said he was particularly troubled that Ryans comments perpetuated the bigotry involving black players and particularly the quarterback position. I know Tim and he is not of a maleficent mind relative to these types of issues but of course that does not mean that he gets or should get a pass regarding his comments on Lamar Jackson and assigning ANY dimension of Lamars undeniable brilliance at QB to his skin color a raw and sensitive assessment and assertion not only because it is profoundly obtuse and ignorant on its face and carries implications that Im certain were not intended, but because skin color has been such a factor in rationalizing denial of Black athletes opportunities to play the QB position over most of the NFLs 100 years of existence, Edwards wrote in an email to The Chronicle before Ryan was suspended. But again, no less damaging than the fact of Tims sentiments are their implications. In a game that is so competitive and where winning edges and even slight advantages tend to be critically important if not determinant, are we really to believe that White QBs are at a strategic disadvantage? Should the 2020 NFL player draft select for dark-skinned, athletic QB prospects in search of the next Lamar Jackson? Or maybe this puts a premium on QBs irrespective of race who can play well wearing the right color gloves gloves that will give them the right hand hue to camouflage the football on handoffs.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/charlize-theron-says-awkward-she-185810633.html

Charlize Theron is already earning Oscar buzz for her performance as Megyn Kelly in Bombshell, but the actress had doubts about accepting the role of the former Fox News anchor. In an interview with the New York Times, Theron described what she learned by playing Kelly in the film and said that friends had an "awkward" reaction to her gig. "It was definitely awkward," Theron explained. "In a weird way, the judgment [Megyn] gets from a lot of people, I felt on me a little bit. But up until four weeks into shooting, I was still grappling with who she was as a person, and it wasnt until I really zeroed in on that year and a half of the story that I could actually defend her."

Kelly was one of the many women to come forward accusing Roger Ailes, the longtime chairman of Fox News, of sexual harassment. The film walks a fine line, according to the New York Times, of portraying the journalist as sympathetic when it comes the harassment she faced, while also including her more controversial moments like when she insisted on-air in 2013 that "Santa just is white." "There are things she has said that Ive definitely had issues with, but it doesnt invalidate how I feel about her struggle," explained Theron. "Avoiding all of that stuff to get an emotional arc out of her character, I just didnt want to be a part of that." Theron continued, "By the way, if this was a movie about me and I hope nobody ever does one it would be filled with flaws and mistakes, and I wouldnt want somebody to take those things away. I really do believe that what she and those women went through was messed up, even though they work for a network that I highly have issues with." "I would imagine that as the mother of two black children, you didnt relish re-enacting her 'Santa is white' segment," remarked the New York Times reporter. "Thank you!" Theron "emphatically" replied. "Yeah, that was hard for me."

The new Harley Quinn animated series had to abandon a version of Aquaman that exaggerated the bro type portrayed by Jason Momoa, according to its showrunner. Harley Quinn, which includes The Big Bang Theorys Kaley Cuoco voicing the titular DC character, includes Aquaman as part of its ensemble. However, showrunner Justin Halpern has revealed that they toned-down an initial version of the superhero that was ridiculous after pressure from DC. We kept in almost everything, he told Metro. The only thing we took out, that we were asked to take out by DC, was we had a take on Aquaman that I think was in a direction I dont think they wanted Aquaman to go down. [In the film] Jason Momoa is kind of a bro type, like fraternity type and so we dialled that up to like one thousand, and I think it made the character too ridiculous even for them. So then we put a new take on the character.

Halpern also explained why Margot Robbie did not voice the role of Quinn, despite appearing in DCs movie universe as the character. Margot was never going to be able to do it because she was doing the Birds Of Prey film and a million other things, he explained. We talked with Margot a couple times but only in so much as, Heres what were doing, I dont know what you guys are doing. I think they wanted to make sure there wasnt too much overlap between this show and the movie.

Trumps reelection campaign announced Monday that Bloomberg News will be banned from covering the presidents rallies and events, citing the outlets openly declared Democratic bias. In a tersely-worded statement, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said the news organization was blacklisted in light of its recent announcement that it wont investigate its billionaire owner, Michael Bloomberg, or any other Democratic 2020 candidates, though it will keep pursuing hard-hitting journalism about Trump. We are accustomed to unfair reporting practices, but most news organizations dont announce their biases so publicly, Parscale said. Since they have declared their bias openly, the Trump campaign will no longer credential representatives of Bloomberg News for rallies or other campaign events.

Bloomberg News editor-in-chief John Micklethwait blasted Parscales claims as baseless. The accusation of bias couldnt be further from the truth," Micklethwait said in a statement. "We have covered Donald Trump fairly and in an unbiased way since he became a candidate in 2015 and will continue to do so despite the restrictions imposed by the Trump campaign. Howard Wolfson, a longtime Bloomberg adviser and campaign aide, took the Trump campaign announcement in stride. One week in and Mike is already under Trumps skin, Wolfson tweeted. Trump appeared to prove Wolfson right. Mini Mike Bloomberg has instructed his third rate news organization not to investigate him or any Democrat, but to go after President Trump, only, Trump tweeted. Its not O.K.!
