I remember when a bunch of clods got up in arms about Target refusing to stock GTA5 in Australia, calling it censorship. One chain refusing to stock one game, and suddenly it's all about the Australian police state, about how it's an affront to freedom that a business would opt out of selling a particular product for their own (admittedly stupid and short-sighted) reasons.

This is the point where I would have gotten up in arms about censorship. A store limiting access to this entire type of media, hiding away their video game stock to make them harder to find, out of an overblown and misguided idea of them causing violence. This has the potential to threaten the medium if adopted on a wider scale.

Of course, I've come to think that just about any self-identified gamer throws a lot of weighty words around in a disingenuous attempt to cause some amount of change, any amount of change, for once in their pathetic lives. Case in point, Gamergate.

I'm always going to keep an eye on games that interest me and how I'm going to be able to play them, even if there are forces that bar me from enjoying them. This scene will never die, games will always be distributed among those who want to play them. But if I was ever going to make a point about free speech, about willful misrepresentation of this hobby to sate a bunch of assholes about an unrelated phenomenon - this would be where I'd start.

If the popular vote is the only thing that should matter, tell me why any president would make any policies or do anything to help rural america or any other smaller/disadvantaged groups.

To A) honor any election promises they made during their campaign through rural America, and B) take care of the country at large. No leader should let their country rot from the inside and go to the dogs because "the numbers are in coastal cities, so we just gotta appease them.

Speaking to the "wow he's got an ethnic last name, a white supremacist group wouldn't let him in!" comment - as someone else stated in this thread, there was a point where Hispanic people were considered white and Irish people weren't. What people consider "white" changes based on the times, and whether white supremacy needs more blood to keep its movement strong.

They talk about blood purity, but the KKK from the early 1900's would probably be appalled at the prospect of Italian, Polish or Irish people joining their ranks. After all, these nationalities were all regarded as a different caste, mentally slow and leeching off of "true" Americans when they came to America as immigrants. Because groups like this thrive on an arrogant belief of superiority over others, especially foreigners who "don't preserve their way of life".

My belief is that it's not a problem to many modern white supremacists because these cultures have bled into everyday life - everyone loves pizza, everyone loves to drink themselves silly on St Patrick's Day. People whose grandparents fled "the Old Country" in decades past have grown up as naturalised American citizens, and shaken off the traits that older white supremacy groups would have cracked down upon. Which leads me to believe that it isn't ultimately the colour of one's skin that drives these racial supremacy groups - it's how "foreign" they are.

A theory I've heard about in the past is that when white nationalism succeeds, its base will begin to fracture and cannibalize itself. So you'll have the "true" whites, who'll being up the point that Italian, Polish and Irish people weren't considered white, and that their blood isn't pure compared to them. So after decades of falling into a white nationalist mindset, suddenly these groups are being slurred again. They're second-class citizens in the eyes of the "pure white American", discriminated against for their last names like the guy in the OP. Once white nationalism succeeds, the base will shrink and only those who deem themselves the purest will reap any sort of rewards. Any other nationality will be kicked to the curb.

But that doesn't matter right now, because they're white and they're angry. They're a part of the movement because they believe in a greater purpose due to the colour of their skin. But when push comes to shove, they're going to be thrown away like trash, just like every other race or culture that white supremacists despise.

I made this topic because it's frustrating to see so many Americans sit on the side lines while dozens of people are gunned down by psychopaths. Some shithead is profiting off of the fear that children will be shot at school - the solution hasn't been to watch gun purchases more closely, it hasn't been to keep a closer eye on the larger community. Security guards and metal detectors at schools helped, even though it was essentially sending children through a prison checkpoint every day with the amount of security there's been, but kids, teenagers and adults continue to be targeted in shootings that frequently fly up into double digits.

There's a reason why "No Way It Could Have Been Prevented', Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens" has become a meme. Everyone has eyes on America every time one of your rabid fucking mass murderers slaughters a dozen people. Australia has Brendon Tarrant, but A) we're fucking ashamed of him, called out exactly what he was aiming for in his attack and we've done what we can to limit attacks like his from occurring in the future, B) you guys lose a good dozen civilians to mass murder almost every month and C) your reaction is to give body armour to children whereas everywhere else has enacted legislation to better protect the public from getting shot in their homes, schools and places of worship.

You're the only first world nation who feels the need to give body armour to civilian children. That's fucking repulsive. And the rest of the developed world has to sit back and let our news feeds clog up with your dead children. We sit here with thumbs up our asses, unable to do anything, while you refuse to help yourself.

I read this via an MSN link, and after checking out the Atlantic website I'm sure there'll be people who won't click on the link here due to a far-left slant. But I found the interview incredibly engaging, and the guy being interviewed made some very compelling points.

The guy's name is Christian Picciolini, and he's spent the last 20 years disengaging white supremacists from their groups. He talks about his own experience, being recruited at a time in his life when he was looking to define his personality and take his own path. He disengaged some time in the late 90's, and he started on his current career path in the early 2000's after someone saw his tattoos and assumed he was still a white supremacist.

Since then, he says he's been able to disengage around 300 people from the white supremacist movement. And with his own experiences, both as a former insider and as a therapist who's been able to track trends from his clients in the last 30 or so years, he's come to some interesting conclusions.

A point he brings up is that white nationalist terrorists are competing. Not just with each other, like this El Paso dickhead who was directly inspired by the New Zealand mosque shootings, but ultimately with the Oklahoma City bomber who killed 100 people in 1995. With the rise of white nationalist terrorism, these instances of violence are getting more frequent and people are planning out mass-murders to further show the power of the movement.

In relation to that point - white nationalists aren't "lone wolves". They're being fed by these insular societies and becoming radicalized, they're being emboldened by other instances of radical violence. And with the internet being refuge to a lot of people who would be susceptible to this sort of recruitment, white supremacy has been on the rise. They've become more capable than ever, and they've been able to concentrate their efforts on making the movement mainstream.

Even back when this guy was a part of the white supremacist movement, there was a focus on - in his words - going from "boots to suits". Legitimising the viewpoints in the public consciousness so that they would be harder to challenge. A lot of this "great displacement" BS has been kicking around fringe groups for years, the guy who shot a Holocaust Museum guard in 2009 was linked to those conspiracy theories - and in the mid-10's, we had internet celebrities like JonTron spouting the same shit and saying "It's not racist, it's fact, I'm just worried about my country". The efforts to normalize this rhetoric are working.

Something he brings up in this interview that I found especially interesting is the difference in funding. Back in Christian's day, a lot of funding came from metal bands with links to white supremacist groups - capitalizing on fringe groups and appealing to their sound allowed hate groups to propagate, but it was harder to rustle up money like that. Today, white supremacists use social media and sell ads on their content. It's easier for hate groups to fund their efforts through these avenues, but - get this - that means that deplatforming hate groups is an effective strategy in preventing their spread, and not just by limiting their influence. People keep saying that we're driving extremists further to the fringe by deplatforming them and we should let them spout whatever they want and condemn it as it comes - but deplatforming hate groups helps to eliminate funding, which leads to a weaker effort on their part.

Call the Atlantic whatever you want, but I thoroughly enjoyed this interview and I think it brings up a lot of good points.

The Zigzagoon line is my favorite gen 3 line, and Dark is my favorite Pokemon type. I was already considering Pokemon SwSh, but this confirms it.

Edit: the Trapinch line is actually my favorite gen 3 line, but Linoone is like a staple Pokemon when it comes to Pokemon Emerald.

"MAGA Bomber" Cesar Sayoc was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday for sending 16 mail bombs to 13 people around the United States last year, including leading critics of President Donald Trump such as former President Barack Obama, ex-Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, actor Robert De Niro and financier George Soros.

"I am beyond so very sorry for what I did," Sayoc said before he was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Manhattan by Judge Jed Rakoff, according to the Courthouse News Service.

"Now that I am a sober man, I know that I was a very sick man," Sayoc reportedly said. "I wish more than anything that I could turn back time and take back what I did ... I feel the pain and suffering of these victims."

But Rakoff said, "The nature and circumstances of the instant offenses are, by any measure, horrendous."

"While none of the devices exploded ... at the very least they were intended to strike fear and terror into the minds of their victims and to intimidate those victims, mostly prominent political figures, from exercising their freedom."

Rakoff noted that Sayoc, even if he proves to be a model prison, "will be about 75 years old before he can be released."

"No one can pretend this is not, in real terms, substantial punishment; but in the Court's view, it is no more, and no less, than [what] he deserves," Rakoff said.

Sayoc, a 57-year-old Florida resident whose own lawyers called him "a Donald Trump super-fan," pleaded guilty on March 21 to 65 criminal counts, which included using weapons of mass destruction and illegal mailing of explosives with intent to kill or injure. Prosecutors said Sayoc's crimes amounts to a "domestic terrorist attack."

Prosecutors had asked Rakoff to sentence the former exotic dancer and steroid abuser to life in prison for the mail bombing spree.

Sayoc's other intended targets including news network CNN, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former CIA Director John Brennan, Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Tom Steyer, a billionaire now running for the Democratic presidential nomination with Booker and Harris.

The packages carried a return address of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., former chief of the Democratic National Committee.

None of the homemade bombs exploded, and "would not have functioned as designed," according to prosecutors.

But they noted that Sayoc packed PVC pipes with explosive powder and glass shards, along with pool chemicals to "increase the chances of burning the skin of" his targets.

"The defendant's terrorist attack was the culmination of years of violent and hate-filled threats, months of planning, and days of carefully assembling the explosive mailings while proudly monitoring media coverage of the widespread panic he induced," prosecutors said in their sentencing memorandum filing July 22.

"It is clear that the defendant perpetrated this attack intending to injure and silence public servants and private citizens based on their civic activities, and to intimidate like-minded people from entering the public arena and participating in discourse that is critical to the proper functioning of this country."

But if nothing else, Trump's constant deflection, blaming everything other than his policies or his base, mis-attributing right-wing violence to some radical left or video games or "rapist, murderers and drug dealers" from across the border - everything he's done has muddied the water and made it harder to have any sort of constructive conversation or pinpoint where shit is going wrong. The second some stupid fucking lie passes between his lips, he and his base of sycophants drown out everyone else and refuse to budge on it, except to blame something else that's equally as wrong.

By setting the conversation back like that, he's been able to create/deepen numerous rifts in your country, and assholes like these shooters start to fall through. It seems like more American blood is being shed every year as extremists grow to be more extreme, and I don't think it's inaccurate to attribute the effects of Trump's leadership as a cause of this.

But even addressing these issues - no, Trump doesn't have as much blood on his hands as Bush does. He's fucked your country six ways from Sunday, and it could be decades before the damage he's caused can begin to be rectified - but I don't think the death and destabilisation that's occurred in the middle east as a result of Bush's war on terror is comparable to the violence faced by everyday US citizens in the 2010's. A lot of Americans are being murdered, I'll give you that, but I don't believe for a second that you're losing more civilians than Iraq was when the US started dropping bombs.

I bought a bottle of Hendricks Gin online. I've seen ads for months, and it has a very nice, clean bottle that stands out from other gins. I read the back label, and on top of your standard botanicals like juniper and citrus peel, they also infused this gin with cucumber and rose petals.

I also got myself some Capi tonic, and this fancy aromatic tonic water from Fever-Tree. I won't have enough to get me through the bottle, which means I'll be finishing it with Schweppes or Kirks tonic.

So the general idea about virtue signalling is that someone will pipe up and drop their political leanings whenever they can, so that everyone knows that they're progressive and vegan and support a bunch of people, etc. We call it virtue signalling because people stop in the middle of a conversation and drop their political beliefs, so they get optics on their pet causes (which are characterised as being trendy micro-movements who the virtue signaller never actually contributes to or helps in any major fashion, only talks like they're a figurehead of it) and get to have a chest-thumping moment of pride for being a good person.

Is that not a similar process to how Trumpeters cancel celebrities who talk about Trump, or who take up issues that Trump specifically mentions to own the libs or whatever the fuck?

I remember a while ago when Robert De Niro made an appearance at the Oscars, and he did this Trump rant. Trump tweeted about him going senile in his old age and all that usual douchebag stuff, and his followers all abandoned De Niro en-masse. There was a video of a guy who had this nice framed picture of Robert De Niro, there was like a bio and everything on it, and he mentions having this framed picture for over 20 years. He films himself taking it outside to the trashcan, breaking the glass with a hammer, dismantling the frame and tearing up the picture.

Whenever there's a new issue that Trump goes after, he has a base of sycophants chasing after it yelling "MAGA!!" so they can be the base of people that deals a blow to them, so they can beat their chests and go "I'm being a proud American". Whether it's cancelling a celebrity or disowning a corporation for "SJW politics", Trump supporters always pile onto it instantly and try to stop it. They announce it loudly, they let everyone know that they're following the president. They virtue-signal - they yell about their stupid little movement and then rattle off a handful of pre-established lines about how they're making America great, so everyone knows it was the MAGA fanclub taking action in the wake of another presidential decree. Trumpeters are the biggest virtue-signallers.
