I still consider it "random battles" because I think having map enemies and advertising "no random battles" is misleading. IMO NoRB means like boss battles only, or forced encounters like the first battle in FF7 by the train.

Played: Unlimited Saga
an RPG with durability, limited inventory, more RNG that usual... every bad feature you can think of, and you don't even get exp/money for random battles. Hell, the leveling system only vaguely makes sense but it doesnt really work correctly either.

Its a metroidvania with keys instead of power-ups, Frankenstien's monster instead of samus, and on the greybrick gameboy.

The second playthrough was the worst.
The last was the best... but like Majora's Mask, "If the first half of a game is boring, is the rest a good game?"

That said, first playthrough was fine, but the story was edgy 13 year old angsty goth Christian fanfiction.
And I used to be an angsty 13 year old goth, so I would know.

The first third to half of Majora's Mask is a complete slog, diminishing replay value and therefore making it a worse game overall. And if half a game is a drag, is it good anyways? Its not that being a Deku sucks, its just that everything the plot wants to do for the first week is boring.

Fire Emblem Awakening is the best FE game. Supports not only function but actually do something, rescue was made obsolete, spotpass shops are a godsend and they give you dozens of old fan-favorite characters. It didn't invent Casual mode, but even FFT gives you 3 turns to make up for 1% crits. Speaking of FFT, it only had 5 characters per a battle, which is effectively what Pair Up does; deeper units and better paced battles.

Conversely, I hate Fates, especially Conquest. It sucks all the fun out by nerfing Pair Up, scraping not only the map but the worldbuilding itself. The battlefields are too claustrophobic to use Attack Stance. It tries too hard to 'balance' everything with trivial "+2 stat -1 other stat" nonsense, worst of all silver weapons & personal skills. Even in Revelations, your characters can't inter-marry, which defeats the point. Friendship seals suck, they're completely useless. Fucking Dragon Veins are never fun, they're never useful only necessary or used against you.

Last Story was a great game.

Xenoblade X is way better than 1, what a terrible battle system.

FF12 sucked, the SNES FFs are over-rated and the NES FFs are under-rated.
X2 was fine, its battle/Job systems are really cool.

Ni No Kuni wasn't even that enjoyable, and it had some nonsense like; the more pokemon you caught, the harder it is to catch more, to the point where not only did the odds reach single-digit percents; some became uncatchable.

Xbox controllers are so fat and awkward, and I have big hands so its not me.

It started with a lets player that seemed a little slow so I tried 1.25x ... and I got hooked, before I knew it; 1.5x for him and 1.25x for everything else. Sometimes I try 2x but its a bit too fast still. Im so excited to adapt to watching faster cause its my most watched, I'll be saving even more time!

Decided against listing Japanese games, even though they have translation patches... Also only listed good games, mostly, so try'em out!

Dragon Spirit (NES) Shmup with hydra heads as power-ups, rocking soundtrack.

Krion Conquest (NES) Japanese version (Magical Doropie) is balanced better. Mega Man rip off.

Magic of Scheherazade (NES) Weird arabian Zelda, hella neat though.

Jewel Master (Genesis) Favorite sega game, kinda like Mega Man. More good music.

Dragon View (SNES) Incredible action RPG, Ys fans should love it.

Super Valis IV (SNES) Great music, fast platformer with a sword and lots of powers.

Evolution Worlds (GameCube) Don't remember much but its a good weeb RPG.

Dr. Franken (GB) Kinda bad, but it was a metroidvania from my childhood, finally beat it.

Magi-Nation (GBC) Pokemon the Gathering, had a cool card game in the 90s.

Survival Kids (GBC) Links Awakening with crafting, its amazing.

Sigma Star Saga (GBA) Zelda with lasers and shmup random battles.

Guardians Crusade (PS1) RPG with Smash Bros-like assist trophys.

Legend of Legaia (PS1) RPG with fighting game-like special moves.

Threads of Fate (PS1) 2D action RPG, generic but so fun & charming.

Black Rock Shooter (PSP) weeb RPG with a reflex based battle system.

Surf Ninjas (GameGear) pretty standard beat'em up, still fun.

Odallus the Dark Call (Steam) a "retro" castlevania like game with powerups that lead to new areas in old levels.

A fullset can be heavy.
The SNES classic might be able to hold (and play) the NoIntro* NES Fullset, but not a SNES fullset.

PS Classic has just been hacked to play more PS1 games so far, and its pretty easy but... not worth it, they don't run well, even if they are the US version, instead of the PALs that come with it.

The SNES Classic runs PS1 games better than the PSC.


*NoIntro is a group that cleaned all the hacks and JP versions out of old fullsets.

I skipped 4's DLC so Im finding Cloud is fun to play for my style.
Also developing a newfound taste for Pit.

So glad to have Y.Link back, I was a Link main on Melee till a friend challenged me enough I had to switch to Y.Link for the speed. But Ultimate changed Link too much for my taste.

Donkey Kong is my favorite "heavy" character because he's still fast. His balance of speed, weight and power is helping a lot in WoL. A few fist/physical spirits go a long way with him too.

Shulk doesn't seem as fun as he was in 4, even though he's the same?

I quit during the grind between Ch1 and Ch2.
It had some good combat but what I actually like about it isn't really the game itself. I like the fact that Squarenix had to ship more copies and admit they were wrong about the demand for turn-based RPGs.

Hopefully it was the wake-up call that pulled their heads out of their FF15-asses and made them start working on Bravely Third.

In the mean time, I should finish Radiant Historia, again.

I used to dislike it at first, wasn't living up to the hype. I didn't play it till like PS2-era so it was a "downgrade". But as I played more games and watched more playthroughs of CT on youtube, I realized that compared to the rest of the SNES games, CT was ahead of its time and competes with the best of the PS1 which has a great library.
