If you know how people centuries ago were able to draw accurate maps, know anything about the highly specialized beak of a toucan and how it helps them eat fruit, or how the first ship propellers were designed, or odd traits of some famous tactician, or how the formula we use for rocket fuel has evolved from their predecessors? Tell us all about it.

Stephen King got the idea for the shining from staying at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Its considered to be one of the most haunted places in the world. I took a tour of it after I learned that I didnt live too far away and I also have a little anecdotal evidence to support that theory.
Its also the set of Dumb and Dumber and Jim Carrey was supposed to stay there during filming. Apparently he stayed one hour and then demanded to be switched to a different hotel. He wouldnt set foot inside it again unless necessary for the film and he refuses to talk about what frightened him so badly. I wanna know what he saw.

Soccer was actually fairly popular in the US in the early 20th century, with multiple attempts at forming a professional league akin to the one for baseball. But anti-immigrant sentiment and then the depression in the 20s and 30s led to a prolonged decline that didn't really change until the late 60s, when the televising of the 1966 World Cup Final led to the formation of the NASL.

Mass curves spacetime generating what we observe as gravitational effects. That's why black holes can slow down the perception of time to an observer around it while the rest of the universe flows at what we consider regular time. This effect can also be seen in LEO.

Another one is the whole parallel universe thing. Most people assume quantum mechanics lead to this but that's not actually true. The most common accepted interpretation of qm is the Copenhagen interpretation, not the many worlds one. In it, the wave function is not a physical observable, unlike in the man world's view where I believe parallel worlds emerge.

Moonshine isn't really a specific beverage. Or wasn't, originally anyway. It's a word to refer to any kind of illegally brewed liquor, typically unlicensed and out of safety regulations for the brewing process. People did this as a way to dodge taxes during colonial times when the British were jacking up the prices of Rum through tax. The beverage itself could have actually been anything but was most commonly corn whiskey.

Any horror stories you hear as a result of someone drinking moonshine are either lies, or probably because the beverage was extremely unsafe to drink as the brewing process was fucked up somewhere along the lines and they were being poisoned--but most likely they're just lying. The most powerful alcohol you can drink is actually 190 proof everclear.

No, you cannot get higher than that, despite the fact that it goes higher, such a thing doesn't exist outside of chemistry laboratories. The reason for that is alcohol at that concentration (really any concentration, but there's a tipping point at 190) is hydrophobic and will rapidly suck moisture out of the air into itself rapidly degrading down from 200 (or whatever) into 190. Anyone saying they drank something stronger than 190 everclear is just straight lying--and that includes moonshine.

The moonshine you can buy in the stores is not "fake," it's just corn whiskey. It's the same thing the moonshiners of colonial times were making, they're just making it legally now.

Chinese/Japanese characters aren't nearly as cool, and also every bit as cool, as you'd hope.

So, the character is "mouth." A lot of times it will be used as a smaller component of more complex characters to represent that it's something you could reasonably expect to be done with a mouth, or related (no matter how loosely) to one, or something along those lines.

(to talk)
(to mumble/mutter)
(to blow)
(lips)
(tongue)
(to say)

More strange still is that sometimes you'll get things like , which totally has that part in it, which are used as entire parts of other Kanji to represent something more specifically related to speech

(to talk)
(to forgive/to permit)
(to transmit/to yield)
(argument)
(to warn)

The troubling thing is that most of the time, you can pretty much just ignore the part of the character which isn't that "meaning" part since often it has nothing at all to do with the actual word. For example, the right half of is "noon" which has absolutely nothing to do with forgiveness or permission. conveniently has tongue on the right in addition to its speech bit on the left. This is the exception, not the rule.

Anyways the point of this is, sometimes Kanji which express an abstract concept really stretch the definition of its components

(disorder/chaos) is comprised of a tongue on the left, and... breasts, on the right.

So take that as you will.

Goge Vandire was the Ecclesiarch of the Imperium of Man during the period known as the Age of Apostasy. However during his rule he would create a private army/harem known as the Brides of the Emperor by exploiting a loophole regarding a rule which states that the ecclesiarch cannot have "men under arms". Eventually the Captain General of the Adeptus Custodes would expose Vandire's heresy to the head of the Brides known as Alicia Dominica.

She would then go on to execute Vandire herself. Goge Vandire's last words were "I don't have time to die; I'm too busy."

A small group of crows is called Attempted Murder

Crows and Ravens look very similar, but to tell them apart you look at the number of "fingered feathers" called Pinions. Crows have 4, and Ravens have 3. So the difference between a Crow and a Raven, is a matter of "a pinion"

The Death Korps of Krieg hail from the planet of Krieg. A planet that used to be a paradise world (or at the very least meets the bare minimum standards to be one) until the ruling class decided to succeed from the Imperium. A global civil war would break out but unfortunately the loyalists were out gunned, out manned, and out resourced except for one regard. The loyalists had access to nuclear weapons from the Dark/Golden Age of Technology.

Krieg would become a death world overnight and completely abandoned by the Imperium until 500 years later when the loyalists contacted the Imperium (specifically the Departmento Munitorum) who wanted a full regiment of troops ready to go for skipping on the tithe for so long. The Death Korps had 20 regiments fully trained, fully equipped, and requested to be exclusively sent to the most harsh, hostile, and unforgiving of environments/worlds.
