The people who wrote the story had the ambition of creating something resembling actual art, but market forces demanded a game be built around that story that completely contradicts the story. It's just an unpleasant slog to actually play through, and not in the charmingly dated way something like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is. --- |

Spielberg makes a movie that, by the end, attempts to find the goodness and purpose in the most senselessly evil thing humans have ever done to one another. Schindler's List, though it makes me cry and feel things in ways that most movies cannot, is ultimately a bad Holocaust movie. If you wanna watch a movie that captures the spirit of the Holocaust, watch The Grey Zone. It's the best Hollywood will ever do on the subject. --- |

| CW_McGraw 09/11/18 12:30:10 AM #11 | I started learning piano a few weeks ago. It helps that I played guitar and bass for 14 years before this. I find it really gratifying to get better at. Like I don't think I really got good at bass until about 7 years in, but even then, it's hard to really enjoy the sound of what you're playing because it's just a bass. Piano sounds like a complete piece of music pretty quickly, so even with my limited range of stuff I can do so far, I enjoy hearing myself. I don't have to force myself to do it at all. I love just sitting there and figuring out stuff. --- |

| CW_McGraw 09/09/18 3:12:18 PM #25 | I just don't get the appeal of JRPGs. I've given Golden Sun a try, got a few hours into it, and then lost interest. I liked Pokmon, but that doesn't really count. Even there it has a lot of the flaws I've found in the other JRPGs I've briefly tried, specifically that the combat tends to favor spamming your good moves at trash mobs. It's undoubtedly the weakest part of Pokmon, but at least Pokmon has this collection and team improvement element that keeps you hooked into. I could never come up with a compelling reason to keep playing Golden Sun. I guess some people like the stories? Fire Emblem has the same bland story and characters, but the combat was much more interesting because of the movement around the map and using the strengths of different characters to your advantage. So I guess what I'm saying is that turn based combat in the classic SNES-PS1-PS2 era of JRPGs turned me off the whole genre. People have told me I'd like Legend of Dragoon and Kingdom Hearts, which sounds right. --- |
