There isn't a whole lot to work towards, upgrading and designing your home doesn't offer any mechanical/utility upgrades, and once you do your item hunting for the day, you are basically just forced to wait til tomorrow for anything fun or new to happen. Contrasted with the Harvest Moon / Rune Factory / Stardew Valley Formula, where you are constantly working towards improving the engine of your success, and not gated by a real time calendar, Animal crossing comes off as terribly boring. I'm surprised Pocket Camp failed as hard as it did, since the animal crossing formula is perfect for the mobile market of 'daily check in' games. --- move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. Just by having the debt and your house increase alone encouraged you to constantly fish and seek out money rocks, while the revolving door of your residents made you constantly try to keep in touch with them and get their picture before they leave. You offer a very small selection of things to work towards (even in main series animal crossing), You make the rewards for accomplishing them primarily aesthetic, and then you gate the player from accomplishing them by using a real-time time system.
