Cool. So she shoots a random person while drunk, then gets placed on paid leave, and then gets charged with only manslaughter. Cops got it good.

When someone shoots someone else in front of witnesses, the police tend to interview suspects and witnesses to the shooting almost immediately. There are good reasons for that. Eyewitness memory begins to blur almost immediately, then continues to fade over time. As for suspects, the police want them to commit to a story early, before they can come up with a narrative that clears them of blame.

But when a police officer pulls the trigger, the officer is often given a cooling-off period before he is asked to give a statement. Any other police officers who might have witnessed the shooting are also sometimes given time to cool off.

The discrepancy arises from the unlikely but popular and persistent theory that while the memories of regular people tend to degrade over time, the memories of police officers somehow improve after theyre given a few days to ruminate. A cynic might point out that this theory also gives the officers involved some time to collaborate on a story.

Those are basically the same thing. "Would" implies some level of willingness. People can interpret it however they want but I don't know why I'd say yes if I have no actual desire to spend time with the person.

Exactly - he chose them to be cabinet staff. Notably, he did not choose them to be shadow presidents, because he does not have the authority to do that; only the people have the authority to select the president and they should have a reasonable expectation that, absent illness, death, or incapacitation, their wishes in that regard be respected.

But undermining him is even worse, because it means America is effectively being run by an unelected cabal with no oversight and no transparency.

I would not be even a little surprised if he was lying out of his ass, either to exaggerate his own role in the administration, or to exaggerate the amount of control that was being exerted over Trump's actions.

Spiting the flag in plain view of everybody is pretty fucking obtrusive, especially when they already could sit on the bench... which is what they were doing before they decided it wasn't getting them enough attention.
