Instead, Obama sought to enlist Republican congressional leaders to craft a joint statement with Democrats that would condemn Putins government.

The Obama folks did not want any public statement they made about what the Russians were doing to look partisan, Isikoff said, because they were afraid that Trump would use it for political effect. So their idea was, Well, if we can get Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to sign on to a bipartisan statement, that might cushion the White House from any attacks made by Trump that Obama was trying to tilt the election in favor of Hillary Clinton.

McConnell refused to sign the joint statement, leaving Obama out on his own.

As he saw it, any statement along those lines would only feed the Clinton campaigns narrative, Isikoff said. His concern at that point was holding on to power in the Senate, so McConnell unquestionably takes some responsibility.

The story just totally changed

I heard about that this morning at work. I was actually talking about that to my co-worker the other day. I was like "What if they were dating or were lovers?" So, if that's true, it could change a lot...

Shockingly, it turns out we shouldn't just take the killer's word for it about how events transpired.
I said it was murder before, and I'm sticking w/ that assessment.

She couldn't unlock "her" door and it had a unique rug outside it, so her confusing it with her apartment was already sketchy. Now it turns out she may have known or even been the victim's ex.

The pendulum is swinging back hard

Trump's done plenty. Have you been asleep? His impact on the judiciary alone will be fucking us over for the next 30+ years.
His tax cut for the rich is spiraling us into crippling debt that Republicans will use to justify cutting social services. Our economy is booming (thanks, Obama!), the interest we pay on our debt is tiny, and yet we still have massive deficits. What''s going to happen when the economy crashes and interest rates are higher?
He's also dismantled environmental policies and taken a hacksaw to provisions of the Affordable Care Act that will slowly doom it.

And the only reason he hasn't done more damage is because he's so incompetent and picking fights with various interests for no reason, which occupies his attention.
All the damage he's done was stuff written by far right interests that he rubber stamped. The only thing that's kept it from being more is his own dysfunction. Pence and McConnell would be on the exact same page.

It would actually be more predictable given more white people are shot to death by police every year than black people.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/do-police-kill-more-whites-than-black-people/

Thanks for quashing that bs.

According to the most recent census data, there are nearly 160 million more white people in America than there are black people. White people make up roughly 62 percent of the U.S. population but only about 49 percent of those who are killed by police officers. African Americans, however, account for 24 percent of those fatally shot and killed by the police despite being just 13 percent of the U.S. population. As The Post noted in a new analysis, that means black Americans are 2.5 times as likely as white Americans to be shot and killed by police officers.

I forget where I saw it, but I think someone else did a more in depth study looking just for unarmed people killed by on duty police, and the chances of a black person compared to a white person being shot went up even higher in that case.

Any way to change the controls? Focus and Run seem pretty important, and are both tied to pushing in the control sticks, which I prefer not do to whenever possible... Analog sticks are always the first thing to stop working properly for me on a controller. The running is especially annoying since you have to click it while tilting the L stick...

Also wouldn't mind zooming out the camera more, but it seems there's no option for that.
What about a way to auto-aim the camera the direction Aloy is facing? As it is now, fights seem to be rather "circular," but I don't have time to pan the damn camera around, so I basically just have to stab blindly towards the screen in the direction I think the enemy pounced/charged to.

In general, not liking the controls too much so far...

Cool. So she shoots a random person while drunk, then gets placed on paid leave, and then gets charged with only manslaughter. Cops got it good.

And it's unlikely she'll actually go to prison at all. And if she doesn't and is fired, she'll just find a job w/ a different police department.

And she'll get a nice "cool off" period to craft a story...err..properly recall events... before she has to give a statement of what happened.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-watch/wp/2018/07/31/study-cooling-off-periods-dont-help-cops-remember-officer-involved-shootings/
When someone shoots someone else in front of witnesses, the police tend to interview suspects and witnesses to the shooting almost immediately. There are good reasons for that. Eyewitness memory begins to blur almost immediately, then continues to fade over time. As for suspects, the police want them to commit to a story early, before they can come up with a narrative that clears them of blame.

But when a police officer pulls the trigger, the officer is often given a cooling-off period before he is asked to give a statement. Any other police officers who might have witnessed the shooting are also sometimes given time to cool off.

The discrepancy arises from the unlikely but popular and persistent theory that while the memories of regular people tend to degrade over time, the memories of police officers somehow improve after theyre given a few days to ruminate. A cynic might point out that this theory also gives the officers involved some time to collaborate on a story.

Wanting to go talk to someone to the point you'll go out of your way to meet up is a lot different than merely being willing to meet up if you both happen to be in the same area.
And it's just a drink and chat, and nothing's forcing you to stay, so it's an extremely small time commitment.

The poll is really not asking for much, which is why most people have over 50% willing to hang out with them for a bit, and only the most creepy, super annoying, and/or one dimensional troll users have 2/3 or more not even willing to spend such a minor amount of time talking with them.

He chose them to head areas such as Justice, Defense, and so on. They're supposed to be working to help those departments fulfill their mission to the best of their abilities.
So if the Secretary of State hides the nuclear launch codes from Trump so he can't "get back at" Kim Jong Un for calling him a bad name, for example...that's totally within their job duties.

Dead or Alive? You mean that series whose entire purpose is to sexually objectify girls who may or may not be of legal age? That's less about "women must only be portrayed in a certain way" and more about "women shouldn't be portrayed in a sexist, creepy way." Big difference.

I meant more in the opposite direction, where western games intentionally design the female characters to be ugly or have non-feminine features, even when there's a real person used to model for the character who doesn't look like that.
Such as Horizon Zero Dawn (which I bought anyway, b/c apparently it's one of the most amazing games evar going by reviews...I'll see when I get around to playing it) or the new Spider-Man game.

Devs feeling pressured to change how their characters look by the angry vocal minority is also a step backwards, though.

I used to criticize BLM for standing in streets, and said they should find a way to protest that doesn't obstruct traffic and potentially put people in danger.
Now I kind of understand them doing it.

Except you defended them doing that.

Except I didn't, and you're completely full of shit for trying to claim otherwise.

lolwut? Those are some obfuscating levels of stupidity.

Football. It's a game played in schools across the country for entertainment. Do you understand, or do I need to explain what football is in more detail?

before the actual thing you tuned in to watch commences regardless has to be the most unobtrusive way possible one could publicly protest something,

Spiting the flag in plain view of everybody is pretty fucking obtrusive, especially when they already could sit on the bench... which is what they were doing before they decided it wasn't getting them enough attention. They're employees and from the moment they step on that field they're on the job.

They're not "spitting on the flag." Those are some obfuscating levels of stupidity. You know that's a ridiculous hyperbole.
They're kneeling. Which if anything, seems more respectful than just standing.
And "stand for the national anthem" isn't part of their job. If you can pull up a contract explicitly stating otherwise I'll admit you're right, though. Go on....

Because some dudes paid to play a kid's game kneeling instead of standing during a national anthem that is performed before the actual thing you tuned in to watch commences regardless has to be the most unobtrusive way possible one could publicly protest something, and the conservative white populace STILL flip their shit over it. In fact, it seems to upset them even more than literally blocking highways.
Fucking madness.

So I voted that it does surprise me. Cause....what a stupid fucking thing to be upset about!

Yeah, that's why games like Nier Automata and Tomb Raider and Bayonetta are shitty games that no one play

SJWs would argue that those are all games where the female lead is sexualized to appeal to the male gaze, and therefore invalid.

Thankfully some game developers don't listen to them.

NeiR Automata and Bayonetta are awesome (I've never played Tomb Raider, so no comment on that one), and my wife loves them, too. :)

Apple makes their shit in China like everyone else, but charges hundreds of dollars more because their sheep fans will buy it.

They're also the richest company in the history of the Earth, but use every trick in the book such as Inversion and claiming all the sales came from Ireland, to pay a tiny infinitesimal amount of taxes on all that wealth.

They're the most greedy company in existence, no question.

Literally the last four games I played had a female protagonist, and the one before that was an ensemble cast (Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate) where I was using female characters at least as much as male.

Hell, out of all the games that I've played through this past year, 6 had a female main character, 1 had a male main character, and 2 were ensemble casts.

I'm fine w/ female protagonists. Not keen on the western SJW trend as of late that they must be portrayed certain way only, though. I've always preferred Japanese games, but this gen it's gotten downright lopsided (all nine I've played this year....).

Even the unrelated ps2 game was bad and you should feel bad.

Fake News!

Deception/Kagero/Trapt series has always been good, and the latest title, Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess, was an amazing game.
Still my 2nd favorite PS4 game so far after Nier Automata.
