To me this will make or break the game

I appreciate Nintendo has a bigger audience than the average fighting lolfighting game but Fortnite has a ranking system and it's doing just fine

It's time for Nintendo to put on his big boy pants and give us a ranking system

if elite battles work the way i hope than competitive players actually get the better end of the deal here

they have a mode they can jump into right away with the same rules each time

meanwhile everyone else has to create rulesets and wait in lobbies to be matched up with other people with somewhat similar rulesets, then on top of that each match's rules change randomly between each player

most JeW fans I know love their self titled and Static Prevails but think they fell off after that.

that's interesting

from what i've seen nobody really seems to care for their debut, even the people who solely enjoy their 90's emo material. it's grown on me a bit but it's really nothing special.

as for the audio quality, yeah it can be tough to find decent quality of that era's demos and non-album stuff

I mean I actually agree, botw offers that unparalleled level of creative freedom in its physics engine that makes it so satisfying to fuck around in, which is more my speed personally

enjoyable movement mechanics and the ability to actively interact with the world are the most important things in an open world sandbox game

that's why games like BOTW, spider man 2 and just cause 2 are among the best in the genre.

I think the Pitchfork review was useful in noting that streaming services and the magic algorithms create a way for "throwback" bands like this to find an audience and thrive off of who they aren't.

making your worlds bigger and bigger doesn't mean shit if there's nothing of worth in them. vice city and san andreas' maps look small from a bird's eye, but they don't feel that way in-game because the world is so compact and full of worthwhile content.

GTA V effectively has one major city, and then an absurd amount of countryside shoveled to the north, bloating the map

Jak II is a shameless GTA imitation, without any of the things that makes GTA fun.

the shooting mechanics are about as barebones as you can get, and they're not satisfying because there's no way to properly aim due to lack of strafe or reticle system, so projectile shooting is auto-aim

the open world is essentially nothing but a timesink. it's devoid of any worthwhile content and 95% of missions in the game take place in areas outside the city, so essentially the only purpose of the open world is to waste your time as you drive to mission start points. driving the vehicles is also not enjoyable and there's far less opportunity to interact with the environment like in other open world games.

the story just screams "we demand to be taken seriously".as naughty dog's first attempt at serious storytelling, it falls rather flat. every significant character in this game besides daxter is a super serious edgelord and the time travel reveal is just such an unbelievably contrived and unnecessary way of going about a backstory with a twist

the best bits of the game, as one might expect, are the platforming sections. easily on par with the first game's and in some cases even better. but there simply isn't enough of them, with the increase in focus on shooting galleries and other gimmick-related missions like escort quests, turret sections and minigames. and the difficulty man, everyone knows about it. the lack of checkpoints is beyond egregious

he graphics is phenomenal, the VA in RDR2 is one of the best in gaming and TLOU/Uncharted level

this is my problem

rockstar was at their most enjoyable to me when they weren't taking themselves so seriously. telling simple stories with its world-building built on satire. more importantly, these games were fun. not so wrapped up in realism. the worlds were also properly sized.

this is something that some developers have still yet to realize, making your worlds bigger and bigger doesn't mean shit if there's nothing of worth in them. vice city and san andreas' maps look small from a bird's eye, but they don't feel that way in-game because the world is so compact and full of worthwhile content. the more you stretch something out the more barren it is going to feel. GTA V's world is gigantic, but it's one the emptiest open worlds I have ever seen in a game.

they have now become a wannabe naughty dog, which I consider to be a bad thing for any developer, but i'll at least give ND credit, their writers are far better than any of rockstar's or really any of their imitators. these developers are so obsessed with being taken seriously as writers and storytellers that they're willing to compromise enjoyable gameplay and mechanics.
