I'm happy with that Direct. I like the Spirits, I love how the Adventure mode looks, I like the new fighters though Ken was disappointing. Turns out the Grinch leak was fake as balls, so I'm laughing my ass off about that - I bought into it to a degree, but the thought of those who were gung-ho, 100% in for the ride getting buttmad is great.

Whoever said that Sakurai probably scrapped Incineroar for Banjo because no-one wanted Incineroar and Sakurai must have "come to his senses" - who was it, MilkMan? All I have to say is fucking lol.

I also got a bit giddy when Shadow and Isaac were revealed as Assist Trophies, specifically because of the people who were clamoring for them to be fighters. I enjoyed a great deal of the Direct, but I definitely got a spiteful kick out of the thought that all these Smash fanboys are going to flip shit and ruin their lives over a stupid fucking video game.

Smash Ultimate looks great. I'll definitely be picking it up for Christmas.

Wtf is spirit mode? It's just event mode but with a whole lot of stats. Why would they take trophies out? I feel like people like those. Just port it from Smash 4 even.

I like Petey though and don't know who Issac is so I'm fine. I mean the roster is huge and great already.

It's basically Mortal Kombat Deception's Konquest mode except you're collecting shit for all the characters as well as the characters themselves and not just Shujinko.

I think Sakurai mentioned the DLC characters being decided during development, which is why XBC2's Rex only got in as a Mii Fighter costume. Because the game came out too late in development.

Nah, I'm good. For what it's worth, I liked the Smash direct solely on its own merits - the spite involved in places like with Shadow and Isaac were ultimately a cherry on top. Hardly a sole focus on why I enjoyed the Direct.

No hate if you wanted these characters, but you know that there's some maladjusted dickhead who's using these Assist Trophies not being main fighters as an excuse to act like an asshole. Smash breeds that sort of sickness, I swear - look at that turd who hoarded all of those Rosalina Amiibos because he hated her and didn't want other people to have her merchandise. It's that sort of degeneracy that feeds this perverse little sense of spite that I've felt.

If nothing else, I'm glad that these sorts of people didn't get what they wanted. I'm glad that the sickest, most obnoxious Smash fans are going without, because they really don't deserve it. A ton of better adjusted folks have been left out in the rain, of course - I'm sorry if a fighter that you wanted didn't make it in, seriously. If folks were clamoring for Geno and Banjo Kazooie, and weren't spending hours out of their days ripping new assholes into people over disagreements, then I'm ultimately on your side - it's a legitimate bummer, and I'm sorry that you didn't get the character/s that you wanted.

I was pulling for Geno and Spring Man to a lesser extent. While it's a small bummer, it's not why I enjoy Smash. I enjoy playing as cool and kooky characters, and the absolute LOVE LETTER to Nintendo's long and storied history and now other companies and franchises besides. It just makes me feel so warm. :)

Yeah even discounting the leak, this game had way more than I think most expected. Ridley and K. Rool alone are huge, and if they had to make a choice between those two and some of the Grinch leak characters, I think they made the right call.

Yeah, that's a bit of a bummer. They're replaced with 2D Spirits, so no rotating or looking up skirts. I get how making the 3D models probably took a fair amount of time, though, and this will free up some time and work for other stuff.

Yeah, no hate there for sure. I was hoping for Geno to a degree, pretty much because I was hoping to win Lan's Smash raffle - for those who are into the character, I can understand and respect why they would want him in.

I'll admit that I've never owned a Smash game, I played a friend's copy of Brawl when I was younger and that's it. But I've always admired the series from afar, and with me having the most recent Nintendo hardware I can finally get in on the action. Can't wait to mess around with the goofy characters like Mr. Game and Watch and R.O.B, and I'm pretty hype for Snake as well.

With over 70 playable characters, I think this was the one worth waiting for. I'm super stoked to be jumping into the series, and I'm looking forward to the game launching.

I think my favorite Spirit shown was Kazuhira Miller from MGS5. This grizzled asshole who lost an arm and a leg to torture, who smacks this African child soldier with a crutch and is dead set on bloody, messy revenge - arguably one of the most intense characters in the Metal Gear franchise, as someone who was depicted in a light-hearted manner in PW before losing literally everything that he had worked toward - being depicted in a fucking Nintendo game.

Mr. "Every night, I can feel my leg... And my arm... even my fingers... The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting..." himself. Represented in a Nintendo game. I fucking love it.

they didn't actually explain what "elite battles" are, just that they require enough GSP (which hopefully is largely MMR-dependent) and that apparently devs will..pay attention to them? like to nerf or balance shit? is it a 1v1 tourney style setting?

PLEASE tell me there is some sort of rank system
