I doubt it, personally. Either things will stay as they are, or they'll swing to the left. Maybe even the environmental left, if the greens can transfer their state-level momentum to the federal level

Do you think that might be true of all topics?

Alright. Here are some trabant jokes.

What's the best feature of a Trabant? There's a heater at the back to keep your hands warm when you're pushing it.

What is the longest car on the market? The Trabant, at 12 meters length. 2 meters of car, plus ten meters of smoke.

A man driving a Trabant suddenly breaks his windshield wiper. Pulling into a service station, he hails a mechanic. 'Wipers for a Trabi?' he asks. The mechanic thinks about it for a few seconds and replies, 'Yes, sounds like a fair trade.'

Hey, here's something I was thinking about recently. A lot of people are familiar with the theory that Hitler rose to power largely based on bitterness about WW1, i.e. getting beaten by the French, but also the huge reparations.

WW1 ended in 1918; Hitler rose to power in 1932. Isn't 14 years a bit much to still be bitter and messed up about losing to the French, and particularly about the reparations? I mean, the economy had actually been pretty good for quite a few years, by this point. I know the economy crashed in 1929, but that was just because of the Wall Street Crash. Can people really hold in their bitterness and resentness for 14 years, then express that by electing a leader as questionnable as Hitler?

I don't know, I hear some people still post nonsense on CE after more than 14 years, so it doesn't sound that far-fetched to me.

Here's a question for you all. How would you describe the situation in Germany, in the days and months following 9/11? Did it affect Germans very badly, or did it not bother them *too* much? Were people constantly talking about the terrorists and Afghanistan, or was it more in the background? Did people suddenly become really patriotic, like in America? Also, did Germany contribute to the invasion force? I thought I read it didn't, but I'm not sure. Do Germans consider it to be the biggest event of the 21st century, like many people around the world do, or not?

Here's another couple of questions.

I know I've claimed quite a lot that mothers are discriminated a lot against in the German workforce, during the modern era for the country, but in general, are women treated badly in general? I mean, sexist remarks, not being promoted because they're women, people trying to force them to sleep with them, etc.?

Also, have you all heard about that scandal involving the guy who worked for Der Spiegel? He seems like the German Stephen Glass or something. If you've heard about it, what do you think of him?

To be fair, America's pretty isolationist. I mean...they're building a huge wall on one of their borders. That's what isolationist countries do. Build walls, to stop people getting in. Trump is a pretty bad president.

I wasn't living in Germany after 9/11, but I got the impression that it didn't affect Germans too much. While Germany did send soldiers to Afghanistan, they also stayed out of Iraq, so by the time I came back to Germany in 2006 terrorism wasn't at the forefront, and there was a sense of security until 2016 that it wouldn't happen in Germany (the large attacks between 9/11 and 2016 didn't occur in Germany: Madrid, London, Paris, Brussels, Nice).
Also,

Why aren't Germans really patriotic? Is it because of the perception that, on previous occasions, German patriotism has led to some very bad things happening? Or am I overthinking things? Is it just that they don't give a fuck? To be fair, I wouldn't say that modern Britain is that patriotic.
