The facts are out.

The conclusion I "jumped" too it turns out is 100% right.

Especially the "Enter town, turn around and leave. Kids calls you Shane and tells you to come back. You shoot him and say that's not your name" anti climax gag.

Several of the contributors of the report have been prominent in engaging with China, including Winston Lord, the former U.S. ambassador to China in the 1980s, Larry Diamond, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and Orville Schell, the Arthur Ross Director at the Center on U.S.-China Relations Asia Society.

Speaking with The Washington Post, Lord said the group who worked on the paper are not "a bunch of hostile, anti-Chinese people," making the findings all the more stunning. Yet all of us have become more pessimistic about the trends and feel that were at a crossroads in the relationship, Lord said of the about-face.

The report notes that China is second only to Russia when it comes to "efforts to influence American politics and society," adding that it is both "extensive and well-funded."

"The ambition of Chinese activity in terms of the breadth, depth of investment of financial resources, and intensity requires far greater scrutiny than it has been getting, because China is intervening more resourcefully and forcefully across a wider range of sectors than Russia," the report reads. "By undertaking activities that have become more organically embedded in the pluralistic fabric of American life, it has gained a far wider and potentially longer-term impact."

However, the report was cautious to note that it did not want to "exaggerate the threat of these new Chinese initiatives." Aside from the report stating that China did not interfere with U.S. elections the way the Russians did, there are plenty of examples of the two countries working together.

On Thursday, Trump tweeted that the tariffs have resulted in "billions of dollars pouring into the coffers of the U.S.A.," but did not provide any concrete details for this claim.
Chinese influence goes further than tech grab

The report details how Chinese policy began to take a very different path when President Xi Jinping came to power in 2013. Since then, the world's largest country "has significantly expanded the more assertive set of policies initiated by his predecessor Hu Jintao." The report also notes that China not only wants to redefine its position as a world leader but "put forward the notion of a 'China option' that is claimed to be a more efficient developmental model than liberal democracy.

China is using several ways to influence the American way of life, including using legitimate tactics and some "improper interference," including methods that have been previously summed up as covert, coercive or corrupting.

The report found that Chinese influence extends into a number of areas, including universities, federal and state government institutions, media and think-thanks, which the report notes are "very resilient" in resisting the influence. China is trying to promote views that are "sympathetic to the Chinese Government, policies, society, and culture," the statement reads. It adds that China is also trying to "suppress alternative views; and co-opt key American players to support Chinas foreign policy goals and economic interests."

"For all the tensions in the relationship, there are deep historical bonds of friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual inspiration between the two societies, which we celebrate and wish to nurture," a statement on the report reads. "And it is imperative that Chinese Americanswho feel the same pride in American citizenship as do other American ethnic communitiesnot be subjected to the kind of generalized suspicion or stigmatization that could lead to racial profiling or a new era of McCarthyism."

A new report issued by several prominent experts on Chinese and American foreign policy claims that China is using a range of methods to misappropriate U.S. technology.

The 200-page report, entitled Chinese Influence & American Interests: Promoting Constructive Vigilance, warns that American intellectual property is at risk.

"In the technology sector, China is engaged in a multifaceted effort to misappropriate technologies it deems critical to its economic and military success," experts explain, in a statement accompanying the report. "Beyond economic espionage, theft, and the forced technology transfers that are required of many joint venture partnerships, China also captures much valuable new technology through its investments in U.S. high-tech companies and through its exploitation of the openness of American university labs."

"This goes well beyond influence-seeking to a deeper and more disabling form of penetration," they added. "The economic and strategic losses for the United States are increasingly unsustainable, threatening not only to help China gain global dominance of a number of the leading technologies of the future, but also to undermine Americas commercial and military advantages."
"Nontraditional collectors" of data

The report identifies what it calls "nontraditional collectors" of data on U.S. technology. "Chinas most systematic channel for identifying foreign-based nontraditional collectors is its Recruitment Program of Global Experts, commonly known as the Thousand Talents Plan or the Thousand Talents Program (TTP)," it said. "The TTP is a massive and sustained talent recruitment campaign designed to recruit leading experts from overseas to assist in the countrys modernization drive."

Official Chinese TTP websites list more than 300 U.S. government researchers and more than 600 U.S. corporate personnel who have accepted TTP money, according to the report. "In many cases, these individuals do not disclose receiving the TTP money to their employer, which for U.S. government employees is illegal and for corporate personnel likely represents a conflict of interest that violates their employee agreement."

The timing of the report is noteworthy, as President Trump is scheduled to meet with President Jinping at this weekend's G-20 summit, where the two will discuss the current trade war between both countries and whether the situation can be resolved or escalated.

The Trump administration has long argued that China does not offer a level playing field for foreign businesses and they steal intellectual property from U.S. companies, a claim the report backs up

In October, Vice President Mike Pence said U.S. companies should "think twice before diving into the Chinese market if it means turning over their intellectual property or abetting Beijings oppression," Pence said in prepared remarks made at the Hudson Institute. Pence specifically called out Google, which he said should "immediately end development of the 'Dragonfly' app that will strengthen Communist Party censorship and compromise the privacy of Chinese customers"

Google has come under fire from politicians on both sides of the aisle, its employees and several other interested parties, including human rights groups, to abandon the project, which would see the tech giant potentially launch a censored search engine in China. Last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company is exploring a potential search engine, but nothing is definite.

Speaking with The Wall Street Journal earlier this week, Trump said he expected to boost tariff levels on a further $200 billion worth of Chinese goods to a level of 25 percent, up from 10 percent.

If we dont make a deal, then Im going to put the $267 billion additional on, at a tariff rate of either 10 [percent] or 25 [percent], Trump said.

A California man is being credited for heroism after he reportedly jumped in front of a woman who was allegedly being attacked by a machete-wielding man.

Blaine Hodge, 27, was at a Starbucks in Bakersfield on Sunday when a woman ran into the store, convinced someone was trying to kill her, KGET-TV reported.

She was panicked. She was saying 'help me' and then at one point she said, 'This guy's going to kill me,'" Hodge's friend, Joe Harris, told the news station. Harris said a man walked into the store while "holding something in his hand."

That's when Hodge stepped in.

"Everyone else was running away and he was the first person to run straight to the action," Harris told KGET. "He was like: 'I'm going to stop this guy, regardless if I get stabbed or not. I can't let this woman die.'"

Hodge was reportedly stabbed "many times" during the encounter, and required nearly 200 stitches.

The woman also suffered injuries in the attack, and remains in critical condition, KBAK reported.

A GoFundMe page created for Hodge said he may lose use of his right hand, and that he has upward of six weeks of recovery.

Hodge's girlfriend, Tori Toney, told the station that she wasn't surprised by her boyfriend's actions and that she "believe[s] that he took a machete to the hands for someone else."

"He would do it again. He could lose an arm and he would still do it again. And that's just Blaine," she said.

The man who allegedly had the machete was identified as 31-year-old Robert Daniel Rivas. He was reportedly charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

Shocking footage shows a group of machete-wielding bandits chasing an American couple on a dusty road in Kenya.

Bryant Swenson and his wife Lauren, from Utah, were driving near Mai Mahiu on November 30 when three masked men attacked their car.

The couple, who moved to Nairobi with their three children to open a CrossFit gym, spotted a white van which the gangsters are believed to have been trying to rob.

Bryant said in a Facebook post about the attempted robbery, that one of the men was carrying a gun but couldn't get it out of his waistbelt in time.

As the bandits rushed towards their Toyota Land Cruiser, Bryant had to reverse backwards to give himself time to roll up his window before moving past the dangerous criminals.

He then quickly shifted back into drive and sped past the three bandits who hurled their giant blades at the passing car.

A 72-year-old former nursing assistant at a home for the elderly in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted of causing the death of her colleague.

The court ruled Tuesday that Aiko Hatano put a sleep-inducing drug into her colleagues coffee which caused the victim to die in a car crash at around 5:30 p.m. on Feb 5, 2017, Fuji TV reported.

The victim, Keiko Yamaoka (then 60), and Hatano were colleagues at the nursing home. After drinking the tainted coffee, Yamaoka was driving back home when she lost consciousness. Her car veered into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

The Chiba District Court ruled that Hatano had intent to murder her colleague, by stating she was aware that Yamaoka would be in danger of causing a car accident. The presiding judge pointed out that the defendant completely disregarded the importance of life.

Yamaokas youngest son, who was present during the sentencing, said, Not once did Hatano shed a tear or show any signs of remorse for her senseless crime.

Hatano was first arrested in June of 2017 for attempting to injure a coworker, by lacing her drink. Footage recorded on the coworker's smartphone showed Hatano pouring white liquid into the woman's drink while she was away from her desk. It then showed the suspect returning to the desk and shaking the cup, the sources said.

Prosecutors said Hatano repeatedly spiked her colleagues' beverages. She used the same type of medication herself, which she kept in her desk at the office, and also had access to medication prescribed to the nursing home residents.

She was also charged with attempted murder for allegedly lacing the drinks of a 69-year-old female coworker and the coworker's 71-year-old husband in May 2017 before they drove home, attempting to kill them in a car crash.

Investigators then looked into the crash involving Yamaoka and in July 2017, charged her with murder in that case.

On a night in late November, the employees of a restaurant in Akita City, Akita prefecture, had a problem. A group of about 10 men, all coworkers, had been drinking, and instead of being jovially or sleepily drunk, theyd settled on the belligerent style of intoxication instead.

The men started arguing among themselves, and eventually some of them came to blows, damaging the restaurants interior and fixtures in the process. Ordinarily, youd call the cops in to break the brawl up, but in this case, the brawlers themselves were all police officers.

The inebriated men were all officers assigned to the same police box, or koban, as theyre called in Japanese. Like the name implies, koban are mini police stations, often with just a small visitors desk and inner office.

Police boxes are generally a reassuring city feature for law-abiding residents, since they provide a local police presence and rapid responses. But looking at the cramped working environment, you have to imagine that sometimes officers assigned to the same police box start to get on each others nerves, and it seems as though some simmering animosity sparked an argument between some members of the group at the Akita restaurant. Its unclear what the topic of contention was, but despite the fact that one of the officers was the head of their koban, eventually the angry debaters, all of whom are attached to the Akita Prefectural Polices Gojome Precinct, decided to try making their points with their fists instead of their words, and by the time the dust settled, one of the Gojome officers had suffered broken ribs.

Luckily, when the restaurant staff did call in the incident, the call was directed to the Chuo Precinct, who have now initiated an internal affairs investigation into the melee. As the investigation is still ongoing no disciplinary action has been decided yet, but if a group of police officers cant go out to dinner without committing crimes including drunk and disorderly conduct, assault and battery, and property damage, it seems like their superiors might want to worry as much what/how much theyre drinking while off duty as they do about whether or not they enjoy non-alcoholic beverages while on patrol.

I just got through watching Lady and the Tramp. After having nothing to do with Christmas, the final scene takes place on Christmas with the final shot being of a Christmas tree and The End being covered in snow. Also, it had a Christmas musical cue.

Are there any other movies like this where it suddenly turns Christmasy in the last couple of scenes?

The reason? Under Utah law, only misdemeanor offenses can be prosecuted as hate crimes. Covington is being charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault.

Topic title is misleading as fuck. It literally could not be considered a hate crime

If you tell anyone, nobody would believe you.

these topics are more fun if u play along with the premise

That's fiction man. This is reality.

You have enough evidence and proof that pretty much everyone would believe you apart from the crazies

You discover that enormous Supernovas are going to hit Earth in 100 hours and they have been completely missed by NASA who falsely assume they can't reach us, when in reality they will destroy us. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop it.

Your discover this alongside a tubby short Mexican cop called Lt Sanchez and a big black British Man called Wesley. Who are arguing over how to proceed with the knowledge.

Wesley: "We need to let people know. So they can have time with their families, so they can make arrangements. No man should spend his last days sitting in traffic or working in an office!"

Sanchez: "No seor! It would be panic! It would be chaos! Rapes, murders, looting everywhere! The civilized world couldn't handle such knowledge."

W: "We would come together. Have some faith in humans Lt."

S: "No we wouldn't and you know it. Just look at Horizon Zero Dawn. They didn't tell people in that."

W: "That's fiction man. This is reality."

S: "Exactly! We can't let it happen in reality."

W: "Look, what I am saying is I would want to know. I would want to spend that time with my daughter."

S: "And so would the ignorant thug who would get off on killing your daughter. And now there's no fear of prison or future society to prevent him! People are stupid! Scared people are dangerously stupid. The end of us all is also the end of negative consequences for any action anyone wants to take. No matter how crazy or evil."

W: "This is getting us no where. We will never agree on this. So I guess its up to [Your name] to decide.. Do we let the world know? Or do we keep them in blissful ignorance?"

What would you do? Would you let the world know? OR is ignorance truly bliss in our final moments?
