This rumor gets floated around by Japanese men trying to fool themselves about the "virtue" and "purity" of their own women but I've never seen evidence that this is happening on a large scale in the porn industry.

I'm not denying that Japanese porn stars frequently have deceptively bad contracts and are coerced into going further and doing more sex acts than they really want to do. Also a lot of sleazy directors will take advantage of their position because they know they can get away with it. It's not exclusive to Japan, either--just look at what the American director Max Hardcore got away with for decades, to give one example. All entertainment industries are exploitative, and the sex industry especially.

What I'm doubting is the conception that the industry is dominated by yakuza strong arming women into becoming porn stars totally against their will.

It's a HUGE problem in Japan. Naive girls sign "Modeling" contracts and end up being basically raped by old guys at once.

Everyone knows about it but due to Japanese culture, no one really talks about it
