Yep, definitely agreed on this. I wouldn't even be interested in an all-fictional character battle if the characters originating from other mediums were segregated from the video game-originating characters. Also, even though he would just dominate everyone else, I'll reluctantly concede that Link deserves to be in the first all-fictional field.

That's exactly why I saved it! A bit immature, perhaps, but I appreciate the vindication for people like Ngamer and us who correctly called Mario not crushing Samus.

For fourwaya I just listed the winner of the first match.

I'm fully aware of what you did - I'm just giving my opinion that it would sooner make sense leaving out fourways from your seeding comparison entirely than touting the winner of the first match in each fourway division as its 1-seed.

(Edit): Actually, it's a moot point. It's your PCA, not mine, so carry on!

Zack wasn't a 1-seed in 2008, unless you want to pretend that Link somehow missed out on 1-seed status that year. The fourways were just wonky in terms of match order relative to seeding.

Now that I've finally listened to the rest, there's two things I wanted to say (besides the standard compliments - speaking of which, keep on keepin' on!):

For one, I personally wasn't all that surprised by Mario/Samus, due mainly to the breakdown of hierarchies this contest, and Samus otherwise looking better than Mario. My Analysis Crew guest write-up for their first match explains my logic further in depth.

Also, while late-contest wonkiness absolutely happens, 1997 vs. 2001 isn't the best match to prove it, due to 1997's vastly disadvantageous match picture.

2B would do to everyone what Link is doing to even a massively bandwagoned Zelda right now, so no, I'm definitely not interested in this idea. (Edit: And even considering the journey, everyone else is pretty uninteresting fodder.)

Thanks! And yeah Division 5-8 have some major issues; specifically the Snake/Samus, Mario/Samus (both), Sephiroth/Ryu, Sephiroth/Tifa (maybe), and Zelda/Mario (maybe) matches all have potential weirdness to them.

Also Auron/Geralt, and probably some more minor matches I'm not thinking of.

I don't think Kirby should be that close to Bowser. Kirby/Phoenix was the point of failure imo.

I agree, and in fact I posted a big spiel on this in the Show topic, but Kirby's path unfortunately doesn't give us a clear indication of his strength that could solve this particular debate.

I'm not taking snips of all 16 combos for the archive, sorry - these five already cover all four foreground and both background pictures for each character.

Samus

It's frightening just how far Link is ahead of everyone else. Very different from 2013. These are looking really good, but I can only wish you luck with the headache that is Divisions 5-8.
