He was being evicted. He knew who the fuck they were. They weren't "strange armed men", they were the police.

FFS, his 12 year old daughter knew who it was, hence why she told him to stop. If she could figure it out, why the hell couldn't he?

Stop defending the psychopath.

Why should the cop share any responsibility? If dad doesn't pull a gun on the cop, the cop doesn't shoot at him (and hit him, btw, it wasn't even a stray bullet, he actually hit his target) and the daughter doesn't die.

Dad fucked up and his daughter paid for it. It's entirely his fault.

It does kind of look you were flirting with her also. You even invited yourself into their conversation, and you did say that the 14 y/o was "cute, but too young"

I made a joke to speed things up. It's a tactic that you get pretty good with when you have customers taking forever in retail. If it turns into an argument between mother and daughter, they could be there for 10 minutes with me standing awkwardly to the side and unable to go anywhere.

And yes, she was cute. There's nothing wrong with a 14 year old being cute. I didn't call her "sexy" or imply there was any kind of desire there. She was a cute girl. They exist. Why do people get so hung up over that?

I honestly do not know why you would. Probably because I didn't agree with the death penalty for people caught with CP. Or that it's impossible for people with those convictions to change (I work with one who is living proof that they can).

Most people didn't like my take in those topics a couple months ago.

That's the only really controversial opinion I have spoken about on here.

I'm 33, fyi.

So a minivan pulls up and pumps gas, and these two step out. The younger one looks to be about 14, maybe 15 at the oldest. She's wearing ripped jeans and a surprisingly low-cut top. Not the overly slutty looking kind of low-cut, but definitely intended to show off a bit. She was cute, but definitely too young. The older one (I'm assuming her mom) is in a pair of daisy dukes and an equally low-cut top.

They come inside after getting the gas and browse for a minute. When they come to the counter they've got a Monster and a Dr Pepper, and the mom asks for some Juul pods. Then the younger one grabs a Hershey's Cookies & Creme and tosses it on the counter, and the following conversation happens:

Mom: A candy bar? Do we really need that?
Girl: Come on, doesn't it look delicious?
Mom: It's a candy bar.
Me: *jokingly* Come on, it's chocolate! That pretty much by default makes it the most important thing on this counter!
*both of them laugh*
Mom: *shaking her head and smiling* Alright, whatever. Go ahead.
Me: It's just a shame it's not Cookies & Mint. That one's so much better but you can't find it anywhere anymore.
Girl: Oh my god, I love Cookies & Mint!
Me: I know, right? It's basically mint chocolate chip ice cream without the brain freeze.
Girl: And mint chocolate chip is the best ice cream!
Me: They make other flavors of ice cream?
Girl: Haha, it's definitely my favorite! *leans on counter, obviously showing off her cleavage* Maybe we could get some sometime?
Me: ...ahh, well...that would be nice, but I work nights. It makes going out for ice cream a bit tricky. Nothing's open when I'm awake, after all.
Girl: Aww, that's too bad...
Mom: *smiling the whole time, says nothing*

Then they paid, and as they were walking out the girl turns around and smiles back at me.

Anybody else ever get hit on by young girls like that? I mean holy shit, her mom almost looked like she was hoping I'd say yes. O_o

I'm aware of the term. Hence the quotes. Direct Action is a misnomer. It is, in reality, almost the definition of indirect.

There are two ways to go about making change happen. You can scream and yell until the person in power changes his mind by protesting, or you can say "This guy wants what I want, so I'm going to give him power instead" by voting. One of these relies on someone else willingly changing their minds. One of these does not.

If you protest, but you don't vote, then you are a literal waste of time in any elected official's mind. The only reason protests are effective is because, occasionally, an elected official believes he has a better chance of being re-elected if he does what they want. That doesn't happen when the people protesting don't vote.

If you participate in direct action through protest, organizing, etc. you absolutely have a voice and have already proven you care more than someone who just checks some boxes once every four years.

I think you misunderstand the definition of "direct" action. Voting is the direct action in this case.

Protesting is very indirect, as it doesn't actually do anything other than put pressure on someone else to do something. If you protest and you don't vote, you and your opinions are meaningless. Period.

I have voted every opportunity I have had since I reached legal age to do so.

In my opinion, you don't get to bitch about politics if you aren't willing to put your 2 cents in when it actually matters. I've actually stopped people mid-conversation because they said they didn't vote on the election/school levy/whatever that they were arguing about and told them that their opinion is objectively irrelevant because they chose not to be represented.

If you aren't willing to put your voice in, then you can't be mad when your voice isn't heard.

Boss, no.

If we're on the same "level" or work in separate departments for the same company, then I don't have any problem with it. But if one of us is supposed to be directly in charge of the other at work, then it's just going to cause problems.
