The ISP here is just a small hodunk company that covers a section of the county. They were fine when I started working here but they grew steadily worse. Maybe they didn't see the need to cut into profits and upgrade their hardware or infrastructure. Or employ those expensive weird smart guys they don't understand what they do.

If this level of incompetence sounds unbelievable, this might help. There's a T intersection down the road from where I work which butts up against the concrete wall of a city office building. It's rather plain, so last year they painted some scenes and portraits along the wall. One of which was a painting of a tunnel going to a nice forest road at the intersection. Over the course of two months THREE people went straight through the intersection and rammed their car into the painting of the tunnel, Wile E. Coyote style. People this cartoonishly stupid actually exist. They had to paint over the tunnel scene. My boss used to be friends with the current owner of the ISP and HE WAS ONE OF THEM.

We found out Spectrum has coverage just a few blocks away, we're gonna see what we can set up with them. Yay.

Cox has a cable service. I'm legit scared I could lose Hulu over this. Hulu has shown repeatedly that they actually care about their customers, while Cox has shown that they don't.

I'm almost positive Spectrum is throttling Twitch and YouTube where I live. I can get 60 Mbps download speeds in a speed test but streaming videos from these sites will constantly stop to buffer.

I am just on a roll helping fix everyone else's computer related fuckups and shit software lately. I mean I do it enough for by job in our internal business software. I've repro'd several Visual Studio bugs for Microsoft, and a Windows update. They fired their internal QA so the developers do that job now, and as a developer myself it's bleedingly obvious it shows. They don't have time for minor annoyance bugs anymore.

Last month it was Avast's Behavior Shield crashing, that was a fun one.

Wow this is insane. There are quite a few local business Twitters saying they're having Internet trouble too. Is it even possible to sue these clowns? Or are they not responsible for what happens when they hit their peers? Are they even legally obligated to provide a service without Net Neutrality? I'm not even sure what suing them would accomplish since they're the only cable provider in the area.

All this week our Internet has been useless. You might successfully connect to a web page maybe once every ten minutes. Their support line is garbage. All they do is tell me to reboot our cable modem. I already tried that. It's not the modem. I can fire up WinMTR and see that it's working fine but their peer connections are dropping all our packets, because actually fixing their shit might cut into profits or something. Support is clueless so I have to explain packet loss to them like a five year old, then they put me on hold for 20 minutes while they talk to someone else all for them to tell me they're working on it. It's been like this for THREE days now, fuck's sake.

Meanwhile I might as well bring a novel to work because we can't connect to source control.

I'm getting like this too. I only have a few games I play anymore and it's probably because they're sort of social games. Whenever I try something else they just don't hold my interest. I stopped playing franchises I enjoyed like Mario Kart and Smash because I just played them to death.
